  1. No more $9.99 dinners for me.......
  2. Alex, My cars are not roadworthy at this point. I stopped at the Friendly's cruise once in mid-July but didn't see a P15. If I can make it in the next few weeks I will. Harold
  3. Alex, There is a driveshaft place in Farmingdale that may be able to adjust the axle you have. I don't know their name but they should be fairly easy to find. Harold
  4. Both our kids go to school in Western New York. Our son is in RIT and daughter in Geneseo. If we visit our son first, we go up 81 to Syracuse and get on the Thruway. I'll let you know the next time we're up your way.
  5. Good point, Greg. I forgot all about the mud-fest!
  6. Bob, I was at the yard a few days ago. We went to visit our kids on Thursday (one at RIT in Rochester and the other in SUNY Geneseo). We cut through PA from NJ and go up I-81 from Scranton. I try to stop at Gary's whenever we have time since you never know what they'll have and the prices are reasonable. If we ever take the scenic route along 17/86 I'll let you know and we can try to get together. Harold
  7. It was heading south on I-81 around 2PM Thursday afternoon. Does it belong to anyone here?
  8. In case anyone needs parts, I spotted a '50 Dodge 4-door at Gary's U-Pull-It in Binghamton, NY. Didn't have a camera, as usual. It looks like somebody was in the process of fixing it up because there were a bunch of trim pieces in the trunk. Unfortunately it was caught in a flood so there's lots of mud everywhere. Another one bites the dust.
  9. Fred, That's great news! I'm glad you got it to spin. Harold
  10. Some rental contracts specifically prohibit carrying a vehicle in the truck body. If you do rent a truck, you'd need to tie down the pickup suspension because on bumps it will start bouncing and could cause the rental vehicle to be unstable. A compound harmonic oscillator, if I remember my engineering correctly.
  11. I remember reading that the transmission crossmember is different in Hy-Drive cars so you should bear that in mind. Also, you'll need a big pan when you drain the engine oil because Hy-Drive cars take 10 quarts.
  12. Have you looked for a shipper in Hemmings? Also, Hertz does not have one-way drop charges for cars, maybe it's the same for trucks. Sounds like a fun trip!
  13. I wonder how long it took for the artists to create each illustration, and what media they used.
  14. Have a great birthday!
  15. I've got degrees in Physics and engineering. Does that make me less than last?
  16. One more thing to remember: If a stuck piston is at TDC or BDC, you have no vertical component of force when trying to turn the crankshaft because the connecting rod pivots on the wrist pin.
  17. Thanks for the responses. We hadn't considered the Philadelphia suburbs but will check them out.
  18. Just watch out for offshore windshields. The quality may not be as good as you'd want it to be.
  19. Early Saab's also had 4-speed column shifts. My cousin had one in the late sixties.
  20. Good luck. Years ago I had a '51 Cranbrook with a seized engine and all six pistons were stuck.
  21. Both kids are now in college and my wife and I have decided to downsize to save some money. Our house is too big for us and New Jersey taxes are absurd. We're considering Delaware because it's not too far from our families and the property taxes are much lower. We'd like to live in a suburban town or decent neighborhood in a larger city. Does anyone on the forum live in Delaware or have any insights into the state, along the lines of quality of life, areas to avoid, job availability, etc? Any thoughts appreciated. Harold
  22. You may want to use a thin piece of plastic (like a strip of milk jug) to clean any loose crud between the pistons and cylinder walls, so the liquid can get to the rings easier.
  23. It has been mentioned and disputed here before, but some folks have had good luck unseizing an engine by vibrating the crankshaft nut with an impact gun. Basically a few BRRP's each day over a week or so, not one big impact festival. Keep the cylinders wet with your choice of penetratng fluids.
  24. I went to this yard today (still looking for a green Lumina door...) and saw the Chrysler. All six cylinders were full of water because of the recent storms. No brake drums and the interior is trashed. It was a nice car once.... They had another car that I don't think deserves to be there. It's a 4-door '61 Buick Special with a V6 and three on the tree. Looked complete except for the radiator. It must have been in a garage for about 20 years because the last inspection was 1992. Definitely a restorable car.
  25. Good going, Chet.
