Tuff-Iron Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Hi everyone I just became the proud owner of a "49" Special Deluxe, after looking for several months and a lot of wasted trips this old gal showed up on Craigslist just 65 miles away. After making a deal we began the drive home but a leaking freeze plug put an end to that drive. I live in Lake Havasu Arizona so Rt.66 will be a perfect place to cruise in an old Plymouth. Here is some pics let me know what you think:cool: Quote
Rollie Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Welcome and that's a sweet looking '49 you've got, congrats. Quote

greg g Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) Your soft plug can be replaced with a temporary ie to allow you to drive the car till it convenient to do the repair. these are like the old thermos bottle top or the transom plug on an out board boat. As you tighten the bolt it squeezes the rubber against the block to seal the hole. Available at NAPA and others. Welcome, enjoy your new old ride. Edited October 10, 2009 by greg g Quote
Tuff-Iron Posted October 10, 2009 Author Report Posted October 10, 2009 Thanks for the tip on the expandable plug I do have a spare one in the trunk for future use. I have already found the right size welsh plug and the car is back on the road . Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Did you dig around on the inside of the block when the plug was out to see if you had a bunch of crud laying in the bottom of the block like this ? Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Wonderful car, is that Flanagreen? Seriously, that is one nice auto, I like the historical tag as well! Quote

mackster Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 you sure found a great place here in the forum, and your car looks great! We use to have what we called dollar plugs in my plumbing years, like the type that Tim described. they will help you make the last leg of your journey home, if you havent towed it home yet. (I kinda have a feeling you prob. did) Quote
Johnny S Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Just found this Oct 2009 post for your then new car ..... looks really nice. I have one that is Kitchener Green as well. Did the previous owner provide any information on the paint formula? I have a Kitchener Green '49 as well and it's in need of some fresh paint for sure. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 That makes three of us with a green 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe, you, me, and Johnny S. I altered the color of mine. You can do a search and see it in previous posts. The guys who mixed it call it "bastard green." It has also been called "Flanagreen." Very clean car. Welcome to the forum. It was nice to see your pictures because I can get an idea of what mine will look like once it's all assembled. Quote
kfxinsd007 Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Welcome aboard - old cars are fun Quote
Greenbomb Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Tuff-Iron: Is the dark part of your dash the wood grain effect or is it just painted. It looks really good. My '50 dash needs a re-do and that's just the color I want to paint it. Any idea what the color is called? Thanks, Flo Quote
