  1. Greg, moose droppings look like dark peanut shells. Unbelievably small for something the size of a moose. They used to show up in my sons yard in Alaska.
  2. Marty, there's really no need to disconnect the vacuum line since the vacuum source is above the throttle plate where there is not enough vacuum to have any effect on the diaphragm. Those dang Chevys started that practice because their vacuum source is below the throttle plate where vacuum is present all the time its running. Just another reason that its easier to maintain a flathead mopar than a belly-button SBC.
  3. Yeah, a little repainting catch there is that states don't allow color changes and some don't even allow repainting of the original color. If you're not gonna register them as YOM plates, then none of this matters and you can do whatever you want. Indiana just started a YOM plate program this year and they are being real horses patoots about it!
  4. Point gap affects timing. If you started with a new set of points set at .020, and then set your timing at 5 degrees ahead, the timing will change as the point gap changes though wear. When you change to a new set of points its a good idea to recheck your timing to make sure its where you want it with the new points reset at .020. Always set the point gap first, then set the timing.
  5. Yes, I still have everything I need to form up. Except the energy. By the nineties, I had already "retired" from running up hills with a ten pound musket and standing formation in the sun wearing dark blue wool. PIt was great fun, but not at this age. Not many hobbies where you get to run around and shoot at people. Mopars are as much fun, but you get to sit down and ride.
  6. Hey Arkansawer, welcome to the forum from another retired re-enactor. Pvt. Hoback, Co. H, 9th Ind. Vol. Inf.
  7. I forgot to mention that you shouldn't use sandpaper or emery cloth to dress your points as it leaves small particles in the metal and makes them burn. Always use a file. One whose geneology is known.
  8. I ain't sure, but I thought it was tungsten. I always thought too, that the "ventilated points" thing was just an excuse to use less metal.
  9. Ok, you started me. My first job as a kid was at a hardware and mill supply company. Early on a n elderly woman came in whose husband was the maintenance guy for an apartment house. Picture a me, first job, and the woman says, "I need a 6 inch flat bastard". One of the other guys told me she wanted a file. There was much laughter after she had gone, but it taught me to be ready for anything. Geez, that was 50 years ago and still remember it vividly.
  10. Wel, dang. I've got that too.
  11. James Curl, I wanna be like you when I grow up. My middle name is James, does that help any?
  12. Don, thank you very much. That picture really gave me a good chuckle. How could you possibly have remembered that? Sometimes you are amazing.
  13. Robin, you are going out of your way to be fair by showing great character. Perhaps the "seller" will recognize how lucky he is to be dealing with a man of your fairness and will grow up and take responsibilty for his actions.
  14. I'll be 65 tomorrow and I don't want to hear any talk about the alternative !
  15. Time to jump in here and say, "it wasn't me". I would like to know who it was though, just because I think someone that would do a thing like that needs some public embarrasment, at the very least.
  16. I used to have a 1960 Olds 88 4 door wagon with a body by Ionia. I thought is was odd, so I kept the nameplate that was on the sill instead of the body by fisher plate. I still have that thing around here somewhere.
  17. Plain old friction tape has always worked good for me.
  18. It shouldn't be hard to make.
  19. Old Woolie, somebody had to say it, a lot of us were thinking it.
  20. The flywheel will only go on one way. The holes are unevenly spaced so that they only line up one way.
  21. Those taillights look to be from an 80's Oldsmobile. Just a guess.
  22. The choice is whether you want to go with her or not, but rather do you want her for a girlfriend or not. A negative answer to the first will also answer the second.
  23. It sounds like they just didn't have the guts to say they didn't want to do it. Maybe they thought you were crazy enough to go for it.
  24. I, too, have questions about dwell meters. I have two that are for 6 volts systems and one that is for 6 or 12 volt. Each one gives me a different reading at the same engine speed. Are they adjustible and how would I know if and when it was adjusted right? Should I just set the points where they are supposed to be and then adjust the meter to what it should read? Or chuck them and use a feeler guage?
  25. Blue was my first thought and that is what it will be. I guess all I needed was somebody to confirm it for me. But then, 1/2" of red,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, no no, blue it is.
