  1. Brendan, your location reminds me of my son. He claims to have the only diplomatic registered Warturg in the world.
  2. Thats cool. Why can't I ever have a good idea?
  3. I am called many names. Here, I go by the only socially acceptable one.
  4. I cannot believe that anyone would sit in line with a running motor for thirty minutes just to get some "fast food".
  5. It will also get you arrested in this state !
  6. If you use gas that is 10% ethanol, you shouldn't need to use anything else to remove moisture from your tank. Ethanol is a form of alcohol, which is what Heet and other gas dryers are. Its a theory I think is good. I have not had any moisture problems since we started using ethanol several years ago.
  7. Not a bad idea, could help, and certainly won't hurt.
  8. Tim, Festivus will last until the end of February, at least if I start whining.
  9. A very Merry Christmas to each and every one of you ! And thank you, Gerald, for helping us all to learn and enjoy.
  10. I think the air cleaner bracket would be the only problem. You might have to adjust the length of the throttle rod, but it would be minor.
  11. The radiator is on the wrong end because this engine designwas originally for a DKW that had a very aerodynamic sloped nose. This 1976 model is odd in that it has a chrome plated grille where most have a painted panel. Its from the same people that made Trabants. Fuel mixture is 50:1 and a few gas stations still have a pump with pre-mixed fuel. In Budapest, where the car lives, there are many Wartburgs and Trabants still running around. They are cheap transportation and parts are still available. This particular car was owned by an elderly couple who, of course, bought it new and used it sparingly. It shows only 30k kilometers and is museum quality. The owner, like some of us, considered it his "baby", and maintained it just for something to do. Every part he ever replaced was put in the new parts box and kept in the trunk. I understand that my son is planning on bringing it back to Virginia when they leave Hungary in a few years.
  12. Its a 1976 Wartburg 353W. Note that from the tiime he brought it home he has changed the registration to diplomatic plates. Also, the front of the car is to the LEFT in engine picture. It is a 3 cylinder, 2 cycle motor with some really clever engineering. It was made in the DDR. Dual brake system is accomplished by having two separate wheel cylinders at each wheel plumbed to a dual master cylinder making two complete, but equal systems.
  13. Nein.
  14. Neither British nor Japanese.
  15. Two years ago I spent a week at the VA hospital in Nashville Tenn. I have nothing but good to say about them. The people could not have been nicer or more helpful. I am not a veteran, so they had no reason to try to keep me happy. I was just there to donate "T" cells to my brother, who is a veteran with leukemia.
  16. This is what my son bought himself for fun. Guess what it is. No fair Robin, you probably have seen these before.
  17. Now who's dreaming?
  18. Plastic platers can be found in model car magazines and yes, the plating is thin enough that letters will show up nicely. It ain't cheap though.
  19. Hahahahahaha,, or taken apart!
  20. No maintenance is definitely the good life! What would happen if wives were as low maintenance as an old mopar?
  21. Carl, looks like you got a life-long friend there. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Don't get in a hurry, do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again. Your Godfather did you a great favor. Make him proud.
  22. I'm glad to see that picture because I had that happen to me several years ago and besides me, some people didn't believe it could really happen. I had a 65 LeSabre that I was junking so a few of us decided to have some fun. I was scooting thru the woods bouncing off trees and such just for the fun of it when we came to a stop for no apparent reason. The car would back up a few feet, and then go forward a few, but then stop. Somewhere we had run over and ol bedspring I never saw, and it caught a corner on the u-joint. I had to walk back home, get a jack and wire cutters to get it off. It did wrap up but a few feet of spring, but it was enough to stop that car. Not learning very fast the next thing I did was to try jumping a shallow ditch. Well, you can't get up much speed in the woods and I didn't even come close to making it. Both front wheels tried to go in opposite directions and made it almost impossible to get it back home. C,mon, admit it, some of you have done stupid stuff too.
  23. Geez Robin, Does one guy deserve ALL the good stuff? I guess so, because you seem to have it. Well, I you do deserve it, even if it does make be ridiculously jealous. My envy is limitless.
  24. I hope that antifreeze isn't lubricating your water pump bearings ! That would be very bad.
  25. As you can tell from this post, I'm not an expert at anything, but,,,, I have been using recycled 10w30 from my Buick for about ten years now. It must be good enough. Any oil out there is better than what these cars were using when they were new.
