Ward Duffield Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Hi Who can bore holes in glass tail light lenses fro Blue Dot installation?? Ward NY Quote
aero3113 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I was told that Dremmel has some bits that can cut glass. Maybe you can do it yourself ? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 internet has a few sites for the do-it-yourself for methods that work at home..don't expect it to be done in a minute or two..some glass cutting shops have the diamond bore bits and could possibily do it for you.. Quote
Ward Duffield Posted September 25, 2009 Author Report Posted September 25, 2009 McMaster carr has the bits, but at the price, I would have to go into business for it to make sense Thanks Quote
martybose Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 HiWho can bore holes in glass tail light lenses fro Blue Dot installation?? Ward NY Maybe if you gave us a clue of what car you're working on, you might get a better answer. Marty Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) No clue in his profile....no info entered as to what car he has. My guess would be it's a Chrysler product. I once drilled holes in a 1951 Ford plastic lense to add blue dots. That was pretty easy. On one of these ol Mopars, I'd say not so easy. Probably easier to buy a set, if available. I'm going to take the blue dot lenses off my Plym and go back to original lenses. The originals should make the light brighter for turn and stop signals.....easier to see. However, gonna keep them just in case I decide to use them later. Edited September 25, 2009 by BobT-47P15 Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Usually, I'm not quite scientific enough to be able to find the good stuff. Quote
Frank Elder Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 I was borrrrred, you weren't:) Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Nonetheless, it would be nice if people would either list their year and make of car in the upper right info on posts, or in their signature space at the bottom. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 a profile it does go a long way in getting a correct answer...it only takes a minute to list your car and general area, I know a lot of people care not to get very "defined" on an open forum..if you don't care to list your name for fear somone may find you in the phone book or 411..just say south esat, central etc etc.. Captain Neon Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 I'm really not too concerned if any one came to Trenton to see me. Just don't be upset if I'm at the plant or if I take a while to answer the door because I was sleeping. Leave me a note, go in the garage, check out my car, grab yourself a soda out of the fridge, and I'll be around eventually. Quote
T120 Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 ..Sounds great,Benjamin -Trenton,MO sounds like a welcoming place to visit. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 as for invites..its an open invitation to my place in Elko, Ga this 31st of October...mark your calanders...I know I am way out of a hub so to speak..but hey..its quite here in the country.. Quote
radioguy7 Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Might want to find out if Blue dots are legal in your state first before going and ruining a set of tail light lenses? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 (edited) it appears New York is (edited ) NOT a blue dot state http://www.semasan.com/images/pdf/newyork.pdf this did not get out of commitee part four threw me.. has been re-introduced as A.B. 2429: http://www.semasan.com/main/main.aspx?id=61687 Edited September 30, 2009 by Tim Adams Quote
David Maxwell Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 ...it just so happens that the standard blue dot fits perfectly into the reflector hole in the tail light bezels. You can rig a wire and bulb behind it and the efect is cool, though not exactly like the purple glow you get from a blue dot mounted on the ruby red glass. Just a thought for anyone considering avoiding the long arm of the law. it appears New York is a blue dot statehttp://www.semasan.com/images/pdf/newyork.pdf Quote
greg g Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 as far as I know that never made it out of the committee and has not been acted upon. Quote
mikemaker Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 Like David said. I did exactly that about 10 years back on the beater, cheers Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 (edited) as far as I know that never made it out of the committee and has not been acted upon. Greg..the site I visted was misleading..it appers that NY IS NOT YET allowing them..however I found on other sites that they seem not to be bothering motorcycles with the blue dots and others have reprted that the antique cars are not harassed but everything is subject to where you live...no good..the original bill did die it seems but has been re-introduced under a new bill number...A.B. 2429 now is the time for the hobbiest/collector etc to flood their representatives mailbox asking support for the bill SEMA is pretty much a clearing house for all pending and resolved issues of the hobby and I failed to check that site prior to my posting..so to prevent anyone just from popping in and seeing the single post out of context I am going to exit my previous remark... knighthawk Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 If you want to drill hole in glass (any glass) go to some one who does ' stained glass' ( as I do that also ) , most glass guys have a grinder smoothen and form the edges, one 1/4 '' grinder bit can also be used to 'grind ' a hole in the glass.
