  1. Great looking paint job. Why are you painting half the car at a time?
  2. Atlantic City was THIS weekend?? I thought it was next weekend and was planning to go. Oh, well, just another one I've missed....
  3. I wonder how many cars in this picture still exist...
  4. I've seen clutch pivot balls in the 'Help' section of auto parts stores. If it's not on display, the store might have the R&B / Help catalog to look in. Maybe one of those would work.
  5. I'd keep the parts. The next owner may want to go back to original, or another project may come along where you can use them.
  6. I once got a huge piece of rubber car mat from a van conversion shop. They pulled them out of new vans so carpet could be installed. An ambulance builder might also be worth a shot. You never know...
  7. Just saw this. Maybe someone here is interested: http://southjersey.craigslist.org/pts/2210994952.html
  8. A local radio host commented that it sounded like she was yodeling the anthem. I agree with his assessment.
  9. Those Desotos were used as NYC taxicabs back in the day. My father drove loads of them.
  10. These are very light and don't catch my fingernail. What surprised me is that I only use a plastic ice scraper on windows, and I've never had this happen before.
  11. I noticed some light scratches in the door glass of my daily-driver '05 Grand Caravan that must have happened during our last ice storm a few days ago. They are definitely in the pattern that I scrape the glass. Is there a way to polish them out? Bon-Ami, maybe? Any thoughts appreciated. Harold
  12. In 1964, my father and I took a trip from Brooklyn to Niagara falls in our '52 Cambridge. The engine threw a rod and we were directed to a reputable and honest junk yard run by Stanley Stauba in Darien Center, NY. Stan didn't have a car to sell that he trusted for a long trip, but he did have a '51 Belvedere with a good engine. The engine, including installation, was $46.00! Quite a deal, even back then. Stan's reputation and business grew considerably over the years, and when he passed away a TV station in Buffalo did a feature story about his life.
  13. Any auto repair or tire shop should have a Tire Fitment Guide that gives wheel bolt patterns and offsets so you can pin down what modern wheel will fit. Have a great trip!
  14. Seller wants $20. for this sign. Somebody here may be interested. Linky: http://lancaster.craigslist.org/clt/2172175245.html
  15. Good luck with your mudding. One thing about drywall work that I can't wrap my head around is that tape and patches are never really flat, but feathered out over a larger area, then concelaed with flat paint. This is completely opposite to automotive bondo-flinging, where pool-table flatness is the goal.
  16. I've been to a lot of impound auctions also and, in my experience, the cars are pawed-over fairly thoroughly by the police or government agency before the auction. Once in a while you can still find good/neat stuff that was overlooked. At the County Auction here a few years ago, the Prosecutor's Office sold a car that still had drugs and ammunition in it. After that incident, they check every forfeited vehicle very carefully before selling it.
  17. Jon, Is the T-Bird in the picture from an eBay listing? My friend bought one just like it from eBay about 6 months ago with the same colors.
  18. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  19. My cousin sold Dodges in Brooklyn when Demons first came out, and he got the first one in as a demo. Nice car, but one fender had a Demon emblem, and the other side had a Duster emblem. You gotta love things like that!
  20. IF anyone has a salesman's book, that would tell what color combos were available.
  21. What was considered a parts car 20-30 years ago would be thought of as restorable today. My first '51 Cranbrook (that I got in 1977) was not as far gone as your Studebaker. It was complete, had rotted fenders and rockers, and a stuck engine. I gave up on it and parted it out (which I regret). Today, someone would jump right in and fix it up.
  22. You might want to try an auto upholstery place for those push-on retainers. That's where I got some a while ago. They're used to attach dome lights after replacing the headlining.
  23. Could a control arm bushing be binding? Do they need grease?
  24. How come the Syracuse newspaper pattern department was in NYC??
