48Dodger Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 (edited) Heading to Los Angeles, Ca to get a 48 Panel Truck I won on ebay. The plan is to have it someday tow my 50 B2B to bonneville. I'm driving alone through the night 8-9 hours to get to the town of Hemet by 7:00am.....Since I'm going it alone, I thought I drag you guys into it so I don't feel sorry for myself. lol. I'll be stopping by Hank B3B's nieghborhood to see his awesome truck...oh...and him too. I also plan on seeing a friend of mine who I only know through email and phone calls, Yvonne Mecialis. She is a well known aibrush artist. So it should be a fun ride, and hope I have a chance to enjoy the scenery....pictures to follow. 48D these are the ebay pictures...... knuckleharley Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Road trips are always fun,and it would be hard to think of one that would be more fun that going to get a panel truck. Quote
buds truck Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Cripes Tim, I was salivating over that panel when it was on Ebay! If only it would have been closer, it might have been mine instead. I hope the trip is a good one. I am over in eastern Washington with my 32 year old son fishing for the week. What a great bonding time we are having. Bud Quote
jakenoklahoma Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 cool, and well worth a road trip. She'll make a perfect Bonnie support vehicle. I love those panels: there was a running one in dallas not long ago for $750.00 obo that I missed seeing (and maybe buying) by a few days. Hopefully, whomever got it will find this place...it is great Quote
48Dodger Posted May 4, 2010 Author Report Posted May 4, 2010 Wow...what an amazing trip. It took me 8 hours to reach Hemet. I started out 10:00pm under the cover of darkness and took a nice quiet ride down Interstate 5. The sunrise was beauitful on the desert mountians, not to mention crusing though Los Angeles at 3:00am without traffic. I parked my truck and trailer on a country road in the nieghborhood of where I would pick up the Panel truck. I took a half hour nap...... 6:30am I'm talking with the owner of the Panel, David. He's a soon to be retired Police Officer and a real good guy. He made me breakfast and let me sit in his squad car...a 2005 Dodge Durango. Very cool. It took us about 2 hours to load the Panel. It had both axles removed, but the springs were still attached. With his forklift, me backing the trailer under it, the winch, and my floor jack, we managed to work the Panel onto the trailer! David gave me a couple drinks for the road and a "keep in touch, can't wait to see what it looks like when you're done"....... Heading west towards Long Beach area, it's about 10:30am. I'm exciting about meeting Yvonne for the first time. She and I have been good internet friends for sometime now and have never had a chance to meet. She’s a long time professionial airbrush artist in the Hot Rod world. The 91 freeway was a nightmare, and towing the Panel through the surface streets was testing my skills to say the least. I finally met up with Yvonne around 2:00pm. She was so cool, it made the whole traffic thing worth it. She and I talked a bunched, checked out the truck and taked about bonneville. Our friendship is confirmed, lol...... Next I headed down the street to meet Hank. I showed up to find him working on his awesome truck, tryin to button up his steering project. He and his wife are really great people and I look forward to seeing them again. Hank talked me into stopping by a local hamburger joint for a weekly car show. Sooooo......I put the truck and trailer in a car show, had a burger, kicked back and had a few laughs. Had me a time, I did. 8:30pm I hit the road home. By 2:00am I was to tired to drive so I slept at a truck stop for a few hours. I finally arrived home at 7:30am. The real adventure starts with 48 Panel very soon. Thanks to David and his dogs, Yvonne and her shop, and Hank and his wife for one of the more memorable trips I had in a long time. 48D:D Quote
Bob_Koch Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 When I first started my project I thought it was about the trucks. I'm learning it's as much about the adventures and the people you meet. Sounds like you did well on both accounts. Glad you're having a good time. Quote
BulldogTom Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 More pictures of Yvonne, less of you, less cops, less rust. Tom Lodi, CA Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Tim; Sounds and looks like you had a fun trip. I am a bit surprised that someone as beautiful as Yvonne let you stand next to her and even more surprised that she let a picture be taken with you and her together:D:D:D:D If she is coming to next years BBQ I will be there a week in advance to make sure I get a front row place to park:cool: Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) Isn't it Tim? Hank:) Edited May 4, 2010 by HanksB3B Quote

Flatie46 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 All that fun and you got a solid lookin' pannel. Good luck with the project. Quote
48Dodger Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 Hehe...guess chicks just dig guys with thier old trucks, Don. She sez she just might have to to make next years BBQ....well...her eyes said that anyway. lol:rolleyes: Yes siree Bob....its always the adventure, isn't it! It's a wonderful disease I got, Jake...it's a gosh darn Mopar Ranch over here. You said it Flatie! I got other things ahead of this truck, but I keep dreamin about what I wanna do with it. Hank...your great guy, glad to call you friend. Speaking of friends, Tom, this is the only other picture I took of Yvonne....note the Rat Fink she is working on for a custom motorcycle tank..... And lastly, the axles were put on to move it off the trailer to give me a better look, so I could pull the body off the frame. I'll start another thread about that later....... 48D Quote
jakenoklahoma Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 I am digging your method of body removal...my neighbor has one of those, maybe I can borrow it to yank my cab.... Quote
48Dodger Posted March 1, 2018 Author Report Posted March 1, 2018 I just started working on my Panel again.......dang.....hard to believe this post was almost 8 years ago. I was single back then and choose the road quite often. Now I feel a bit more relaxed.....stayin' home with the wife and dogs. Old Dodge trucks are still the norm, but getting to places by plane is sounding better and better. Maybe I can weld some wings on my 50 Truck and have the best of both worlds........ 48D 2 Quote
Desotodav Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 I will watch this build with great interest Tim... but I'd still be happier if you'd just load that panel truck into a shipping container and send it to me here in Oz! 1 Quote
pflaming Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 So we knew you got the panel, but we didn't know about Yvonne! LOL Quote
FlashBuddy Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 I was checking out Yvonne's website. Some amazing work there. After seeing your photographs and Her gallery I think there is a resemblance. You should buy and frame one for your memoirs. 1 Quote
