OT Interesting Observation

I was just looking through the Members List (I like looking at the pics) and I noticed a lot of members with 0 posts. Of the 501 members I counted 200 with 0 posts. OK, some may be new members that haven't contributed anything yet, and that's OK. But some have been there a long time, and some even have some nice photos shown, but still no posts. I just thought it was odd.

I also noticed that BobT has reached a new level. He is now a "Guru" at 500 posts. Congrats BobT. :)

That's weird, I was doing that last night also looking at pics and made the same observation. But being a noob here, I figured it was SOP.

What they did on a different board I'm on to clean up is posted a sticky message that any user ID with 0 posts and no logins for 6 months would be eliminated.

Welll.......I wonder what other designations lie down the road.

Guess that probably means I spend too much time on this forum.....but hey, what better place could you be???

I have learned in the last two or three years a ton of stuff about the old Plymouth that I never knew or thought about.....since, in addition to Guru, I also hold the title of "World's Worst Mechanic".

I also had noticed the same about names with no post....some of those names go back a long way. Guess they no longer have time or inclination to participate. Perhaps a purging of the list might be in order.

And, in conclusion, may the 'Old MoPar Force Be With You'. :) :) :)

I joined this "New & Improved" forum in October, like many of you folks I visited the old site. I think I am showing maybe about 9 posts. There is a vast amount of info here, and also among the member's posts here too. As for the observation about the members with no posts, here is my $.02 worth: I visit this site almost every time that I get on our computer, maybe 4 times or more per week. But I don't log in probably less than half the time that I visit here. So possibly those folks showing "0" posts are like myself, reading and learning and being amused too, but don't have anything that they feel is important enough to contribute. More than once I have visited here with a question in mind, and found an answer already posted in a thread. I am very comfortable here, compared to some of the arrogant & elitist attitudes I have observed at some other forums. This is currently the only forum I am signed up at, in the past at one of my former email adresses I received nasty emails a few times from other forums (never from here!), just because my car was: too old and stock; not show quality; I live on the Eastern side of the USA; my questions were a waste of their time and bandwith, etc. Since I discovered this site in 2003 thru a link on Bill Ward's Old Plymouths website, I have learned more than I can retain in my brain, and had more than a few laughs too! One more thing- my wife gave me a digital camera for Christmas, so now I don't feel inadequate anymore! =Jeff=

I would not get real excited about such stuff.....Even if you don't have anything all so important to say, you might occasionally jump in with a comment on something. Signing up and/or logging in is not that tough.

I suppose the lurkers are learning something of interest to themselves along the way. If you are listed in the members list, why not at least acknowledge that you are still around....we don't know what their current status is.

Jeff, I was thinking you used to send in some pics.....but if you need any assistance with the process, I would be happy to help. There are at least two methods to post a picture here......I use the one with the little yellow envelope with mountains on it at the top.....simply paste your URL line in the space provided. The pic comes up full size, rather than thumbnail. I like the PhotoBucket album on line as it will allow you to re-size your photos to fit conveniently on here.....like this.

Merle, I belong to a small 40s Canadian Mopar website, out of the 29 members only about 3 to 4 contribute, and maybe another 3 drop a line occasionally, I am it's number 2 member, so I try and contribute to it weekly, just to keep it's pulse rate going, as well as a couple of others, including the mod Ed P...........Fred Ps this is more than an Old Car website forum, it's a brotherhood of fine gentlemen

I am of the opinion that lurking is fine as well...but with a twist. The twist is this....I do think that it would be useful if everyone who signs up posts at least an introduction ..... kinda the "howdy" for the group. Forums like this are a lot like a small coffee shop that my parents use to run on Thursdays in a little community in Iowa...without the shop and without the coffee. The regulars know the regulars and that's great. And, everyone is welcome to come in and have a cup of coffee, a cookie or piece of pie and sit for a while. Some talk up a storm, some talk a little and some never talk. Some provide information that you can take to the bank and some ..... well, you might want to ask the question of someone else before you get to the bank..... And that's all ok. But, the difference is that everyone introduces themselves up front. So, I guess by just having this thread we can encourage those who are members of the list (thanks to you all) but who haven't said "howdy" yet to change the "0" to a "1", tip your hat, tells us a little bit about yourself and then take a chair....and hang on.... you never know what you just might be able learn or more importantly to teach someone when the time is right.

I only get on the computer after 10pm est. Usually the thread questions have been answered earlier in the day. If I see where I can contribute I'll throw my 2 cents in. I'm on my second P-15 and have learned a little bit about them since I bought my first one in the 1990's.

I'm in the pacific time zone so I'm just getting online when a lot of the members are signing off for the night. Like now, it's midnight EST but only 9pm here. I sometimes visit the forum at work (shhhh, dont't tell) and I notice things really start to jump around 2 or 3 pm PST.

When I first got my P24, I searched for forums and found this one right away, but back then I sort of passed it by, thinking my car was too modern. Then later I realized that the scope was a lot wider than P15-D24 so I started to post. Best forum on the web.

I will attempt to post an image from photobucket that was taken with my new camera last weekend. BTW it does leak a little oil, but what you see in the pic is spillage from me putting oil in the cylinders for winter storage. I also cover the entire car with another 16'x20' tarp. I hope this shows up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v93/Jeff51/Jeffsnewcamera023-1.jpg

Jeff;

The criteria for posting pictures on this new forum is somewhat different than the old forum. In your Photobucket album there are 3 choices below the thumbnail picture. The bottom one is labeled "IMG Code". Photobucket is now setup so if you left click in the contents of the message box labeled IMG Code a box will pop up saying "copied". Next simply paste this IMG Code in the body of the message you are posting and the pasting will look something like this XXXXXXX

Your new camera works well.

Just a comment on lurking: I may be doing that for a while as my car is up for auction on the bay and I don't know what I'll get next! Since I'm an equal opportunity car nut there ain't no way to know. I've been looking fondly at Buicks, Nashes, Studebakers and Pontiacs but the next thing in the shop (assuming the Dodge sells) will be my Chebby pickup. Sooooo, I might be a lurker for a while. Ain't much to say here about any of my possible projects; at least not at this moment!!
