  1. No Sun or heat here in the Seattle area-since last year, last summer was cold and sunless too. 2011 is going to be the worst spring summer ever! I want some sun and 90 degree weather!!!!!!!! Send you heat wave here!
  2. If you are using the original MoPar relay, that is a common problem. The points in it or the fuse don't make good contact. Take it apart and clean the contacts.
  3. Could be a solenoid issue-not pushing the pawl in... because it's (solenoid) faulty or no/weak power to it. Electrical trouble is the most common issue with the OD not engaging. I also manually engage the OD pawl ( remove the solenoid first) to test for proper OD operation-out of the car test. And if the rear case is out of oil- The OD won't function. The Planetary/sun gears will be seized up from lack of oil. A shop manual/ OD books for testing/maintaining are a excellent asset to have handy when owning one of these R-10 transmissions. They are very reliable transmissions. I've run them for over 30 years with little trouble. Bob
  4. That selector rod looks kinda bent up a bit. That could be why it's close to the brake pedal. Bob
  5. It's a GM- Kinda looks like a late 30's 40's Olds/ Pontiac.
  6. I, Too am afraid to annoy anyone or spell rong on this forum. Mrs Twink in my 1st grade class scared the hell out of her students to the point they would not participate much in class. She was way too much of a hard *** teacher!
  7. Ed,I posted those pics a year or more ago of a NOS heater fresh air package. Some one else wanted pics of the gaskets/seals.
  8. Here ya go.
  9. Torque converters did not have the TQ lock up feature at least for Chrysler Corp till around 1978 or 1979, and the main purpose was to help MPG. I have a 1952 Hemi NY car with the Fluid Torque Drive- It is such an improvement over the Fluid Drive cars- No comparison even if it was a six! So much more power upon acceleration.
  10. I have both 251's and 265's that I own a have rebuilt-both are/were 4 ring piston engines. I also have sets of NOS MoPar 3-7/16" pistons with the rings factory installed on them -all 4 ring. Never have seen 3 ring MoPar flathead pistons! Learn something every day. Bob
  11. I wonder why they use lockup torque converters today? They should go back to Fluid Drive couplings for better mileage?
  12. That car should have plenty of power for a six and be able to drive at 60 MPH. Rear end ratio is stamped on a small flat pad on the underside of the differential-probably a 3.9 or worse a 4.11. Too low for 60 MPH !
  13. 1952 and later Dodge/Plymouths used a "Follow Through " type Bendix drive. The pinion gear sometimes will be extended as shown-this is normal-seen it lots of times. Leave it as is. When installing an extended drive gear, be careful to index the pinion gear into the ring gear. When the engine starts the pinion gear will be spun back to the retracted position by the faster speed of the ring gear. This is clearly stated in the 1954 Plymouth shop manual. Bob
  14. I can see in the future, to be Eco friendly we will be required to fix all vehicle oil leakage at any costs! Oil leaks can prevent rust on our old car under carriages. That alone is a good thing in the moisture states!.
  15. Rope type rear main seals -if you have one can get dried up and stick to the crank journal where it rides on the crank and get torn up upon start up after long term storage, especially in humid damp conditions. Bob
  16. 1941 Hudson Commander?
  17. Late 1949 and up are two terminal assemblies like yours. Even easier to find!
  18. Think or both the satisfaction of fixing it right yourself and also the $$$ you saved! Excellent work!
  19. Did you lube the throwout bearing sleeve with some Moly grease? The retainer sleeve needs just a slight smear as does the input shaft splines-just the slightest bit.
  20. Be sure to use both ferrous and non-ferrous magnets for both the steel and brass/pot metal parts. Bob
  21. Should be a single wire anti-stall coil. Any DeSoto or Chrysler 1946- middle of 1948 will work. They usually never fail unless the terminal is broken off. Bob
  22. Whoops, And another one I have a few of-- the "PrestoMatic", for the 1949-50 Chryslers.
  23. People back inthe day never understood the Fluid Drive with and with out the M4,5 and and 6, let alone Fluid Torque Drive and still don't today. Fluid Drive, Fluid-Matic, Simpli-Matic, Tip-Toe Shift, Hydraulically Operated ,Vacamatic and on and on and on! Yeah, better have a good E-brake with all of them.
  24. I think 1949 was the 1st "GyroMatic" 2 range hydraulically operated transmission for Dodge. He will have to do it the old way and manually downshift.
  25. Have these on my 1952 1 ton. They are pretty nice chrome dress up on the trucks. I know that they didn't come on the Pilot House Trucks-they should have though. Bob
