  1. absolutely! got any pics of the process?
  2. This in response to fstfish66 query, 'tho I may have posted it before,.....I forget . Started with a piece of 1" sq aluminum tube. Knocked the corners off and cut the slots on the table saw. I may have a few more pics and/or ask me questions if you're interested. - -
  3. Made mine starting with a piece of square alum. tube. Check OT Forum, the new "DYI fabrication" thread.
  4. Whadda great start to this thread. Who's next?
  5. One of the things that's particularly satisfying for me is fabricating a part that I cannot otherwise find or does not exist in the real world. Sometimes it a special tool or fixture. They are usually smallish and involve fabricating something by hand to look like a production piece. Often it involves "re-purposing" something that already exists. Many of us do that as a routine. However, there are some of our fraternity who might learn something or be inspired to stretch their view of what might be achievable with a little ingenuity and encouragement. There are many of these little "nuggets" of inspiration buried in many of our threads,.... i.e. 40plyrod's "lower grill trim piece". Some may recall my wrench turned pitman arm (on the Hemi Build thread). Normally associated with a specific project thread, they might also apply to, or serve as inspiration for, any number of other subjects. Here's a start. I found a neat little tank that I wanted to use as an overflow reservoir. This is the special bracket that was made to mount it. - - -
  6. I'm in after the Holidays. Why not meet, then a short drive to see our cars together on the road, and then have lunch.
  7. And the way I work is,....I stress about an imperfection only until I create another. That way I always have a new excuse for aggravation.
  8. Hey Chris, Great commentary! That all makes perfect sense and provides, for those of us who are learning, an explanation for why our struggles for new skills are so daunting. I also characterize it as "getting all the bad sh*#t out of the way before achieving satisfying results". That, along with constructive comments such as yours, is how we learn.
  9. Apologies if this posting is the wrong place. Moderator feel free to relocate it. Ironically after helping my friend bring home his nearly finished 40 Woody, I stumbled upon this at the local Long Beach Swap Meet. Owner is discouraged at response. I encouraged him to join our forum and post it in the classifieds. Appears to be a pretty driveable car. I would be happy to find out more. The car is local.
  10. Would you kindly post a pic of the "shrinking hammer" with the offending dent, for scale of both? Tx ............... what a sweet collection of profound statements!!!! We'd all do well to embrace or, at least, respect them. You ARE a teacher.
  11. Those little projects are very satisfying, eh?
  12. Pics are on page #8 of "from the driver's seat and other images" And here's a wrap on the Hemi,........ Trip, 3K miles, went pretty much w/o a hitch except for the new electric fuel pump failure. Not bad for a new build ,..and by an amateur at that. I'm pleased and relieved that it held together. Since returning home it is now running on all three carbs. Still tight but up to 15 mpg after 3 oil changes and 4K miles. Part of the Roadster Refresh was also the conversion to cowl steering. That works pretty well too 'tho I'm the first to say it makes no sense, except.......for the cool factor. Since the cowl steering project is so far Off Topic for this forum I have recorded documentation of it on the HAMB for any who may be interested. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/cowl-steering-first-time.996254/
  13. Was right in my backyard. Probably 6-7 miles from the house.
  14. Cruise was Saturday. Today I helped my friend Jim (mostly moral support) bring his Woody home from the wood shop. - - - -
  15. A bit off our favorite marque but for those who enjoy the cruise,.....and now that the Roadster is reliable - - more,..........http://smg.photobucket.com/user/wstory/slideshow/Aces%202015?sort=2
  16. Nothin like adjustable horizontal storage! I store stuff on every horizontal surface in sight in my garage until it starts to slide off. Then I spend a day cleaning up and gettin organized. I'll never learn!
  17. I like the 440. 441 doesn't mean anything. And a Patina Plate fits the car.
  18. Interesting, I just looked that up for a friend, for his Plymouth Suburban. It's a U.S. Radiator (made in LA) and I got it from Rick's Radiator in Azusa. It's aluminum for a 48-54 Chev truck w/350 V8. Rick does the Long Beach (and maybe Pomona) Swap. It's a good piece, all welded, not glued together. You can get a copper/brass equivalent also.
  19. We did have a little "weather" on the Oregon coast. - -
  20. 40 guys,....only 28 cars but it was still an impressive traveling car show!
  21. The 4th Annual CanAm Curmudgeons Cruise is "in the books". We had 40 Canucks and Yanks in cool cars for a week long blast drinking beer, kickin tires and givin each other carp. All covered about 3K miles, meeting in No. Calif, drivin up the Oregon coast, East along the Columbia River and South to Grant's Pass where we went our separate ways home. The Hemi performed without a hitch except,....the new electric fuel pump failed. Just an hour patching-in another's spare and we were on our way. Life is good. More pics for those who are interested @ http://smg.photobucket.com/user/wstory/library/Curmudgeon%202015%20Cruise?sort=9&page=1 - - - - - - -
  22. Maybe,.......some day! Finally got the car where I am reasonably confident I won't die in it. Leaving in the morning for almost a 3K mile round trip. Meeting a buncha Canucks in NoCal then touring the Oregon coast, Columbia River Gorge, the Redwoods and Big Sur. Be back online in about 10 days
