teardrop puller Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 We had a sunny day today in Tecolutla Veracruz, Mexico kai Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 Sun has been shining some (finally) in Joplin......has melted a fair amount of ice from the big storm. Still some left on yards and roads. Was in the mid 60s yesterday, but only high 30s today. Quote
anthonyb Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 We had to suffer with a sunny 78 degrees today. Quote
wldavis3 Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Wow, Anthony -- how did y'all ever make it through the day!!! I bet there were people laid out all over the place from all that comfort! It was sunny and about 50 degrees here today. Not bad, overall. Quote

If you come up this way you wouldn't have to suffer in that 78 degree stuff. Think our high for the day was a balmy 12 to 15 degrees and lots of sunshine. Nice day to go to the beach on Lake Michigan. Tonight we won't suffer with too much heat either. Supposed to go down to around 0 degrees. Now, if you miss us this week and come next week, bring your shorts. Supposed to be in the balmy 20's next week for high temperatures. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 We did make it back above 0 today. Over the weekend the highs weren't above 0. Sat and Sun when I was going to work it was about -40 with the wind! Quote

These people with the 50's and 70's just don't know what they are missing. Quote
greg g Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 click the link for some unedited video of the affected areas by one of our local news crews. Please note that even after 4 or more feet of snow, the roads are open, the mail is getting through, stores are open, and other than the white stuff, life is pretty much normal. They expect the stuff to last for a couple more days. http://www.9wsyr.com/mediacenter/local.aspx?videoid=179601 video loads up pretty fast, must be on the stations server. Quote

greg g Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Between 1:30 this afternoon and 8;30PM, 27 inches of additional snow fell. ( about 3 inches per hour) Overnight forcast is 18 to 30 inches, and and additional 8 to 12 during the day tomorrow. This is all taking place about 35 miles north of me, here today we got about a half inch, a dusting last night, and an inch and a half yesterday. As luck has it, the winds that make up the storm and steer it, have stayed to the north. Good for us, bad for them. If you look at a map of our area, were are bisected north and south by I 81, and east and west by I 90 (NY Thruway) most forscast of these lake effect events will usually include the phrase "north of the Thruway" or "north of 90, like the road is some sort of a barrier. Funny as it may seem this is most often the case true. I recall a trip north on I 81 a few years back where we passed under an over pass carrying an east west road, and on the far side of the bridge it was as if someone had pulled a curtain of falling and blowing snow across hanging from the far truss of the bridge. It can literally be bright and sunny and in 50 feet be full whiteout conditions. So why do we live here???? Don't know any better.......... Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Greg, I can believe what you say about I 90 being like a wall on one side with the temperature changes, etc. The boarder line for me is about 6 blocks west of where I live. Sometimes you can feel the temperature rise or drop crossing that street. It's really noticeable in the spring and fall of the year. At my house it can be cool enough to wear a winter jacket or spring jacket. Cross that boarder 6 blocks away from me and it's so warm you have to remove the coat or jacket. The reason it's that way is when the wind is blowing in off the lake. The lake effect winds off Lake Michigan seem to stop at that street 6 blocks west of me. You could see a temperature difference of 10 to 15 degrees just crossing that street sometime in spring, summer and fall. However, in the winter it keeps us a little warmer sometimes too when the winds come in off the lake. Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 I am 5 miles South of Interstate 40 and we have the weather differential North of the route. I also notice the similar but smaller effect when especially at sunset when I walk 30 feet down from house to the front pasture. I think the most snow I saw fall was 56 inches in 48 hours in North Syracuse. Frozen Frank Quote
47heaven Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 There's always snow in Mexico...just not quite the type that falls from the sky on a cold, winter day. Quote
1just4don Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Mexico had 6' now and expected a measely 24" more in the next day!!! I can relate to the wall thing. I drove for a year 45 miles one way and had to be there at 5:30 in the morning. There was a bridge half way there where it was like drawing a 'line' across the sand. The winter weather was ALWAYS different on one sidde of that line than the other. I still think of that every time I drive across that line. It was a bridge railing,,,a tiny mostly dry creek but it was ALWAYS different in winter and sometimes in summer, rains obeyed the line too. I have another line 1 1/2 miles south of where I live now, right across the highway. If its nice south,,,its for crap north of it. IF there is ice storms around it hit north of the line,,,rarely on the south of it!! Always a difference in snow amounts, north and south!! Always drier when summer rains are NEEDED too, norht of there. Five miles down the road they get twice the rain we get HERE!! Funny how those "lines" are and how they work and so consistant!! Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Will never forget my move from Fresno to Tennessee. Popped in a yank of chewing gum two miles after leaving the old house. Broke a tooth on the third chomp. Spit out the tooth and kept driving in the 70+ degree weather with the wife, dog, cat and me wearing shorts Had an uneventful trip until we hit the Arizona-New Mexico line. Suddenly we were in a blizzard. Drove another 50 or so miles and could no longer see. Pulled off at the first town we could find and looked for a motel. Found one and got the only room left on the 2nd floor. The only place to park was in the middle of a semi frozen lake in the motel parking lot. Course I wearing sandals. Waded through the below freezing lake 4 times to get the animals and necessary stuff to the room. Quote
John Mulders Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 The Netherlands was 'hit' with snow yesterday. Total chaos in the country with a record high 3" (yes 3 inch) of snow.... Moehaa Train schedule was halved, snow warnings were given etc etc. Not used to snow anymore ..... John Quote
