  1. Kinda looks like a Buick with an attempt at a LaSalle grill
  2. Who was it that said "90% of the job in 10% of the time and 10% of the job in 90% of the time"? They was right! Seems I've been workin and stressin for days,....and I am no closer to the end!
  3. Try Googling 51 Chrysler rear axle ratio
  4. Two week ago I would have said, yes. However as it usually goes for me, I get distracted with new infatuations. What I've got so far doesn't look too bad and,.... what I have will give the inevitable critics some material to work with
  5. Thank goodness for an extensive inventory of slightly molested U-Bends. Managed to get most of what I needed from the remnants of the 180 degree attempt. Good news too is I'm only into the bank for less than half the cost of the Sandersons so far. -
  6. Another use for toilet paper. The ID of the cardboard tube was exactly the OD of my primary tubes.
  7. Looks great! Hate when I do a bone-head move but after a few hundred, it's less painful and you forget the ones that no one notices if,..... you can resist the temptation to point out your goof.
  8. Decisions, decisions! Discovered that I've fit the engine so precisely that I couldn't lift it enough to clear the ears on the frame, soooo,...fabbed removable frame mounts. And decided since I had so much header material that I should use what I have and re-direct the effort to a more traditional exhaust system. Tri-Ys are the goal and you see a half a day's work.
  9. The Grand Header Plan is on hold! Can't see the solution within the time I have. #+?@*/ And I got the quickest turn around on Sanderson Headers via Summit (3 days) only to discover they'd have to be modified too. Soooo,......the next dilemma is to decide whether to modify the Sandersons or build a more traditional set from my extensive inventory of scrap mandrel bends. In the meantime I can work on the firewall, engine mounts, brake, fuel and coolant plumbing, wiring and bolting on the front suspension. Makes me tired just thinking about that! - -
  10. You are waaaay too modest. I think you are a car guy!
  11. Engine and trans are done. Took back 1" from the toe board as previously mentioned. - - - Today and this weekend is engine mounts and soul searching. I am determined to drive the car to an event 400 miles distant the third week in Aug. It'll be a test run and tune prior to a 3K mile trip in Oct. And,.......I am currently "stumped" on how to get that "box of snakes" stuffed inside the rails and terminated into one pipe (on each side) at the firewall. It'll require a lot of head scratching over the next few days and I am getting nervous about pulling it of, with all the other tasks, in the time I have. I may have to bail on the Grand Header Plan and buy something. I need to decide this weekend . Stay tuned..........
  12. That was awesome. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Test fit of the new engine. It's moved forward 1" relative to the other engine. No "oh sh**ts"! 'tho it was tight. - I'm going to take back 3/4 of that inch by trimming about 1" from the toe board hip seen adjacent to the right cylinder head where there is now only about 1/4" of space. Nothing emerged outside of the fudge factor I allowed. Gives me more comfortable clearance in several places. The engine is back out now and the the trans and radiator are off to their respective shops for refresh.
  14. I have read all the responses to your query and see, as I hope you do, a consensus. I would especially endorse the thoughts: "Why doesn't Dad just give his daughter the car?" "Four doors are the least popular models." "people who have owned cars for a long time tend to be mistaken about their value.", "$500-$1000" "Do you like it. Can you afford it?" If Dad needs the money why not give or loan him what he needs, take the car out of the equation and save the potential for bad feelings later on.
  15. And another thought,......short of finding good photos of the various handle options, consider looking into any late 30's early 40's Ford cars or trucks for ideas. All that hardware has the same interface as Mopar. The hardware styling for cars of that era is all pretty similar as that was what was popular at the time.
  16. There was a 40 recently for sale here in OC Calif. for $65K. A nice but well used restoration. I'd be surprised if it would fetch $50K
  17. Here you go,......... - I thought these worked particularly well for my P15. Part #s are 01A-702400 for the door handle, 01A-702780 for the window crank and 01A-48139-SS for the escutcheon. Manufacturer is Vintique Inc. There web site is "underconstruction" so good luck finding photographs which you really need to decipher diff. details. There are many style options from 38 to 41 Ford standard, delux and truck. I was able to view them all on a POP display. All would work mechanically. Vintique product is carried by every Ford resto parts source like Bob Drake, Dennis Carpenter, Sacramento Vintage Ford, et al. I'm sure you will find frustration in trying to find photo images to help you make appearance decisions. Good luck!
  18. I've got the full set of Ford handles and window cranks for my '48. Haven't installed them yet. I'd do pics and PN if you wish. There are several options between 40's models, standard/delux and car/truck.
  19. Discs on the front are an easy modification and only a little more work than getting the stock setup refurbished (which you should do anyway). If you end up driving the car much, maintaining the discs will be easier. And, why not "hot wire" the car or buy and install a new ignition switch, anything will do, just to get the car mobile while you're conceiving a plan of what to do.
  20. Good job! I also like the cars I see in the background. Variety is the spice,.....right?
  21. Cool!.......Now get the adapter to the GM 5 spd and you gotta real Hot Rod.
  22. Really a nice gift from father-in-law's estate. You sure have a winner. I have the same car and you'll be surprised at how many folks will approach you with a story about "when they were kids". Congratulations and keep us posted.
  23. Forgive me for not reading your earlier posts to find the answer to my questions,.... "stock steering?", "engine off-set?" I'm thinking you'll need to do the off-set with a big block and stock steering. I struggled with that and the dilemma festered until I used it to rationalize a new front susp. I'm pleased that I did. However, it took me several years longer to resolve because of the way I work my proclivity for over thinking
  24. Old suspension is gone. New stuff, including Lincoln brakes, are on the bench. - I'm going to try to keep the natural metallic look of many of the new, and some old parts, to contrast with the black.
