  1. For what it's worth, I did exactly that in my first generation of mods i.e. Fatman disk conversion. Worked very well.
  2. Forget Helix. I assume in your research you found them to be the cheapest. My limited experience sees them as really cheap,.. cheaply made and requiring lots of extra and creative modifying to make them fit as advertised. Customer service sucked too. I'm surprised to see that Heidts makes a kit but if they do, they're a quality outfit and I would have comfort buying from them. Waaaay back I installed Fatman's spindles and brakes, and but for the machining you mentioned it was a no-brainer,....even using the stock suspension, M/C and steering. A neighbor opted for the Fatman "clip",...more money but you're also paying for new brakes, steering and suspension. It is a solid product and a good value in my opinion. - Sometimes the hardest part is making the decision. Good luck and keep us posted.
  3. That's a great looking piece. I'm now on the hunt for a piece of track.
  4. Oak at one time made his living as a Rock 'n' Roll drummer. In more recent years he worked in the film industry. And more recently he has added video recording to his passions of Hot Rods and music. The 34 Plymouth you see on his avatar is the car he takes on all our long haul trips. If you check his other videos, you'll see more of the Plymouth(s),...his and mine, as well as other car and music related stuff.
  5. The dimension per your red arrow is 14". Now that I read your post again I understand your visualization. However, unless I'm missing something, I'm thinkin you'll have a fuel sending unit issue. Understanding and agreeing with your vision of the pipes being closer to the center, check out the wagon I no longer own. In order to do that, I skirted the tank on each side and did a 90 degree bend toward the center, behind the tank, and attached, essentially a manifold that connected the two. Off that manifold that runs parallel with and behind the bumper I put the four tips as I had always envisioned them. Ya, ya,....before everyone jumps in with comments about reducing the efficiency of the exhaust system, I know that! But, in my opinion it sure looks cool, it sounds great and I've never had any regrets.
  6. I like the patina. I have a '40 Plymouth that looks exactly like that. However,...to your subject, I completely redid a 48 Plymouth, frame off, starting some years ago. It was my first major project and the result you can see elsewhere on this forum. I'm just an average guy ('tho accused of being waaay anal) of modest means with average skills and a few nice tools. I found that one can do just about anything with an occasional hand and/or advice,....often from this forum. I'm very proud of the result and it's given me courage to imagine even more ambitious projects. What became a very important tool for me was a digital camera. I used it to record the dis-assembly of everything. I organized files to store them in the computer. The images, recorded years ago, were/are important records to refer to upon reassembly because as much as I believed I could remember all the details,...I couldn't. Also those images allowed me to illustrate questions to this forum's members and to graphically respond or others questions. (See "dual exhaust,....." thread for an example) This is a great forum. You will get a lot of help (and opinion ) Good luck with your D14. And,....get a camera
  7. Boy, that's a long shot. Can't imagine you could get that tank anyway near low enough. I'll measure in the morning and get back.
  8. Jack the whole thing up about a foot or so, slide in a coupla little stub walls under the rocker panels and drop the frame. The body is very rigid. I could easily open and close the doors while it was sitting like this.
  9. Boy, what an eye. One sure has to be careful with posting on this site. They are little vinyl caps, dunno from where, that I put to keep the metal part of the wiper blade from scratching the SS trim.
  10. Hot Rod and Vintage Airplane Cruise-In & BBQ..........January 2014 - -
  11. Like a train wreck,.....ya don't wanna look, but ya gotta!
  12. Apparently the whole later model Poly thing went right past me. 1960 was about the time I was looking at other things like school, a job and a family. The differentiation between "sculpted" and "saw tooth" is something I've never seen or heard 'tho it is very appropriate. I have always gotten a kick outta folks looking at my engine and thinking my it was a 348/409 Chev. or a Studebaker. A few folks have recognized mine as a Plymouth while my valve covers actually came off a '56 315 Dodge that I converted to a 325 Hemi. changed my mind about responding on Plymouth's comment but couldn't figger how to delete the "quote" box
  13. Here is a more comprehensive video of the event and the characters that made it special. My friend, Oak O'Connor culled this from his three cameras that ran for almost an hour. The shenanigans and comments both before and after ignition, where what made it special. I am very fortunate. Thank you Oak.
  14. It will go in the Roadster this Winter along with a few modifications,.....to the Roadster, like headers, a cowl vent and maybe revised steering.
  15. I'm learnin stuff every day. In the case of the Polys, I'll learn by osmosis as opposed to actual study as my limited brain is currently occupied by the Hemi and doing all I can to make that a successful venture. I know the 318 Poly is an entirely diff. engine than the 315. Did it evolve into larger displacements as most engines did?
  16. Yes but, one guy now only has halfa mustache.
  17. Perhaps,...I was too wound up to notice.
  18. "The following video is for evidentiary purposes only" I made a mistake,.....thought I was wrong but,.....I was right. No fire on first attempt. Committee observation was timing was off by 180 degrees (the mistake). Reset dist. and no fire and no backfires,......hmmmm????? Checked TDC and timing again and decided original setting was correct. Big audience! Dumped 1/4 cup of fuel in the carb and vroom!!!! It's alive! A more comprehensive video of the event via multiple cameras will be available ,..........in time.
  19. Could be! Film at 7:00
  20. Guess I got egg,....even omelet on my face. Glad no one stepped up to the bet ahead of time. However, some please help me see my error. Those sure don't look like Poly valve covers to me. What am I missing?
  21. I bet not. I'd bet $100.00 but not sure enough to bet $1000.00 Offenhauser would be the likely source if any were even made.
  22. Here 'tis ready to fire in the am. Thankfully found a bad electronic module this afternoon. I'm stoked and a little nervous!
