  1. Don't overlook the Ford Ranger 5-speed swap ala Robert Horne: http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=19456
  2. Time for an up-date from happyhewy. Keep in mind the parasitic losses in some of these transmissions as mentioned by kencombs. I do not recommend using the 727/518 because of this. .
  3. Why would anyone do this much work before having a title assigned ?
  4. Wonderful compilation of pics and posts. Are you able to share what the future holds for the car?
  5. Charlie, wonderful story! As a Vietnam combat veteran please pass along my gratitude to your son for his continued service. As to the pillow case, one of the local screen print shops claims that they can copy and print anything... You might check your local shops, perhaps they can duplicate it.
  6. My concern would be that of the total distance between mounts. Although later packages used the trans mount and the 'front' engine mounts, the actual 'front' side mounts are quite far from the front of the engine, especially on an inline. I do believe that some style of brace/strut would be required between pan rail and bottom of trans case. MotherMopar even used some on trucks/vans in the 60's-70's with 318-TF. When I look at something of this nature, I always look to the factory to see if there is something comparable to study, afterall, they spent tens-of-millions on R&D.
  7. Aaahhhh...very busy little project....looks good. Only 420 inches? .
  8. ...where does one find the 'album'?
  9. The rake is perfect. Curious to see what you do for the center caps. I kinda like to cop car pieces. .
  10. Right on Greg...I made an assumption that a rebuild would include a fresh cam...
  11. Some of those engines were used in the 'little' trucks so, although limited, rwd trans were used along the way. And, if the desire is there, making a one-off trans adapter is always an option. Manual trans not so difficult...the issue with an auto trans is finding a suitable piece without a pile of computers attached.

There are enough variations in rear mounts that it will be left to a good fabricator (several lurk around here) to find the best solution and that might not include the stock location. One of the reasons I use steel for my trans adapters is to hopefully be of use to the rear mount issue. It is fat enough to allow for drilling and tapping into the sides for attaching mounts if needed.
  13. I use 20 minutes and a steady 2000 rpm for everything. Do not let a fresh engine idle during the break-in. Others will have their favorite methods.
  14. Check with George Asche, maybe he has someone in his list of whos who. 814-354-2621
  15. Considering the high costs of the aftermarket Pinto parts the Jaguar XJ-6 IFS is down right cheap and no harder to install.
  16. Good thought James. The 4.0l Jeep is an extremely durable engine and makes decent power. I too am surprised that folks don't look at them as they are plentiful in the pic-n-pull yards.
  17. The /6 is considerably longer than a L6. They are great engines but they consume alot of space. Look at the 50 Dodge Fester60 is working on. Most of the swap related details would be similar. It will be difficult to find a more reliable engine than a 318, however, if you want/need to use the 3.9 v-6 there are intake manifolds available for carbs. As to a late TF trans for the 218, check my web site www.qualityengineeredcomponents.com
  18. Great to hear of your find. Now, get busy!!
  19. All right folks, nothing to see here, move along, go on, keep moving. My rule is that if I don't understand what someone is talking about I can either skip the conversation or send a pm and ask for clarification so as to NOT clutter the thread. It would appear that there are plenty of folks that simply like to see their name in print...
  20. ...God help the current kids and future generations.....
  21. Parts are relatively inexpensive and there is plenty of interchange from pass car to truck to industrial applications. Pulling the head is a good first move.
  22. Very nice truck! For the new guy, shocks don't affect ride height, only control rebound/bounce...
  23. The other company is Quality Engineered Components The 727 is NOT recommended due to the higher parasitic losses. The 904 is reputed to have similar losses to the small gm units but there is very little hard data from which to get actual hard numbers. Keep in mind that with a late model trans swap there will be a substantial amount of 'incidental' work.
  24. Just curious...what is the per foot cost of poking holes in your area? Do any of your neighbours have deeper wells? Since we can't see what we are drilling into we never know if one aquifer lays on top of another one with an impervious barrier between them. FWIW, in my area, wells are 800-1000 feet... As suggested, if you resue anything from the old well sanitize it.
  25. I haven't used it myself, but have heard good reports on 'Rebel' wire.
