  1. Good eye Dale! Like the Norman Rockwell I found awhile ago. 48D
  2. I'll be posting a thread soon. Bob and Jim seem to like the layout for the "Q" and we worked out some ideas, so if feel pretty good about how its shaping up. 48D
  3. Sorry I missed you last week-end Reg, but I can see why now! Very cool. Didn't I see a few like that in your parts yard, or are those different? With all the posts about ebay fraud lately, good idea to see the deal through. 48D p.s. I did a double take on the name...Grandpa's name was Elwood Myers...
  4. Nice! I like the racer orange. I wonder what steering collum that is. 48D
  5. OMG....that's funny. Nice Don. 48D
  6. Original use of the word Rat Rod was for an unfinished Hot Rod. Somewhere in the 80's they became seperate camps. 48D
  7. The debate between Hot Rodders and Rat Rodders is a storied one. I was pointing that out. I subcribe to serveral "rodz" magazines and enjoy thier creations. I read the H.A.M.B. posts. I build race cars, and have a belief system like anyone else. And using a 110 mig on frame constuction ain't one of 'em. IMHO 48D
  8. Rat Rods are often accused of being under buildt, and unsafe...110 on frame work? I'd never trust it. Woodscavenger, the harbour frieght 155v/90amp is perfect for the firewall and patch panels...you'll pick it up fast. 48D I have: 115 Mig/ argon mix Syncro 200 Miller Tig Miller 675 plasma cutter Arch welder
  9. Closer to a counter culture against high dollar "slick" hot rods. The term "Rat Rod" first shows up in print in the early 70's, but only to desribe unfinished hot rods. The "rat rod" gains momentum in the early 80's in the UK. Today's "rat rod culture" is made up of lots of tatto'd men and women who lean towards the punk scene (music), but of course there's always exceptions. The cars are exaggerated, mostly underbuild, rust is appreciated, and cars are primered (or painted to look primered). The 50's "look" is exaggerated too(meaning how people dress/hair). Some claim hot rod artist Robert Williams buildt the first, other say The Low Flyers Hot Rod club of the UK did. Who knows. They keep a lot of old iron out of the hands of the crushers, but traditional hot rodders don't like to see the cars cut down to the point of "no return" (bringing the car back to the oringinal look). 10. Hey chucky07, Mind posting a picture or two? I have yet to pull any sheet metal and would like to see how you did. 48D
  11. One time, I was driving my 68Charger and came across a bunch of swarming mustangs. I just down shifted and blew thier doors off... they ran away. I think I got one stuck in my grille too. lol..... 48D
  12. I have motorcycle frames powdered....but never found a reason to use it for any of my automotive rebuilds. I say, try anything you want, and share what you discover. That's what hotrodders do right? 48D:cool:
  13. I think he might means this stuff Jerry. http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=5594&itemType=PRODUCT&iProductID=5594 48D
  14. Bondo doesn't hold up to 400 deg of heat. Eastwood sells Lab Metal, but most use JB weld cuz its easier to work with. But it sounds like a lot of suface repair and prep that would make it a pricey deal to powder coat. I'd be interested to hear if you try it. Done right, I bet it would look awesome. 48D
  15. whooa...that was fun. Played to long....178:D 48D
  16. I look at it as a fun science project. I have a few cars of my own, that if I left alone long enough someone might bury them! Glad to see the old mopar out of the ground in the hands of someone who's interested in her. Which reminds me...The Pettys buried a bunch of their race cars in the back 40 during "the day"....now there's some mopars I'd like to see dug up.lol. 48D
  17. My rear fenders stop at the box too. Maybe without the big wrap around bumpers you usally see (welded to the rear fenders) you don't notice the length difference? The Kansas Truck has been on ebay before, I remember it. The pictures were in a wooded area and the truck had been in the family for a long time. I think they were asking 10,000 at the time and ened up selling around 5,000. I remember because I was interested in it, but unable to deal cuz Kansas is to far. 48D
  18. Hey Bryan, I might be able to help you out. I live about 35-40 mins from you. I have three 1/2 ton trucks. Going to make make two out of the three. One good one for sure. Two are 48's the other 1950. I'll PM you with a way to get a hold of me. 48D
  19. Thanks Jim. That made it easy to look up. "Construction Crew" The Saturday Evening Post Aug 21, 1954
  20. Looking through some Norman Rockwell Paintings and I think I see a 48 Pilothouse......no idea what year of the painting, it didn't say. kinda cool.
  21. Red and black or some other combo.....to much contrast. Looks like he painted half the truck and left the rest in primer. 48D
  22. yep, I vote for a rebuild. If you plan on beefing up the top, you'll definatley blow out the bottom without a rebuild. Let's talk more about that hemi too. We might workout a trade. : ) 48D
  23. That would be cool Don, if you can't make it this way I'll find you in SF. I PM you some numbers to find me at. 48D:cool:

    Test

I scored 100, but I kept track of how many I guessed on. in other words if they hadn't given me a choice, I wouldn't have come up with the answer. There was quite a few. I agree there was some questions that were, well questionable, but they always say pick "the best answer". 48D
  25. What did you do the first time? Rebuild with Std. bearings etc...or did you have machine work done..ie crank grind, bored cylinders, valve job....I don't remember what you told me. 48d
