Merle Coggins Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 I just got this in an email and I just HAD to share it with you guys. What's that...? You don't have a big pickup to tow your 6,000 lb. gooseneck trailer....fear not!!! A little careful, well thought out engineering can solve your problem... Class lll Hitch Install... (patent pending..) Wouldn't you love to see how the trip went...? Good chance he ended up doin' some unintended off roadin' somewhere. Check the 'hills' in the background. Howja like to meet this rig on a two-lane road...coming down the mountain in your direction...? She's hitched up and r eady to roll!! Amazin' how the extra weight smoothes out the ride. Needed to air up the rear tires a bit ('bout 160 psi). Added some super heavy-duty chain for extra support on the tailgate, (note the 'Heavy-Duty 'S' hooks to attach the chain) Also paid-up for some BIG Number 5/16 sheet metal screws to attach the Reese hitch frame to the tailgate (see 'em there? one on each side...) Likely two more through the carpet into the floor pan inside... Yep, probably overkill, but didn't want the possibility of having an axerdent. Most of the time was spent on the front porch whittling down that MASSIVE solid pine 4x4 to fit precisely down into the hole in the ball mount receiver. Note also - The 14'x14' piece of 3/8' plywood on the underside of the tailgate to distribute the load more evenly and beef up that tailgate support. 'A MAN CAN'T BE TOO SAFE'...!! They are out there, folks... and they vote... Quote
4852dodge Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 It's scary what some pepole try to get away with. Last summer I got stuck behind a three engine sport boat on a triple axle trailer on the interstate. They were down to 40 mph on a slight grade. I could not see the tow vehicle until I passed it. It was an Explorer sport (like above picture in size) towing this 30 ft plus boat using a ball hitch. We laughed as we passed because the driver was banging on the steering wheel trying to make it go faster. Quote
buds truck Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 I don't think I have ever seen anything so stupid in my life..... why everyone knows you have to throw a small block chev motor on the hood to help with that weight distribution....... DUH Quote
John-T-53 Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 This level of ingenuity is the type that's currently running our country. Running it into the ground that is. Quote
carl b51 Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Well I think I am going to stay out of UTAH , OW YAA Carl Quote
48Dodger Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Wow. Wish I had thought of the 4x4 trick.....I guess I'll just have to except that some people are smarter than me. Hope he remembered to drink a few beers to relax before his long trip. not.......! 48D Quote
Willis Pingel Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 What kind of car is that, I gotta get me one. Bill Quote
Allen I. Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 I'm thinking that there is a good chance you can get that very vehicle ... cheap. Quote
greg g Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Did you notice he had about 2 inches of sterring clearence before he crushes the reawindow and pillars. I don't even want to think about the forces braking is goig to put on the tailgate...... Good part is if it's the 2.8 liter V6 in the blazer, it will probably only go about 300 yards before it coughs its last. Steering ought to be real light though. Quote
MBF Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Evolution at work! Mother nature is weeding out the slow ones-just hope he doesn't take some innocent folks with him on his way out. I saw a rig like that come apart on the Mass Pike a few years ago-made a mess for a half mile. Quote
woodscavenger Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 I'll be watching for his name on the Darwin awards list. We can only hope that we or anyone we love is anywhere within 10mile of that thing when it goes like we all know it will. I'm hoping they just needed to move it 10 feet or something...... Quote
PatS.... Posted May 21, 2009 Report Posted May 21, 2009 Is an old pick me up truck unavailable??? Not firing on all brain cells there. Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 I don't see what you guys are worried about. He's got a auxiliary length of dog chain ( chihuahua rated ) attached to each outside corner of the tail gate with an "S" hook. Honey....where'd I leave that vakah bottle? Quote

If you want to build your own assembly I now have available some well worn dog chain (Mick Jagger was a 120 # very healthy dog and dahm near wore the chain out) with new "S" hooks that I will sell reasonably before I "bay" them:cool: Quote
