John Burke Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Since being a member of this great forum,I have often been amused and sometimes curious of the names, masculine and feminine, that many of our members have bestowed upon thier cars....Are they products of our imaginations? Are they recolections of an old girl friend or a current wife?.....Perhaps they they embody some peculiar quirk or feature..I'd like to hear from some members where the names for thier cars came from. Actual or secret....I have it on good stead from a Penn. source that Don Coatny, after his lackluster showing in the great race, has secretely renamed his blue bomb "The Molassasmobile"...as for mine, after my recent paint job, I am naming it "Trots" because of the runs....hehe...just kidding but I would like to hear some of your stories.....John Burke Quote
greg g Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Well ours is Kate. As she reminds us of the speech/laugh of Katherine Hepburn in her more mature years, when her starter is cranking. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Greg, you know your going to He$$ for that one:D We call our Plymouth Caldonia:cool: Quote
NatesSedan Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Ours is Roxie. As in Plymouth Rox. Quote
greg g Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 What makes your big head so hard????? I have it on good authority that miss Hepburn liked Plymouths. We think it is a suitable tribute to both the car and the lady. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Greg, I like Mrs. Hepburn however I liked her when she was young( Philadelpia story) I hated when she and tracy got old. I guess people must age it's just hard to look at, I know you saw those before and after pic's of Don. Darn, it's not nice to fool with mother nature:eek: Quote
Allan Faust Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Mine's Eleanor..... only because I don't have the cash to buy a GT 500..... and I like the name.... Allan Quote
daddyo23 Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Mine is just the Banana Boat for now. If it does get painted this year, I'll have to figure one out. Maybe have a "name that car" thread. Who knows.... Wayne P. Quote
martybose Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Mine doesn't have an name, and I'm not sure why. Other project cars of mine have had names, and I keep thinking this one should have a name, but one hasn't materialized yet. I've owned it for over ten years now, don't you think it would have told me the name by now? Marty, quizically .............. Quote
steveplym Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Ours is named "Plu Plu". Mostly because it is a Plymouth and is blue. We kids called Grandpa's car that when we were real young. It just stuck. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Back numerous years ago, it was concluded that the convert was a guy sort of car.....not sure why. (probably should be a girl due to the topless part). So we decided to pick a first name that somehow went with his last name of Plymouth. Hence "Petey Plymouth". (there was an old blues singer named Peetie Wheatstraw......maybe that was in there somewhere since I'm a blues fan.) Quote
PatS.... Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 I have only named one of my hundreds of vehicles. It was a 1985 Dodge Maxi Van, it was in great shape but the paint was shot. It had a million rust circles with tiny bubbles all over it, it looked horrible but I didn't care. One of my co-workers at the time just giggled everytime she saw it and said she loved the spots...so...it was Spot from then on. Everyone at work, and friends and family as well were calling it Spot...lots of fun it was. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 ....I have it on good stead from a Penn. source that Don Coatny, after his lackluster showing in the great race, has secretely renamed his blue bomb "The Molassasmobile"...John Burke Up there in Pennssaywhatyouwilly there was a mamma mole, a papa mole, and a baby mole. They lived in a mole hole beside a farm house out in the country. One morning papa mole reached his head out of the hole and said, Mmmmm, I smell sausage. The mama mole reached her head outside of the hole and said Mmmmmm, I smell pancakes. The baby mole tried to reach his head outside the hole but couldn't because of the two bigger moles. The baby mole said, The only thing I can smell is molasses. Quote
Andydodge Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 When I went to look at my 1940 Dodge Sedan back in 1971, the guy that opened the house door said, " oh yeh man, you must mean Sebastion, ........err what I said, Sebastion man, the car man".......whilst my reply wasn't "peace, love, dope,Hari Krishna".......I ended up buying "Sebastion"..........for $15.00......we beat him down from $40.00........lol.......yep, there is a bit of Scottish in the family.........lol.......I generally refer to the Dodge as the "Brown Turd"........Sebastion seems a bit too uppitty for me.........lol......Andy(tightwad) Douglas Quote
John Mulders Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 I sometimes refer to her as Wabi , that is the local name for the classic cars here, a Wabi is a tree and the first restauration project on the island was with a car where a Wabi tree was growing in. The name sticked. john Quote
james curl Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 The original owner of ny 48 P15 was a Mrs. Flossie Bossley, therefore the cars name is Flossie. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 I figured my car and truck were long lost siblings that got reunited later in life. So being somewhat of a star wars fan I named the truck Luke and the coupe Leia. The 51 got named scrappy II after a 52 parts car that we named Scrappy when my sister and I were little. Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Black 35 Dodge sedan was named by my Brother after Eliot Ness.....Nessie Tan 38 Dodge coupe was named by my wife for Bonnie and Clyde.....Clyde Yellow 42 Big Butt Coupe named by me for her large butt.................J-Lo Maroon 49 Suburban was named after the 1st owner Elbert..............Bert Yellow 52 Dodge named by me for the color and noise in cab......Old Yeller 59 Dodge wagon named by the kids...............................The Dad Mobile 64 Plym Valiant named by me ..................................................Prince Quote
Jim Clark Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 I heard a preacher say that after Adam ate the apple God left the Garden of Eden in a "Fury" Since "Fury" is the only car mentioned in the Bible, I figure the least I could do is to name my old plymouth a bibical name so I named her "Jezebel". Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 The 41 bigbutt bz coupe is..........Kirsten (kirsten alley) The Suburban is affectionately referred to as "the 'burb" The 52 Club Coupe is known as "slobberbucket" as I recall dad referring to one of his by that name when I was just a kid... The 54 is really un-named at the moment...though she's getting lots and lots of work as I go along...and the others are un-named as I have not really started work on them..guess I will see what mums want to name the 54 Quote
Vazlov1949 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 My 49 Pilothouse is named Nell. She's a good old girl. And she was Duddly Do-right's girlfriend. My dog's name is Schmedley. Anyone know who Schmedley was? Steve Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Was Smedley the pachyderm character from the Capitan crunch cereal box? Had a big trunk. Nice truck ! Quote
NatesSedan Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 Scmedley if my memory serves was a bulldog cartoon character. He was a villain. I cant remember the name of the toon. I am thinking he was partners with Boris and Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle. Quote

Vazlov1949 Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 I believe he was foil of Woody Woodpecker in the 1950's and the name was resurrected in the 60's as the sidekick of Snidley Whiplash of "Wacky Races" fame. . Anyone remember it differently? Quote
