  1. Joe, When you had continuity at the terminals when it was in the car, were the terminals still connected to the regulator? Jim Yergin
  2. Joe, Congratulations on the first drive. I take it you sorted out the problem with the leaking master cylinder. I know you will figure the charging issue. Great milestone. Jim Yergin
  3. Joe, The curved level re-positions the other lever to engage the reverse/first gear lever. They work together. The "normal" position is just second/third. Jim Yergin
  4. Is it time to call Neil? Jim Yergin
  5. As I understand the O/D, the reverse lock out does not prevent you from going into reverse when in overdrive but rather takes it out of overdrive when you shift into reverse. In other words it shouldn't matter wether or not you have the overdrive cable in or out. Jim Yergin
  6. It can be deceiving. I thought I had first because I could move forward but I was actually in third. You might just want to check the adjustment just to be sure. Jim Yergin
  7. Joe, When this happened to me it turned out to just be a shift linkage adjustment. Do you have first gear or only second and third? If so then it probably is just linkage adjustment. Jim Yergin
  8. The '41 m/c is actually towards the front of the car under the steering column, not under the floor. I wonder if the difficulty in getting to it caused the relocation back under the floor in the later models. Jim Yergin
  9. Joe, Exciting times. I will be anxious to read your updates. I am looking forward to your drive out to my place once you have the car sorted out. Jim
  10. Here are pictures of one I bought off Craig's List Jim Yergin
  11. Joe, If you wanted to check if it is the residual valve, I would think once the brakes were locked, you could crack the line from the brakes into the residual valve and see if they release. Jim Yergin
  12. Today I finished the installation of the 1994 Explorer 10" drums on my rear axle in lieu of the disc brakes. The brakes on my car now work better than ever. It has gone from being a terror to drive to now being a pleasure. I reinstalled the 1" bore master cylinder and replaced the 2lb residual valve in the rear with a 10 lb. Had to modify the lower shock plate under the leaf springs to allow the backing plates to fit. Jim Yergin
  13. On to plan "B". I changed the pedal ratio to what I calculate to be 6.5 to 1. Did not improve the brake performance. In fact it was worse. It appears that it now requires a longer throw. I have decided to take ECI's advice and install Explorer drum brakes on the rear. Went to the salvage yard today and got drum brake backing plates to install the drum brakes. Will let you know the results. Now that I have the car running very well I really want it to stop just as well. Jim Yergin
  14. Joe, Yes it is on Father's Day, June 15. Hope you can make it. Rodney is usually there. I will be in the woodie section. Hope you can make it. Jim Yergin
  15. Looks great Joe. Are you going to make it to Sully? Jim Yergin
  16. Robert, Do you have Explorer rear disc brakes? Jim Yergin
  17. Yes. I am trying to decrease the "Y" distance in the right hand diagram. Jim Yergin
  18. Robert, Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think that will work. The Explorer uses a power assist to create the necessary pressue and the master cylinder bore is over 1". I don't have power assist so that is why I went to a smaller bore master cylinder. Jim Yergin
  19. Here is an update. I installed a 7/8" bore master cylinder. It is for a 1980 Buick Skyhawk. I altered the cover to use with my remote reservoir. Because the piston did not have a deep pocket for the push rod, I had to fabricate a new shorter push rod and a retainer to keep the push rod from falling out of the master cylinder. The braking is much improved and I am pleased with the results. However, I determined that my pedal ratio is 4.5-1. I believe that is too low and should be 6-1 or better. My next project is to try and see if I can increase the ratio and make the brakes perform even better. Jim Yergin
  20. That Harbor Freight transmission jack was one of best tool investment I ever made. Have used multiple times to remove and install my transmission. Don't know what I would do without it. Jim Yergin
  21. Congratulations. Jim Yergin
  22. In fairness to ECI, back when I ordered it they made it clear that they could not guarantee it would work with any set-up except one of theirs.I was reminded of that in my latest call. Jim Yergin
  23. The valve is fully open. What I think I may do is try a master cylinder with a smaller bore, maybe 7/8". My understanding is that a smaller bore increases pressure. Jim Yergin
  24. Marty, When you say "backing the proportioning valve down" do you mean decreasing the flow? Thanks. Jim Yergin
  25. I spoke to ECI. They said the problem is that there is no way to provide enough pressure with my set-up to make the Explorer rear brakes work properly. They said to remove the Explorer rear end and install a Ford axle with drum brakes. Jim Yergin
