  1. ...as I suspected.......
  2. Brent, the very-helpful worker bee said 5-7 days. Reddaway trucking also said 7 days but they wanted $750... I figure if a customer just-has-to-have-it then they can pay whatever the premium might be. Most folks can probably wait a few extra days if the price is right. pflaming, a lot of folks reference Greyhound but I'm still trying to figure out how Greyhound would be able to handle a pallet sized item. Do they also have a trucking side to the people freight operation?
  3. Looks to be in pretty good shape. Any special plans? I still have the '79 that I bought new...someday it will get 'renewed'...
  4. Just an update to a common question of shipping costs for something like an engine. I just received a quote from Fastenal for shipping an engine from Bend to Northern Michigan...$250 !!!! .
  5. 61¾" according to this guy........ http://www.qualityengineeredcomponents.com/?page_id=1023
  6. Looks like a lug bolt.
  7. I have a complete 340 core on the rack and wasn't thinking that I'd get that much for the entire engine....guess I'll be re-thinking....
  8. I am working on a 251 to replace the stuck 230 in my 52 dodge pickup. So far so good. When I got the 251, it didn't come with a starter so I put the 230 starter on it. This is before I realized the 251 could have a different flywheel tooth count. The engines that you have in front of you should all have 146 tooth ring gears. The 172 tooth ring did not appear until 1957. Anyway putting the 230 starter on was no problem and it worked fine - didn't bind up and sounded ok. So is this normal? Yes. First - could the 230 flywheel fit on this motor (explaining why the starter didn't get bound up)? Yes. The 52 has a three speed fluid drive. Will I be able to bolt the fluid drive to the 251? Yes. As previously mentioned, there is a difference with the 201 cranks and flywheels in terms of 'depth', but there is also a difference in the number of bolts, also previously mentioned. All of the fluid couplers and torque converters will have and require 8 bolt attachments. There are 4-bolt and 6-bolt cranks/flywheels in some of the older 23" engines but not in the 25" engines. ...clear as mud, eh?
  9. From another Nam vet, perhaps he bumped his head 'over there' ? How does he think he will know what bearings to buy? And, I'd be looking for a different machine shop. Gary
  10. The 'big' difference between the 201-208-218 and everything else is the distance that the crank flange projects from the face of the block; 1" vs 1-3/16". It may not seem like much but it can cause major alignment issues with the starter pinion to ring gear depending on which ring gear is used on which flywheel.
  11. You seem intent on installing a shiverlay in the car but ....why???????????? Whatever gm has now, or ever had, MaMopar can equal it. You might get some attention but I doubt that it will be all positive. The planned new FCA turbo-4 is in the 300hp range, but as mentioned, none of those crate engines are cheap. You can buy a lot of gas for the thousands of dollars wasted when a low mileage wrecked donor vehicle could be bought.
  12. Actually, a ¼" gap is something to consider, and the lip seal placement is important. From an engineering standpoint I'd be wondering what is causing it to stand proud and is there a remedy. It certainly could be that all of the associated parts stack-up to that position and perhaps w/o some machining it is what it is, but personally I'd be concerned about the seal.
  13. Agreed. It all depends on what you have to pay for the donor/wreck and how much 'stuff' you want/need to salvage. I'd say you did well....what did you buy?
  14. ...conversely, I'd suggest that the price is quite reasonable. And, for those of us who have a lot more sand in the bottom of our personal hour-glass than in the top, the time spend designing what is offered is better spent on other aspects of the swap.
  15. Have you asked Wildcat or BigM for a trans? .

Seller fees and PayPal equal about 15% these days...... As to the size of things, I'll offer this story: I'm looking on ebay for a die (as in threads/bolts) and since I have multiple die holders I am not inclined to buy a die of some size I can't use. So, the die in question is a hex shape and there are several different sizes on various listing so I send a message to a vendor to ask what theirs measures across the flats .....the response was entertaining but not informative since they insisted that the die was 6" x 4" x 1". The listing showed it in a bubble pack.......
  17. Look around for the AX15 used in Dakotas, Jeeps and Ram1500. Plenty stout! I have some info on my web pages that should help.
  18. Oh, nothing wrong with the 4.7! We have an '02 Durango with the 4.7 and 165k on the clock. That sucker still runs hard and gives 20mpg. I need to add that the basic trans is an excellent unit, at least it is in our case. Regular fluid and filter changes are required and our trans is still untouched.
  19. There are plenty of adapters for the 'normal' block but for modern transmissions. There are some oem manual bells used up to 1960 that are bolt-up but for the same years trans. Some of the 56-60 bells have both the L6 and V8 block patterns and with some minor work will accept the A-833. It may be possible, never say "never" with MaMopar, that a 53-55 bell could be made to work with the 46 trans but 'you' would need to have all of the parts/pieces on the floor in front of you to see what the differences are. Also, keep in mind that all of the V8 engines up to 1962,(excludes the 51-53 331 Hemi) (excludes the B-RB), have the same bell pattern. The 46 trans problem remains so I'd start looking at alternatives....it will not live long.
  20. ...anyone have a better pic of this style radio in a truck?
  21. sooooooooo, what did TrampSteer do?
  22. ...more than a little curious about the 'button-shift in the dash in the as-bought photo but also showing the manual trans shifter...???? What did you buy?
  23. As said, the inner shaft is part of the steering box. It is possible to cut the shaft and make a mechanical connection/splice but that would still require removing everything anyway so for a one-time removal it is not worth the effort.
  24. Charlie, I do understand your position. Someone in Canada has been copying one of my trans adapters for a number of years now and on occasion I get a call looking for additional info...........
  25. You won't find any adapters for the '46 trans and, if you could hook them together you would destroy the trans quickly. The big question is what year is the Hemi engine.
