  4. I finished the flyer for the BBQ. I don't think its gonna win any awards, but wanted to put it up for review.........is it ready to go out? Any needed changes? Thx everybody. 48D
  5. "Otherwise it might just rot away in some field. It might be the onlt way some of these old Dodges get "saved." " I agree, Rat Rod or not, any interest in using a Pilothouse is a good thing. 48D
  6. I just made "baby boomer status" by being born in 1964. Grandpa drove a White 1968/4 door Coronet 440/383 2bbl dubed the "Christmas car" cuz every Christmas that trunk was loaded! He sold it in 79' to family. I kept an eye on it for a long time and eventually bought it to keep it in "the family". It's a now a RED 383 magnum with plenty of HP. Grandpa never saw the 68 in full retirement (complete with licence plate 68mopwr) but always appreciated my crazy side. In a related story, a guy maybe 38 or so, was part of a delivery crew dropping off my new couch. He noticed my dodge trucks and mentioned he liked dodges. I let them take a look in my shop and he freaked out. "dude, that's my dad's old charger" It was amazing, cuz he ID'd the car from 75 feet away. It was minus trim, in full primer, and old tires and rims for resto work. It looked nothing like it did when I bought it. The only thing that was on it for him to ID'd was the window tint strip on the upper wind shield he put on in the mid 80's as a kid. His first car. I guess the 68 Charger had moved from town to town until it ended up in a bad part of Stockton. Pretty wore out. That's when I bought it. I got lost, passed the car, stopped, knocked on the guys front door, offered him a fair price, I took it home. That moving guy was happy to know his first car had a happy ending. 48D
  7. As always, looking sharp Jim. 48D
  8. Thanks Bob! Nice video. That was a fun day. Calender is on the wall. 48D
  9. lol....no harm Pat, just shows I need to hone my ID skills. My apologies:o 48D
  10. "What gives it away? Everything. It's a totally different car than the Dodge, designed and built by a separate company built on a separate assembly line." Easy now....just a truck guy looking for answers. 48D
  11. What gives it away? 48D
  12. My Grandpa was a Dodge man at heart, but was known to go with the best deal. So he's had many different brands through the years. This picture is dated Jan 23, 1949. The photo is a little washed out, but I think its a 49' D24. Am I wrong? I'd be interested in any info or stories. BTW, my grandparents were the best people ever. 48D
  13. Sounds like you want to O.D..........I say focus on Elbert, get the project where you want it, THEN see where the tower is at. Other than that, get everthing you can out of the deal. JMHO 48D
  14. Well....the nice thing about friends is you may get it back for a pair of hubcaps and a tire jack. How good a "bud" and how good a O.D. are we talkin' here? 48D
  15. Nice post woodscavenger. Its been fun reading your questions and guessing where your at in your project. Can't wait to see some pictures. 48D
  16. Nice! How's she ride? Take her out much? Welcome to the club. 48D
  17. I've been to Reg's shop. Very, very , tidy. I was more than impressed. Fun place to visit! 48D
  18. Nice to hear a happy ending. It just proves what my Auto Guru told me time and time again....."do the tune-up first before replacing the big parts" So Jim....how's the speed? Cruisin' better? Repacking the wheel bearings might get you that 60 mph you been looking for. lol 48D
  19. Couple of years ago I read that 10% of the U.S.'s global was "goods" and 90% was "paper". Meaning the U.S.'s biggest product was handling business on paper. I believe we're turning that over to India now. Didn't I learn in history class that the South lost because of the industrial stength of the North? And didn't I also learn that the U.S., in part, helped win WW2 because of manufactuering competetion ( ie North American vs. Boeing vs. Grumann's) ???? We buildt the best design as much as buildit it out of the best stuff ( ie P-51D, Jeep, and Power Wagon). If China (1.3 billion) or India (1 billion) goes through a political change, or God forbid the U.S. does(310 million).....who holds the real advantage? Nazi Germany couldn't replace its military equipment because of factory lost, Japan lost the best of its pilots and navy at midway months after Pearl Harbor. They couldn't rebuild fast enough with the factories they had. If the time comes, our enemies won't have to bomb our factories, they'll just say we can't use theirs anymore!!
  20. Looks like he had 12.30 for his run. Some tracks require a helmet at 12.99 and roll bars at 11.99. So I'm thinking maybe this guy was wearing a helmet and using standard seat belts and a "racing" style seat. Its possible his steering locked up and broke free causing....well....you saw it. Looked like a fun week-ender ride too, glad he's Ok. 48D
  21. Hey Woodscavenger, I don't know if these would work, but I've looked at'em before and wondered.......hummmmm. What do you think? http://www.deftracing.com/aerocatch_hood_pins/index.htm 48D
  22. Awesome. Nice detail, I imagine it's still in NY. 48D
  23. Sorry Ed. He sounded like a good guy. 48D
  24. So the question seems to be: is moving faster the answer to feeling "safer" on the road..... In my opinion, you have to take into account that saftey wasn't as sophisticated as it is now. They weren't crash testing the B-1-B over 60 miles plus and measuring the results and modifiying the frame, etc.... 1st test dummy wasn't until 1949. Better to think like and engineer and develop the whole project as a 60+ mph truck. 48D http://www.ftss.com/history.cfm
  25. Good eye Dale! Like the Norman Rockwell I found awhile ago. 48D
