  1. You are right Ed! My mistake. When did the "Finger Touch" start?
  2. Fred, Here is a very close to original fuel line on a 47 C38 Windsor. And some more pics off of misc. cars. Fred the 1st pic was off one of my engine jobs for a customer- I can't get anymore shots-the car is gone. These other pics are just web car shots- cannot get a lower shot of the fuel pump area!. Your fuel line should be routed as shown.
  3. The R7 OD trans is the same length as the R10. the 1939 plymouth had an early and late trans-floor shift and the later column shift. Both used a shorter trans than the R7. The shift cover aslo extends over the top of the bell housing. I think the R6 OD is the one trans that can be adapted to work with some mods. Bob
  4. Doesn't the name "Direct Fit" kinda seem to mean... it will fit!!! Marketing today:confused:
  5. If you look on the Data plate on the firewall ( 3" X 5" ) look for "Paint" and under it is your paint code number. Two grays were used on 1946-8 Chryslers.... #7 is a darker "Dove Gray" and "Gunmetal" (lighter gray) was a #8 code. The data plate will also tell upholstry, radio, trim, and other factory installed items. Bob
  6. The push rod issue needs to be a tech sticky-it comes up too often!
  7. Use a 13/16" open end wrench-takes em right off- no damage either. Bob
  8. This all was hashed out a month ago-ya gotta use the correct pins for the wheel cylinders- two sizes a short and a long. Also too thick of lining seems to be a big issue because reliners I suppose don't know the maximum lining thickness spec. Brake shoe arching should always be done to prefit the new shoes to the drum diameter. Anchor pins will need some adjustment too.
  9. Your carb should have the electric solenoid (1 or 2 wire) dashpot on top like this picture. Not a screw with a spring on the carb top-thats for a 3 speed trans with fluid drive car. Bob
  10. A means 2 speed rear axle. X means twin screw or tandem axle.
  11. Same as on my 1952 Dodge truck 2-1/2 tonner 251 engine. Bob
  12. And probably overheat and burn up the odometer bushings!
  13. Hey Fred, With tires being so expensive I too hunted and bought (4) excellent used-the ad says new-but they were somewhat used! ----8.20 X 15 Denmans for $300.00 after some excellent negotiating for my 1950 NewYorker. Denmans are/were a very high end expensive classic tire. I too am very happy and always satisfied on good priced/used items! Saved me a lota $$$ ! Bob
  14. Visor arm 1948-53 Differences
  15. My Toyo Tacoma after 205,000 still has no leaks-lotsa oil changes/good maintenence made this possible.
  16. They all will leak just a small leak-maybe a drip after parking for several hours. The engine should not burn or use any (1 Quart) oil on a good rebuild even after 2500 miles or more. Thats my experience on all mine. But I don't think you can make a flathead leak free like any of the current GM's/Fords or Hondas ect. that are dry as a bone after 100,000 miles and perfectly leak free. Modern technology-quite amazing! Bob
  17. How many people here after 5000 miles have absolute leak free flatheads and will show and be honest about it?
  18. Thats quite a tongue!
  19. I don't think you will ever see a perfect leak free MoPar flathead six- an eight maybe. I've never seen one!

    ooops!

That car will most likely be back on the road. Someone will fix it as the damage kinda looks high and some what soft. Too bad about your wreck.
  21. Well I once tried to do a 1946-8 Chrysler odometer and ended up with this..... I gave up!
  22. Well here is the cap retainer that clamps the caps to the yokes. Did you look at the other end of your driveline to see what it looks like? Sorry no flash for better pic's. Bob
  23. I'll try to help you.....what you have is correct---so far....! Bob
  24. Spur gear trannys are hard to kill. They had a whine when new. New gears--good luck! The gears are probably fine as long as they are not rust pitted and the tips are not broken off-say on 1st/and reverse/and 2nd slider gears ect. Occasionally on ebay as now there are a couple NOS truck trans gears listed. Gotta be careful that they are correct for your model of transmission as they made several differend model changes between 1948-53 trucks. Bob
