  1. Made it across - easier than leaving. Now that I have non-brankrupting phone service i'l study the suggestions. Thanks, all.
  2. Went to see George about 6 months ago. Busy guy, he and his sons have a lot going on. George still took the time to give us an extended tour. Nice people.
  3. It's hardly out of our way. We'll try to get there. Thanks.
  4. We're wandering around Ontario, in Peterborough today. Going to a GM museum today or tomorrow. (Where the heck is the Mopar museum??) We'll pass by Niagara Falls, then across the north edge of NY on to Stowe, Vt. Anything interesting to see along that route? Anyone along the way want to talk old mopars? I have a week to make a long days drive, so I'm looking for things I shouldn't miss.
  5. There is a special socket for those. They are not hex and neither is the switch. They used to be a common item, but may be hard to find these days.
  6. Guess I stand corrected. Rotella and some others have cut way back, I guess not all. Surprising, because it was supposed to be due to EPA requirements, just like cars. You'd think they all had to meet the requirements. Must be more to the story, but I'm not going to try to figure it out. If someone else does, please speak up. Regardless, whoever wants zinc now has more choices.
  7. I looked to see where he is. About 5 hours away. Briefly thought about making an offer. Then I remembered - I'm trying to get rid of projects I'll never have time for, not add to the list!
  8. I bought a never disassembled, unrusted 42 Plymouth 2 door a few years back for $1500. Non running, no interior, with a title. Right guy should pay the same for yours. Appears to to not have rust or dents, that is worth a lot. No title would make it harder to sell. i can't imagine starting a car project "because I couldn't find a buyer". You'd be far better off to just take it to the crusher and you've had a better offer than that already. You will NEVER recover all the money you put into it, not even counting for your time. And with the interest level you have it won't get far.
  9. Simply not true. They did have it longer than gas oils, but no more. Rotella still makes an older version (H) for Detroit diesels, which requires zinc, but it's hard to find. The also make an even older version sold in Walmart and other places, sold in gallon jugs, same price as modern Rotella. I forget the name, but there is another letter in addition to RotellaT, I think they say it's for older cars, tractors, etc. You'll have to decide if you need zinc or not, but it's pretty easily found these days if you think you do.
  10. Don, you're so bad! Sure, you are correct, but..... if everything is hooked up water will fill most everything. Slowly as it passed the closed thermostat, but except for a few are voids it'll fill it all. Pump will circulate it and hopefully push out any remaining air, like in the heater, and a few air bubbles in the head. But for the most part it'll fill without the pump.
  11. On the old software, when using my I Phone, I could click on the link at the bottom of page and go to the desktop version. Among other things I could then chat. I don't find either option now. Am I missing it or is it gone?
  12. Thanks. I've passed the link to him.
  13. A a friend is restoring a 37 dodge coupe. He's missing some of the oval shaped bumper bolts. Anyone know where you can get these?
  14. You can also try tightening and loosening. Alternate. Tiny amounts. Lots of times. The idea is to work loose the corrosion, etc, that is holding it. Similar to the punch idea. Your enemy is impatience. Most will come out with enough piddling.
  15. Back to what he first suggested - doing an "in chassis" overhaul, more or less. If you're doing more than one repair it would be much easier to just remove the motor for the work than all the climbing, leaning and crawling, plus you'll do a much better job. Probably quicker, too. These are not difficult motors to remove and replace.
  16. It would have been overkill for my T bucket. But then, it's already wired so I don't need it.
  17. In Mo. tax is on actual sale price, and $25 for a lifetime plate. Guess it's a good deal?
  18. Zinc or no zinc - that is the question (Will that get it started?) to
  19. $40 at NAPA? That's crazy. I bought several gallons recently for around $14 a gallon. It's NAPA brand. I'll get the UPC later today and post it. They most likely will have to order it, but they do stock it in their warehouses. Mine had some on the shelf as someone wanted a gallon and they have to order it by the case of 4 gallons.
  20. I have 2 331 ci motors. Looks about the same. Both runners. Gene
  21. As to capacity, I changed mine recently using a gallon jug of GL1. I'd say there was about a quart left, more or less.
  22. I thought someone would have a response by now, but I only have a question. These take GL1 normally. What would be a synthetic equivalent to GL1, if anything? Gene
  23. I've done no swaps, but I have owned a flathead 6 mated to a powerflite. (2speed automatic, 55 Plymouth). Not a speed demon, but gets you down the highway at respectable speeds. About 60 mph at around 21 seconds in the quarter mile drags, as I recall. Powerflites were a factory setup behind the six and require few modifications, just a search for parts. I gave away 2 recently. I'm not suggesting this is the way you should go, just passing info hopefully to help you sort it out. I suspect a 3 speed torqueflite would also be a bolt up option, but someone else will have to verify that. Gene
