  6. Always wanted one of them, M-37's are pretty common actually, ive seen more of them than our pilothouses!
  7. Have any more pics of the process and maybe a completed product? I've been wanting to do this to my truck caps, but never really thought about this way
  8. Really if it is working at all then it couldn't be reassembled wrong, otherwise you couldnt shift either into or out of gear. perhaps you dinged something in the transmission or got some dirt in it on reassembly?
  9. It's not so bad, may not be stock but mine ain't either, and mine's a heck of a lot uglier! The 185 HP can't be right, pretty sure even the OHV conversion won't even put out that much power!
  10. Okay, I have obtained a pair of holley 1904 visi-bowls, now those may be a step in the right direction if I can do a blow-through design. Or do a draw through and use a more tune-able carb

  14. That is interesting, I would have never figured these carbs would be at all effective. Expecially with the accelerator pump situation. Wonder how well that actually works?
  15. Depends on what you are trying to do. Gotta figure, every heavy diesel truck built since the 70's has a huge turbo diesel, with a torque curve much like ours. They make large amounts of torque due to the extra air, our little flatheads are no different. And besides, why not build it? A turbo is more efficient than a supercharger anyway, the only perk to a supercharger is no turbo lag.
  16. Darnit! I was just home last weekend taking the truck to Fall Harvest Days in Union Grove! well this weekend is a "headed up north to dick around with old camper" weekend, but one of these days!
  17. I'm back at school again, time to daydream about the truck while I'm gone! So I have a turbo from an old subaru laying around, I was wondering if anybody successfully made their flatty run a turbo? I saw one on youtube, 1950 plymouth I think? But the search feature here yielded little more than somebody on ebay trying to make an original carb into blow-through. I was almost thinking an industrial-style manifold with the bolt on exhaust flange up front and set up for an updraft carburetor would work nicely, if I could find one around here! the turbo could bolt straight to the manifold there and make the plumbing easy, just have to add a carburetor. So does anybody else have any suggestions/comments? -Josh
  18. May not be toast just yet! Try a product called evapo-rust. Believe it or not the stuff actually works very well, just srape off the heavy crap and leave it to soak, comes out like new metal and has no acids in it.   20. If you have any interest in putting a box and plow on it, I have a buddy with a 46? Ford 4x4, still has plow and everything! Ive been wanting the running gear from it, but the plow could be good for you
  21. Do you have any pics of the drivetrain and all the mods done to it? I normally don't care for big modified trucks like this, I see em everywhere running around town and you can tell theyve never seen a spec of dirt! but this looks like a 3rd party modification, judging by the plow lights and how it sits. Could have fun with it with a giant motor, if the thing is a grease monkey special. If it was built for a reason, build it something close to that, like use a Cummins, or perhaps even get bit by the two-smoke bug like me and go detroit diesel! If you want something more useful, could drop it down a bit and use newer 22.5" or 24" semi wheels with some aggressive treads. Either way, looks like a great start to something interesting to me! Keep us posted! -Josh PS- I know where there is a nice big Detroit 8v71 sitting in a semi over here, perfect if ya like to turn some heads!
  22. Same here! but if someone dropped $3500 cash, I'd take it and go build another with the moneys, and then someone will buy that pile, and so the cycle continues!
  23. I know exactly the problem you are having, minus the seat! The trick I generally would use is to put the trans in a gear requiring the stick be forward, and put a little tension on the gears to keep them in check. that should do it
  24. Normally the pickup gets 50/50 with tapwater. But the 41' runs plain filtered pond water (it's all we got!) and when it overheated once swamp water had to do it!
  25. Interesting... I am pretty sure this is the correct starter, it matches the one in the parts manual. It just seems like the bendix was sliding forward and back, there was nothing to hold it one way or another. It looks like the contact box is supposed to do that, but my spring isn't long enough to do the job, so a short tension spring seems to do the job pretty well so far. lets see once we get it back up and running!
