  1. Younger years?? At 33 you're still there!! mid-Missouri?? For most of my life I wasn't aware Missouri existed north of US-60. Come to think about it, I'm still not convinced.. this state gets weirder the farther north you get..
  2. There are lots of things I like about the LA area but traffic sure isn't one of them.. It's kinda funny, after a couple of days it''s like, "Driving here ain't so bad.." then a few weeks later it's, "Get me back to Missouri!!" I'm sure putting up with it every day with no end in sight could grind you down.. Now that I think about it,, I haven't been out in 7-8 years,, I'm just about ready for another dose!!
  3. That's an average MPH, right?? I've done some time in LA... beautiful downtown Burbank, anyway.. Disc brakes, too?? I remember seeing your car on here before. Really nice!! I've been contemplating gasserizing my '50 Coronet club coupe.. just at the contemplation stage right now..
  4. My '47 did that last weekend,, turned out to be a leaky wheel cylinder. Not bad enough you could see it without pulling the drum..
  5. http://www.hotrod.com/articles/ctrp-1001-bump-steer-explained/ Ackerman has to do with turning, bump steer is a different thang...
  6. I never had the pleasure of working on a Cobra Jet but I've worked on a few other FE motors and those intakes are a chunk... I'd probably end up using a hoist if I had to remove one today.. Hopefully I'll never be forced into that situation...
  7. Can't get more irony than one of those!! Takes 3 men and a boy just to heft the intake manifold!!
  8. Sounds like you were in a good place. The new job will be fine, too.. It's all to do with you and your attitude.. Have a good time at Charlotte!! I'm sure we'd all like to be there, too.. I'm going to an auction with a couple of friends to look at some motorcycles and parts.. If we don't end up with anything we'll at least run the prices up!!
  9. That's a good looking car.. Hard to find around here in that condition..
  10. I like your truck.. The Exploder wheels don't look bad on it, either.. I put almost 400,000 miles on a '94 Exploder... Except for a starter, water pump, and alternator the engine was untouched.. Transmission finally quit or I'd probably still be driving it..
  11. No joke!! I was taught to find something to like about every vehicle you look at and to keep quiet about the things you don't like... Even gold plated engraved brake rotors
  12. Hope the new job works out.. I recently became an employee after nearly 40 years of self-employment. The transition has been a challenge.. Thankfully the company I'm working for allows me a great deal of independence..
  13. Thanks for posting this.. There were twin brothers here who owned a '56 Ford built like this... Everybody loved seeing them driving it, one in the front and one in the back.. They were in every parade around here for many, many years.. They passed away quite a while back... I don't know what happened to the car but I haven't seen it in a long time..
  14. Is it me or are these type threads always intended to start arguments as much or more than actual discussion?? I don't particularly like one make of car more than another, they all have good and bad points; and I really can't figure out why people get so defensive over their own choice and so dismissive of others.. Chevy motor in a Plymouth?? I'm okay with that.. Dodge motor in a Ford?? Why not?? I helped a friend put a 389 Pontiac in a '55 Dodge pickup in the early '70s and it worked out great. A friend recently installed a 4 cyl. Jeep engine in a '59 Rambler wagon last year and it's cool, too.. What's the big deal??
  15. One of my brothers drove my dad's '55 Pontiac hardtop through the end of the garage once.. thought he was in reverse, shoulda pulled that shifter down a little farther.. That must've been in '57 or '58..
  16. I like it.. I'm considering going that route on my '50 Coronet club coupe, probably an S10 frame section since I have a couple of those rusting away already,,, or maybe just sawing the frame off and building a straight axle stub... Whatever scratches the itch....
  17. I read an article a couple of years ago, in Street Rodder IIRC; in which they did pretty much that to a mid-50s Chevy pickup... Adapted GM A-body suspension to the pickup frame rather than going the MII route. Can't remember how they handled the springs, though...
  18. Only here in far southern Missouri..
  19. Somewhere around here I have some of those cardboard coin collecting books full of coins. I have several loose 1943 steel pennies but I don't think I ever had a '42. I also have 12-15 consecutive Mercury dimes I got at a gas station in the early '70s. They gave me one in change and I asked if they had any more. Gave them a dime each for them. I bought a couple of two drawer file cabinets at an auction a few years back for $1.00. Got 'em home, ready to toss in the shed and saw some bills peeking out. My wife asked if they were real and after looking at them I said "Yeah, Real Confederate money!!" 3 Confederate $20.00 bills in plastic carriers. They aren't super collectible but they're worth more than the $1 I had in the filing cabinets...
  20. Judging by the underwhelming response to my attempted sale of a couple of cars that are far nicer than that one appears to be I think the price is way too high.. Sour apples?? Not me... The saving grace is the sunvisor..if it's all there.. I see part of one of the brackets..For some reason people are goofy for those things...
  21. I'd replace the shoes, wheel cylinders, and rubber hoses on both sides...
  22. Buy the Mopar stuff I have in the classifieds to go with it...
  23. My lil bro lives very near Bde Maka Ska. He's almost as much a Dylan fan as I am.. This version of Highway 61, posted on YouTube by Elston Gunn ; is one of many of my favorites.. I'm never sure which other guitarist Bob worked with that I liked best, Bob Margolin, Mike Bloomfield, Mick Ronson, Larry Campbell, T-Bone Burnett, Robbie Robertson... I give up!!
