I love those old radios. I have a working one in the house but there are no AM golden oldies or easy listening stations near hear. Lots of country but I don't like it. The radio belonged to my in-laws.

Tim,

That radio looks similar to the one in my bedroom waiting for some TLC. That one in the ad is probably not a Philco. There are two areas to look at: 1. tubes and 2. the electrolytic capacitors. Let me know when you get one and I can help you get it going. I also have a tube tester.

Tim,

That looks like it would clean up nice. Depending on the price and if you like the old radios, I'd say go for it. It only cost me about $200 or $250 to get the guts working again at the local shop. Then a lot of elbow grease to get it looking like new again. Plays as good as it looks.

That said, it is only AM though, unless you want to listen to shortwave etc. So.......even though ours now plays real nice, we rarely turn it on. But.....it's a nice antique sitting in the room.:)

Was going to post the picture again, but can't find it. Must be on a CD or a floppy.

Found it on my website. Easier than finding the right CD or floppy.:)

Now come on,really.......how ya gonna get that in the dash????

it not getting it in the dash...that is simple..it is the long extension cord..even if I just go to the end of the driveway and back..

actually thinking about it..the bigbutt Dodge Business coupe (D19, 1941 model) these two products were most likely made in the same time frame..and the business coupe has more than ample room for install...nah...still a cord issue...

Don..what I really wanted to find but have not been lucky enough is the 1938 Zenith..the ones on E-bay are way off my scale for the random time I would use it..I like the standing models mainly because of their distinct style and in this rustic old farmhouse I have, they blend right in the decor..sets of that era are some of the better furniture you can find that sets the mood of the room.

The one I pictured is a Philco 41-280 and is amazing at the age the original finish on the set..the knobs and all are original....I think I got a fair deal on the unit as this is the first one Ihave seen in the area and I have been searching for years...

this is not the model I am looking for but if you notice...the cabinet on this one is original and in exceptional condition...knobs are intact and everything...

Tim, you have great taste, I love old radio's to. I have a Philco 1941 and a stewart/warner 1938 I remember working for an old lady and after a days work she gave me a fantastic radio 1939 or 40 zenith. My mom made me give it back:mad: I have 4 radios now however one is on loan:o I am to shame to ask for it back, they have family pictures on it now. These radio's you all are showing are really nice, the finish is nice. Did you guy's notice that they did not make any radio's during the war just like our cars.

Have you seen this guy's site? It is fabulous with photos of old radios.

That is a cool site and those radios were not only radios but a nice piece of furniture. Same with the older TV's, they came in nice wooden cases and looked really nice. Now you just get a flat screen. Everything changes but sometimes I wonder if we are ahead.

Curtis Mathis..this was the first major company that had their components listed as propriotory....Magnavox followed suit and did the same thing..pretty sure most are now but was frustrating years ago before throw away electronics..
