  1. Robert, The valve is completely open. mhawkins, Manual brakes, no power booster. A few hundred miles on the rear brakes. A couple of thousand on the front. Don, The bore is 1". The m/c was supplied by ECI for use with four wheel disc brakes. The linkage is similar to yours. I do not know the pedal ratio. Jim Yergin
  2. I have installed four wheel disc brakes on my '41 Plymouth. AAJ's kit in the front and Ford Explorer rear axle with discs in the back. I have an underfloor dual reservoir Corvette master cylinder from ECI with their brackets to use the original brake pedal. I have 2lb residual valves in the lines and an adjustable proportioning valve on the rear brake line. I have pressure bled the system and have a good hard pedal. The brake pads are new. My problem is that the brakes just do not perform very well. I cannot get the car to stop short or even lock up the brakes. I would welcome any suggestions or thoughts as to what I am missing. Thanks. Jim Yergin
  3. Beautiful! Great work Joe. I look forward to seeing it in person. Jim Yergin
  4. For my '41 Plymouth I find that very often the bolt sizes are listed in the parts manual not the shop manual. Jim Yergin
  5. I believe the flywheels have different offsets to account for the slightly longer 230 crank. If you use the 218 flywheel the starter may not reach far enough to engage. Jim Yergin
  6. Bob, I am using Gabriel 81676 shocks on mine. Jim Yergin
  7. I put the Explorer rear end in my '41 and it works great. However, you do have to relocate the spring perches and the rear disc brakes will not work with the standard wheels without removing material from the brake calipers. Jim Yergin
  8. I did not make them. They came off another car that came from the factory with them. Jim Yergin
  9. Couple of more pictures. Jim Yergin
  10. Here is what I have in my '41 Plymouth. Jim Yergin
  11. Joe, I had one built locally for my car. It cost $375. If you want, I can find the name of the shop that did it for me. Jim Yergin
  12. The O/D unit and the rest of the transmission are not sealed from each other. They share the same oil. I use straight 40 weight oil in mine. Jim Yergin
  13. When I first got my '41 back on the road, the brakes locked up within the first 200 yards. Turned out (just as Don suggests) there was insufficient free play in the m/c brake rod to allow the piston to clear the relief port. Jim Yergin
  14. I drive a 2001 PT Cruiser with 5 speed manual. I love the car. I have 367,000 miles on it. I did replace the first engine at 165,000 (overheated it-my fault). The second one is still going strong. Jim Yergin
  15. Looks good. Congratulations on a big step. Jim Yergin
  16. Looks great. Nice work. Jim Yergin
  17. Looking forward to your updates. Have a fun and safe trip. Jim Yergin
  18. I think you are going to have the same problem with the calipers on the Explorer rear end with the stock wheels. I know I did on my '41 Plymouth. I had to grind material off the calipers but they work fine now. Jim Yergin
  19. Chet, who is a member of this forum, years ago, kindly scanned and posted the 1936-1948 Plymouth Parts Book on his web site. It may be found at: http://www.1948plymouth.info/1948p15/DocumentWeb/default.php The password is password. I have used it often and am very grateful to Chet. Jim Yergin
  20. Bob, Looks great. For some strange reason I believe you can't go wrong with a '41 body. Jim Yergin

  22. Looks great. Jim Yergin
  23. It is a 1942 Dodge Command Car, a military vehicle, not a regular Dodge passenger car. Jim Yergin
  24. There is a reality TV show on the Velocity cable channel that is just finishing its first season following the restoration of a 1955 Buick. The second season (starts January 4, 2014 on my local Comcast cable system) where they will be restoring a 1942 Dodge Command Car with the original flat head six. You can watch the first episode of the second season on-line. I like the show. It does not have the manufactured deadlines and drama of the other automobile reality shows. 25. I am no expert but I would think it is more likely a problem with the sending unit in the tank. Maybe the float on the end of the arm has come off and the arm just swings up an down on its own. Had that happen on an old Mustang I once owned. Jim Yergin
