greg g Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Furylee, I don't think you will see the "exotic sights" you saw in Detroit. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I retired from working under the dash for a while. Made myself sick changing the amp gauge when I got back from Detroit. Someday I still need to install my radio though..... Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 Ooops, guess I missed the part about Visit Wisconsin's larges auto museum. I really didn't read the whole flyer, just scanned over it. Merle, I don't know of any other larger auto museum either in Wisconsin than the one in Hartford. If you go there, say hello to my father in laws 1917 Crow Elkhart (picture below). Ed, that's ok if you sight see at the mall. I was sightseeing at a craft fair Saturday that my wife went to. Merle, I was just about to say something about the bridge war but you beat me to it. By the way. There is also a DVD, or set of DVD's that can be purchased through the local PBS TV station Channel 10/36. It was on TV sometime earlier this year. Starts at the first settlement and takes you up to modern times. Was very interesting. Wayne, If I lived as close to the Back to the 50's show as you do, it would be a no brainer to make a decision as to which to attend. Back to the 50's would win out hands down. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I'm torn between the 2 shows but I've been to back to the 50s every year for about the last 15 and have had a car in the last 4-5. A change of pace will be nice I think. Back to the 50s is a great time though and I wish these two events were different weekends. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 where I am we don't even have two events a year much less a conflicting schedule.. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Tim time to finish a car and drive beyond your property. Heck this ones so close to Norm he may even show up for a day. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Let's see... the POC thing starts on Wednesday and runs through Sunday. The Back to the 50's starts on Friday - Sunday. So you come to Oconomowoc for Wed - Friday, then make the 5 hour drive up to the Twin Cities so that you're there for Saturday and Sunday. Where's the conflict? Quote
Young Ed Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Merle the main car show piece of the POC event is Saturday. I suppose you could take off sat and catch Sundays worth of back to the 50s but sunday winds down pretty early. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 Tim time to finish a car and drive beyond your property. Heck this ones so close to Norm he may even show up for a day. Ed, I wouldn't bet that I would show up at the POC meet, don't forget I'm not a member. You might just loose the bet. Will have to wait and see what else is going on that weekend. Regardless if I show up at the show or not, I would not pay to enter my coupe, but I might drive it out there and park outside the show. Even if I did that I would not spend a whole day there, just an hour or two tops. I agree with you. Tim should finish one of his cars so he can drive it further than from the yard to the garage or lean to. Mine does travel around some other than the driveway. But...........don't forget, Tim's yard is bigger than mine. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Norm I said you may. I certainly would not bet on you attending. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted September 10, 2008 Author Report Posted September 10, 2008 Ed, I would like to meet those from the forum if they attend the POC event. I'm just not into sitting at a show all day. Once I've seen the cars, and the swap meet area if there is one, I'm usually ready to leave. That goes for the POC meet, and any other car show. By the way, since you are looking for history on Juneau and Milwaukee, you may want to hit the Historical Museum in Milwaukee. Think it's on the corner of 3rd and Wells in downtown Milwaukee. Don't know the cost because for residents it's free on certain days, so when I go I just drop a few bucks in the donation box. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 If Norm shows up..then I will have to finish one of my cars...then like Norm says..would not hold my breath or place any bets..I serve no wine before its time.. I am moving pretty well on the wagon for now..just came if now for a short break and glass of ice water..it is still quite warm outside..got one fender acid etched and washed and then wiped to put up till primer day...one more to go..then hopefully a set of rear fenders get blasted on Thursday..even after two car shows..Ihave not been able to put my hot little hands on an AC unit...the books show general dimensions but nothing specific when it comes to ducts and hose inlet placement..I have to call my distributor this week and get something nailed down..I have already placed my registers in the dash..4 each... Oh and by the way..the 54 is licensed and insured and can go on the road anytime I want...just I never park one out of doors when in primer...of course it would be daylight travel only..light buckets are out of the car yet... Quote
Young Ed Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 Thanks Norm I will add that to my list of stuff to check into for the trip. Can't say I blame you about leaving once you've seen all the cars. After judging in detroit I spent an hour or so checking out the cars and BSing with the owners. Then I went on a quest to buy headlight fuses. After that it was time to get ready for the awards banquet. I attend a Friday night cruise here in St Paul and usually stay for about 3 hours some of which is spent in a lawn chair watching cars drive by. After that I'm done Quote
Captain Neon Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I'm just not into sitting at a show all day. Once I've seen the cars' date=' and the swap meet area if there is one, I'm usually ready to leave. That goes for the POC meet, and any other car show.[/quote']I feel the same way about car shows which is why I never enter them. After four summers doing parades every weekend, I got burned-out on that too. I prefer to take my P15 for a nice drive or to take the wife and friends/family for dinner. Almost ended up in that neck of the woods (Dairyland POC) in my job hunt, but got my first choice in Missouri instead. I've been moving cars from Colorado to Missouri since Friday afternoon. Two down and three to go. The Neon leaves Saturday. The Jeep leaves next Friday w/ a UHaul trailer in tow, and the wife's car is coming on a tow dolly behind the moving van the next weekend. We're even able to buy our own house. That was at least five years away here in Colorado. Quote

I would venture to say that my "lean-to" 3000 sq ft combined with the garage of 2500 sq ft might be as big as your yard...lol Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 Norm.. I would venture to say that my "lean-to" 3000 sq ft combined with the garage of 2500 sq ft might be as big as your yard...lol Tim, Wish my yard was that small. Would be less grass to cut and snow to clean up. But...........my yard does have your garage and lean to beat. It's about 12,000 sq. ft. all together. Now Tim, I'm going to call your hand. You said if I drove my coupe to the POC meet, you'd have to finish a car and drive it on the road. Well.............better get hopping and finish it. Still will not enter it in the show though. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Norm..to be honest with you I am working on my car as best time and weather will allow. Still hitting snags getting parts..the venders were not at the last two shows I attended..no joking..none..notta..zip...finding my window glass channel has proved to be impossible..Restoration Specialties let me down..got to see if I can make another size/style look half way presentable, they got to be 88 inches in length minimum. Can't get specifics on the AC unit so it appears I have to bite the bullet..pick what I think my be the best fit and make that sucker work..catalog list parts I want but no part number..how does one get what he needs? And to top it off..I can't even find an 1/8 inch 90 degree pipe nipple in brass in this area..yeah I can make something else work but it would not be the look I am going for..and as for grass to cut..I'm with you..I cut a tad over two acres and let me tell you..at times it is a real bother, especially when the rains set in and cutting when it finailly dries requires raking..last time we carried three trailer loads of clipping out of here..my yard trailer is 4 x 12..rails are 15 inches..that be a lot of hay... PS I did make the Charlotte POC meet last year in my Chrysler.. Quote
Furylee2 Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Furylee, I don't think you will see the "exotic sights" you saw in Detroit. No, I don’t expect that kind of photo session again. I think that was a once in a lifetime thing. Quote
claybill Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 milwaukee has the best contemporary art museum in the midwest!!!! a grand piece of architecture! also anyone travelling there via dubuque iowa, stop in for a refreshment or a stopover.... 3 hours away from meet. claybill Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 ..I can't even find an 1/8 inch 90 degree pipe nipple in brass in this area.... Tim; Are you talking a 90 degree elbow with 1/8" male pipe threads? I dont think such a fitting is normally available as it is non standard. Female to female is the standard. If female to female is what you need go to McMaster Carr. Order today and it will be delivered on Monday. Quote

Merle Coggins Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Tim, are you looking for one of these? If you have a Parker Store near you go in and ask for P/N 1204P-2. I found it in their Brass Fittings catalog and on their web site http://www.parker.com/portal/site/PARKER/menuitem.bb22d5a82bbb5b147cf26710237ad1ca/?vgnextoid=a2d9b5bbec622110VgnVCM10000032a71dacRCRD&vgnextfmt=EN&vgnextdiv=687547&vgnextcat=1204P+FORGED+MALE+ELBOW&vgnextpartno=1204P-2&vgnextcatid=10283 Good luck, Merle Quote

Tim, sounds like you may have a long wait. I know a Ford guy who's been working on a 30's Ford pickup for a long time (sometime in the 90's). Why is it not done? Because he's been looking for some kind of pipe that goes into headlight bucket. He want's that part to be just like original. We've all told him to just put a piece of pipe in there and forget it because it's hidden anyway. Like you, he wants what he wants, so he still doesn't have it. I've also heard people in hell want ice water, but they never get that either. So.........it may be time to compromise. You could just put a brass coating on the steel fitting to make it look like brass, then they would match. Quote
