Justin Slingsby Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 Hey guys just thought I would give you a heads up on our car show this year Labor Day weekend. We only let in old school hot rods and customs and bikes but I have a soft spot for stock MoPars... Great bands, Good food, Bowling, and bands! stop on out and say hi. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 24, 2010 Report Posted August 24, 2010 I see they're having some interesting bands........... Quote
Justin Slingsby Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 Interesting indeed.... Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 I like your rules...sounds like real world cars. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Except neither of mine would count. Quote
Justin Slingsby Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 Cuz you have digital dashes and Mickey Thompsons out back? Quote
Justin Slingsby Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 Here is the site of the show. There are some pics on it. We get a real good turn out and with limited parking we focus on quality over quantity. http://minneapolismessaround.com/ Quote
Captain Neon Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 I appreciate the sentiment expressed in your flyer. I get tired of going to shows where all I see are Mustangs, Chevelles, and tuners. I just don't know how well my nerdy teenager's Grandma's car would fit in at a Rockabilly gathering. I live too far north for the rum runner reunion car shows. I enjoy road tripping the best! For me, nothing more enjoyable than chatting with some one that appreciates seeing my car going down the road while I fill up with gas or stop for a bite to eat. My car ain't loud, and it ain't fast, but it's special to me. Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Cuz you have digital dashes and Mickey Thompsons out back? Because they are stock, not a custom or a hotrod...like 90 percent of the cars on this forum. Quote
james curl Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Even cars like mine with the disc brakes on the front, dual carburetors and split exhaust manifold. I also have a modern rear end under mine. My engine is bored .040 over with a mild cam regrind and .100 off of the head and still would not be called an old school hot rod by their standards. Quote
Justin Slingsby Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 I am sorry I think you guys are missing the point. I posted this as an invite to P15 D24 members should they feel inclined to stop by the show. Aside from lowering, dual carbs, and exhaust and some other minimal modifications my Plymouth is stock. We welcome stock! This is far from a Rockabilly gathering. Please don't insult our show without having ever gone. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Gotcha. With the way the brochure is worded it doesn't sound like stock cars would be included. If I'm not out of town for labor day weekend I'll try to swing over. Quote
Captain Neon Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 This is far from a Rockabilly gathering. Please don't insult our show without having ever gone. I actually didn't think I was insulting your show when I called it Rockabilly. The pre-show party is sponsored by Twin Cities Rockabilly, and the bands are Rockabilly. I didn't realise it was a cuss word. Quote

And I won't be insulted if I have to park in the street. Quote
T120 Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) Hey Justin,I checked out the link, http://minneapolismessaround.com/ If I was closer,I'd check it out .Looks like a good weekend. Edited August 26, 2010 by Ralph D25cpe Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 Heck, I drive my convertible out to see the cars in town for the HAMB drags........many hotrods and kustoms there........and it gets kind words even though basically stock. Car guys usually appreciate various styles of vehicles. Quote
Robin (UK) Posted August 26, 2010 Report Posted August 26, 2010 I see they're having some interesting bands........... Nick Curran is a jump blues and rockabilly guitar god! Seriously, if any of you guys enjoy hard vintage-style rockin' music, get yourself along to see him. He is amazing. He played our Rhythm Riot festival in the UK a couple of years ago. It was one of the best shows we've seen in 14 years. Check out his music at http://www.myspace.com/curranrock His treatment of Tommy Brown's 'Women and Cadillacs' is brilliant. Quote

The pre-show party is sponsored by Twin Cities Rockabilly, and the bands are Rockabilly. I didn't realise it was a cuss word. I am sorry if I came off defensive. Usually when someone calls the show "Rockabilly" they mean it in a derogatory fashion. Meaning to call us scenesters who don't have a clue about cars. That is not true. Twin Cities Rockabilly helps us promote our show Saturday night. A majority of the bands we have are punk and garage. We are very lucky this year to have Nick Curran and Electric Frankenstein. Just as Robin (UK) stated, Nick does a killer job with his music. He is almost like a white Little Richard! Check out that link, "Women and Cadillacs" smokes! Electric Frankenstein in their 20 years of existence as a punk band has never played in Minnesota. We are the first to get them here. Quote
greg g Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 LOOK!!! Here's the deal! I can not stress this enough. If and when an opportunity is presented, via what ever venue is suggested, to meet up with other members of this forum, GO!! If it cars, music, or the local potato salad festival, GO, meet others, take this community out of cyberspace, and into the realm of actual face time. I can assure you a 99.9% favorable retrun on the time invested. Of all the folks I have met who are participants of this forum, there has been no one that hasn't been an interesting, engaging and freindly person, whom I wold gladely see again. While this may sound like an internet dating kid of thing, it not, more like a family reunion with cousins who are really worth meeting, regardless of the circumstances. So whether you like rockabilly, jazz, rock or punk, stock or modified, potato salad with or without onions, paper towels or napkins, get off your chair and out of your garage and go and spend an hour or two. You might actually make some new real friends. What have you got to loose?? Quote

Niel Hoback Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 I strongly agree. Meeting other forum members is more like meeting a friend than an internet date. When I met Greg this spring, it was as if I had already met him somewere else. Now when I read his posts, I can just about hear him, so get out there and put some life in yor forum experience. Quote
