  1. The thing likely came from the excavating company next door, they are VERY well known for pitching out perfectly good equipment. the yard doesn't really have a use for this kind of engine, and it is right next to a few other power units. You are probably right, but I'm not just going to walk away for that, cant hurt to take a look!
  2. Time for another odd idea, has anybody done any playing with putting a Cummins 6BT in a truck? Just curious, the local scrapyard has one in the scrap pile and they don't seem to know what they have, and I have a big truck that I think could use some more motor...
  3. ah, well since it is about 3 hours out, progress is rather slow for now. when things actually dry up out there, then it will be moved over to our cabin and work can actually start!
  4. I actually plan to almost completely rebuild that trailer. Being in northern Wisconsin requires a ton of insulation and a metal belly, and it has niether yet. So it will get all new wiring, gas plumbing, and insulation. And rather than match the truck, which I think looks a little cheesy, it will have a black roof and a roayal blue body. Should contrast a green/black truck nicely, dont ya think?
  5. Well, I have been doing alot of thinking lately, and the 41' really is not a particularly useful vehicle. it lacks windows, good doors/cab, brakes, good tires, the list goes on and on. So rather than try and use another chassis, where the only thing I could use is the front clip, Maybe i will sell her to a friend of mine. He has a 47-49' IH K11 that was driven to where it sits. That could be a better toy, does anybody know anything about them? I think it has a red diamond 450 under the hood and it was a road tractor. -Josh
  6. Welcome to the site man, If modifieds werent allowed then what the heck is the point of a bunch of the exact same vehicles? mine is only mildly modded for work and driveability, but the next one... anyways we would love to see pics!
  7. Good news everyone! We went to check out the camper som more this weekend, and for those of you that feel like bashing it dont even start. We got some more pictures, it is a rebuilder for sure. but on the positive it's frame is pristine! no rust, and the wood looks like somebody just installed it. It is a single axle, rather hard to see it in those pics from the leaves accumulated under it, but the wheels look good too. Since it is a single axle, it should be in the 3000 lbs or less range, and theres no bathroom or anything heavy, and being that big I would think it would have brakes. if not, its gettin em! So now comes the question, will the truck have enough snot to pull it around on the 55 roads, or am I going to have to do a little frankensteining? Heres a small album of it before the guy cleaned it out, it is MUCH better now. (and it looks better on it's own wheels too...) http://s1113.photobucket.com/user/4153dodges/library/Camper%20until%20i%20know%20what%20it%20is?sort=3&page=1
  8. I went to picknpull and picked up the back bench seat out of an 80's GM , either a van or suburban I think? Anyhow, they have legs on them and seatbelts bolted to their frame. If you take off the legs, it will literally slide perfectly into the old frame that would have held a PH seat. only issue, it is about 1-2" too narrow, so it can slide a bit -Josh
  9. I think it is a good looking truck, heck of a lot better than mine when I got it! by far the most difficult part is the body stuff, and thats nothing!
  10. this is true, but it takes much more energy to draw vacuum than push air. so the effect would be lessened in a blown system. still an issue, but still much better than the old carter even in a naturally aspirated situation.
  11. Originally I was planning to just use a 2 barrel and a draw through set up, buts space constrictions got in the way. Really any decent carb between 3-400 cfm would be good
  12. Naturally aspirated I think it would be totally useless! But using a holley 2300 with a turbo may achieve some results. That would be a big choke down point, but the 2 barrel is required to handle the turbo and the extre air. A single barrel would be great, but cant find one turbo worthy
  13. Chances are the search feature would be more helpful if it would search the word two, but it won't, So here I am. Has anybody successfully converted their flathead to run a two barrel carburetor using the stock manifold? The two barrel manifolds seem to be a pain to obtain, so this is my next best shot.
  14. Thanks for the offer, but mine actually still has a full interior, everything but mattresses and such! seems to have gas/electric lighting. Really the chassis and floor are remarkably solid even by new standards.
  15. Never had radio, and that bracket is under the front driver corner of the bed! perhaps for some kind of tie down hook?
  16. Alright, it is a Westwood Coronado camper, only made for 3 years. now for those of you with no imagination, it is actually in very good contition inside. the axle is under it, and a new one would roll right in from northern tool if it need it, and it probably will.
  17. There is a bracket on the 53 I cant figure out, it is riveted to the frame and looks factory. Anybod know what it was for?
  18. well i know what it is now, but i think i will have some fun with this one! edit: in other words, keep guessing! for all I know, somebody else knoew something different from me for that matter!
  19. Well guys, for those of you who answered one of my previous threads on pulling a camper with the truck, I finally pulled the trigger! Only problem is, what the heck is it? it might be in tough shape and perhaps too big for the pickup, but really who is going to complain for what I paid (take a guess if you dare! ) anyways, any help to figure this out would be greatly appreciated! -Josh
  20. had an 83' honda shadow 500, 71' kawasaki F8 enduro (AKA Fubar) and now I have an 82' Sabre 750 I really want to get the 1100 though...
  21. Good news everyone, The beast actually runs! Now maybe if I can get the owner again I can grab it! Perhaps once I figure out the photo thing on here you can have a picture...
  22. alright, so if I need more gears it sounds like the column shifter goes bye-bye. darn, i kinda like that thing. oh well, sounds like a T18 may be the best option simply beacuse it is available.
  23. So my owner's manual is a tad foggy here, did our trucks have a four speed column or am I just reading the manual wrong? if the 53' had a four speed, would it have a stick and a floor parking brake?
  24. That is exactly what it looked like! this one is all full of lumber, but all the carnival equipment appears to still be in it!
  25. We were searching around town here today, and ran across an old delivery truck sitting in the weeds at a dealership. turns out, the thing is a Marmon-Herrington Delivr-All. according to somebody on Hemmings, there are only 6 known to still exist! does anybody know about these things at all? google renders little help, but maybe I can get some pics later!
