  1. True!! I live on Highway 61 and like buying and selling so I co-opted Bob's reference to someone looking to sell something.. Let me know if you need any shoestrings or ringside seats to the next world war..
  2. I actually prefer the Dylan versions but seems like more people useta find Johnny Winter to their taste..
  3. An internet name anyway.. This is where mine came from.. I saw JW a few times many, many, years ago and this doesn't do him justice..
  4. They're either way out of adjustment or you have a leaky wheel cylinder.. Pull the drums and take a look..
  5. Nice car!! I like the paint, is that an original color??
  6. I don't know what the engine alone weighs but a complete 230 Dodge engine/transmission assembly, an extra transmission and fluid drive coupling, rear end, front suspension components, intake and exhaust manifold, cylinder head and a few other extra small parts is close to as much as a Chevy S-10 needs to haul if I'm driving it..
  7. I drive my '47 when the mood and opportunity coincide... It's all stock and suits me that way. I don't get to drive it as much as I like but that's life.. Looking to sell a couple of other projects if anyone's interested..
  8. Hood latch on my 1950 Coronet has a little spring to pull the latch to the closed position.. Maybe that spring is broken on yours..
  9. I've had carpal tunnel pain in my left thumb and wrist off and on for at least 30 years. I also have a small lump in my left palm. The doctors say they were brought on by repetitive motion damage. It has been severe enough at times that my wrist won't bend. Not that it won't bend without pain, it just won't bend. The doctors recommended surgery in the early '90s but I declined and just use a wrist brace when it's acting up. Ditto for the elbows. My son has some problems, too; due to an injury. They replaced one of the tendons with one from his wrist and now his left middle finger won't bend.. He says it's handy for driving in Chicago traffic but it sucks for saxophone playing.. Decades of hard manual labor won't kill you but it will break you down..
  10. Car's looking good. I've decided to sell my 1950 Coronet coupe but yours makes me wonder why.. Gas is sure expensive where you live...
  11. That's a great deal!! Looks like you're on your way!!
  12. Wild Bill Gelbke. He's a legend... I think Buzz Walneck had Roaddog a few years ago.. edit to add Google's great!! Found a link... http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2001-07-08/travel/0107080025_1_motorcycle-troopers-trader-publishing
  13. My son is in his mid 40s. We've worked together, made motorcycle road trips together, scrounged around in swap meets, you name it... We went everywhere together.. He told me a few years ago that he went places with me as a little kid that he'd think twice about going to as an adult.. I'm a slightly more respectable citizen now and no longer involved in that lifestyle to that extent.. Those were good days and hopefully informative for the kid... Maybe he learned that every dog has it's day.. Hope your project goes well..
  14. I've generally managed to achieve a reasonable return on investment. IMO plowing $50k into a $10k car isn't a good way to go about it. If you have money that needs a place to hide it may be different. I think that's what brought us million dollar musclecars ...
  15. Cool beans!! Hope it works out for you!!
  16. It wouldn't confuse me but the younger crowd is sometimes sorta uninformed. A guy once asked me if my '56 BSA Road Rocket was an Indian.. I said "Yes, it is. Thanks for asking!!" I guess he didn't see the badges on the tank... I like the fork shrouds on your bike and the drum rear brake.. I'm too old and short in the inseam for the bars, seat, and forward control configuration, though.. I had a TBI many years ago and one of the lingering symptoms is that sometimes when I get off a bike that stretches me out too much my left leg will just buckle. Seriously.. One second it works and the next it don't!! Lots of laughs for everyone else but I'm too old to be falling down indiscriminately... It's not as bad as it useta be but still....
  17. Being the too helpful type I sent the OP a private message offering up a good engine/transmission combo. He may not know how to check private messages or just has no interest. Maybe I asked for too much $$$... Either way is fine, I have a '50 Coronet coupe that needs an engine.. That's why I bought it.. Just trying to do a solid for someone who may need some assistance.. As Red Green always said, "I'm pullin' for ya!!" All the hoopla over this reminds me of showing up at BMW motorcycle events on a Harley,,,, and vice versa.... Always good for a grin or two!!!
  18. I like the simplicity of this setup.. The only thing I'd prefer would be a m/c with a remote reservoir. Maybe something like this with reservoirs in the engine compartment on the firewall.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brake-Master-Cylinder-Dorman-M390584/232545947770?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
  19. I saw Falconvan's coupe before it was finished and it was already very nice.. Really nice guy, too!!
  20. Insurance companies being what they are I wouldn't be surprised if they denied coverage if the vehicle was highly modified but I doubt changing an engine or installing a subframe would make a difference. Homebuilts or kit vehicles require Highway Patrol inspection here but they mainly want to make sure that the vehicle isn't an assemblage of stolen parts.
  21. Nope. Many states have annual vehicle safety inspections but they don't extend that deep here. In fact I've heard there are even some unscrupulous people who can find ways to get almost any vehicle passed without much trouble at all.. Some places have emissions testing, too. I have no idea what that entails, I'll have to ask my kid. He lives in Chicago where they seem to care about things like that.. Even then I don't think Illinois has annual vehicle inspections.
  22. It's always easiest to replace or rebuild the original components but it shouldn't be too much of a hurdle to put a Chevy motor in your car. There are universal type motor mounts galore for the small block Chevy and you can homeroll a transmission mount without a whole lot of grief. Then you can deal with driveshaft, transmission and throttle linkage, wiring, etc. I like all sorts of cars without regard to manufacturer. Good luck with whatever you choose to do!
  23. Had a PV 544 in the early '70s that had 5x4.5 bolt pattern wheels.. One of my favorite cars.. Drum brakes, though.. Maybe the P1800 or 122 had discs??
  24. Rims are rims and wheels are wheels, some people just aren't aware there's a difference..
