Interesting - a p15 wagon with fluid drive (?)

At least that's what the middle-man seller seems to be saying in his

ebay ad. I think maybe it's another case of an unknowing dealer.

A quote from the ad: "That fluid-drive transmission that Chrysler introduced was pretty

special, and once you get the hang of driving it, it’s really easy to use."

Super nice vehicle.

"Complete restoratio using all NOS parts"

Why do the door handles sag? What is wrong with the carburetor air cleaner?

Don....the door handles must be some of the "survivor" parts not replaced.

The air cleaner....I would say the inner portion is sitting a little high.

Wonder if they stuck a thin paper filter under it....just guessing.

The wipers are parked in the wrong position as well.

Red rings painted on the hubcaps.

Picky, picky.:D

PICNK SNICKY...this is exactly what you invite when you say it is restored...if it is not letter imperfect...(as the factory did have some imperfections)...it is NOT restored..I personally have seen only a handful of cars meeting this criteria..

ordinary..the red switch on the left side of the dash is reserved for reverse light....but as this puppy does not have such device attached to the rear..it could very well be for anything...

with the advertised fluid drive...in a Plymouth no less....I would also have to inquire of the engine number

Looking at the engine shot you can see the cross member still looks pretty close to the engine so I'm going to say the fluid drive is a mistake. Also what happened to the heater? Looks like it had a hotwater heater of some sort and the holes in the firewall are plugged with plastic inserts.

Though not particulary well described, that is a very nice car. Sagging door handles are an annoyance which are easily fixed. I did a post on that some time ago so if your handles sag, do a search.

Do they need heat in california? Nice wagon, don't think I'd want it.

I'm sure they probably don't need it however if you are deleting it the holes should be filled not plugged. Also it has a southwind gas heater.

Nice car, sure is alot of money though. I bet one of those rear bumpers would be hard to find.

It seems as if the person writing the ad doesn't know these Plymouths

very well, or somehow got his wires crossed while doing the ad.

Don't know which.

I post these little gems from time to time just to show that some

sellers don't appear to know what they're selling. And they probably

would tell you what they think they know -as the gospel truth.

To me, "totally restored" would, among other things, mean the door

handles wouldn't be sagging. But....a nice car nonetheless.

As I understand the term, a "survivor" is an unrestored vehicle. Once restored, it can no longer be called a "survivor". It is no longer an authoritative example of how the car came out of the factory, no longer a reliable standard for other authentic restorations.

I was just looking at the pictures again, and one of the inside shots shows a bit of the heater under the dash (pic # 37). Also, one of the engine bay shots (pic # 54) shows what appears to be the connections for the heater, but no hoses going to it. (Or maybe that's something else? It is in the middle of the firewall, not on the right side where the hose connections would normally come through.)

If it was a fluid drive, wouldn't there be some wiring going to the carb and a relay on the sidewall? Or is that just for an M-6 fluid drive.

Only if it were used with an M5 or M6 semi-auto trans. The fluid drive is only a coupler, they were used with Ddoges, anda regular 3 spd trans,as well with the lower Chrysler lines too.

Witha 3 spd and fluid drive, you had the advantage of using no clutch if you lik around town, could keep it in 2nd or 3rd gear and drive around like that.

At stop lights, simply put you foot on brake and then drive away without going through shifts.

In Canada the Chrysler Royals, had a 3 spd trans with a fluid drive coupler, not to be confused with a semi auto M5.

Ed is right, that bell housng in the engine pic is way to short to be a fluid drive attached......Fred

There is apparently some type of heater....may not be Mopar item.

You can also see a defroster hose in this pic.

But any lines to it may be plugged.

And--there are no heater control knobs in the unit below the dash.....only the ignition and a lighter.

Bob thats a southwind heater. No lines to it because its a gasoline heater not hot water.
