  1. I believe that all windshields have to meet DOT standards, but that may only cover impact resistance not distortion. FWIW, about 10 years ago the dealer I worked at bought a used Satrun at auction that had a water leak at one side of the windshield. The cause turned out to be that the Chinese replacement windshield was cut wrong, creating a gap where it met the body of the car.
  2. Our thoughts are with you both.
  3. The process has been around for quite a while. When I attended the University of Buffalo in the 1970's, the Civil Engineering Department entered ferro cement canoes in a yearly competition.
  4. I think that the key-lock hubcap was used to secure the side-mount spare so people wouldn't steal it.
  5. Based on the eBay listing posted earlier in this thread, I think Howard has signed the back of the title, handed over the keys, and walked away. Really sad after all he has gone through.
  6. To my knowledge, Dodge rear fenders are larger than Plymouth. The 50-52 Plymouth fender is shaped similarly to the Dodge and will definitely fit the '49 Plymouth body.
  7. I just got my Harbor Freight July coupon book and they have their 47016/67181 gravity feed spray gun on sale for $12.99. Here's the link: http://www.harborfreight.com/20-oz-8-cfm-gravity-feed-spray-gun-67181.html My first job would be to repaint the junkyard door I bought last year for our '98Lumina to replace the one that some kid smashed for us. The Lumina has metallic basecoat/clearcoat paint. The description of the gun mentions oil-base paints but doesn't talk about what would probably be a lacquer product on the Chevy. I have a couple of older-style suction/pressure guns that I haven't used in many years, and I'm wondering if the new gun would work better. Has anyone here ever used one of these? Are they any good? Any thoughts appreciated. Harold
  8. Years ago my wife made Spam hors d'oeuvres for a party we had. No idea where she found the recipe. They were a flop at the party and I had them for lunch all the next week.
  9. Some states allow you to go from the engine number on the old paperwork to the vehicle number (found on the round stainless steel disc near the driver's door hinge). I did that a few times on Plymouths I registered in New York when I lived there. All I needed was a tracing of the Vehicle Number, as stated previously, and an insurance card in my name with the Vehicle Number on it. No hassle at all; your results may vary!
  10. If the number on your title begins with P23 that's the engine number of the original engine. Many states used it for paperwork purposes years ago. That number should also be on the frame near the rear wheel as mentioned in an earlier post.
  11. You've come to the right place. Welcome to the forum.
  12. I'm actually happy to learn that Cheerios are made in Buffalo. It's a bright spot that still shines in what used to be a thriving area. Buffalo food...those memories make me hungry! Buffalo wings got their start at the Anchor Bar on Main Street downtown. I had them there once and they were great. My favorite Buffalo food is the burritos served by the Mighty Taco, which started out as a hole-in-the-wall on Hertel Avenue and has grown over the years to about a dozen locations in western New York. (The dog food story is an urban legend, I hope!...)
  13. If that stuff ever happened to my credit cards, I would immediately suspect a case of identity theft and take the appropriate steps to find out for sure what's going on. I hope you did the same.
  14. The jack pictured in the first post is a real safety hazard. Our original '52 Plymouth had one of those and the car slipped right off the jack one day when my father was changing a tire. He always used a hydraulic jack after that. Harold
  15. Bob, My wife and I favor ranch-style houses to avoid steps, but they're difficult to find outside of adult communities because they actually cost more to build (larger foundation and roof) and take up a greater percentage of the lot. If you have time, it may pay to visit any new active adult communities in your area and see what their floor plans look like. You might get some ideas for your rebuild.
  16. I think it's forwardlook.net
  17. Good luck on your procedure. I had one installed last Friday (for a total of 4), and was back at work yesterday. The hard part, at least for me, is eating healthily and getting enough exercise. Harold
  18. If I didn't have so many unfinished projects, I'd be on the road with a tow bar.... http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/2450877899.html
  19. To my knowledge, our AAA doesn't have any restrictions on vehicle age. Someone I know broke down in an old Plymouth and had it towed nearly 200 miles at no charge a couple of years ago. They do want the vehicle to be registered, even if it's only a temporary paper tag.
  20. Do you have AAA? The free towing comes in mighty handy sometimes.
  21. Scary story. Glad your son is okay. Stories like this make a good case for 2-man squad cars.
  22. Nice looking car, but the seller should look at his paperwork because the car is a '51!
  23. Diet and exercise are very important, and the truth is that I should have been better about both for the past couple of years. That is changing now.
  24. On the 51-52's, there is a hole in the bottom of the ignition switch that a bulb/socket snaps into. I suspect the '49's are very similar.
  25. I've been taking it easy since the procedure but do feel more alert. After the heart attack/ stents several years ago, I did notice a big increase in energy. I found myself 'running out of gas' very easily for the past couple of months, which was another sign that my circulation wasn't what it should be.
