Has anyone ever had to deal with a aggressive neighbor?
knuckleharley replied to classiccarjack's topic in Off Topic (OT)
Some people are just not happy unless they are unhappy. The only solution to this is to offer to provide them a level of unhappy they can't live with, but this only works if it's obvious you mean it. You can start with calling the law on them for any real or imagined errors they made, and escalate as needed. If for whatever reasons you can't bring it up to a level where he either stops harassing you or you can't pressure him enough to make him sell out and move, your only two options are to either live with it or sell out and move yourself. Life is too short to allow yourself to become stressed out every day.- 151 replies

The "as found" photos were unbelievable. The original owner obviously loved and took care of that car. I also loved the restored ambulance. Is it English?

You don't need luck. You already have good fortune. When counting up the pluses and considering income, don't forget to include the money you save from not having to drive to and from work 2 days a week, plus the maintenance and wear and tear on your car.

Politics are banned on the off-topic board????? Why even bother to have one? After all, politics dominate all our lives in practically every area you can think of.

I freaking LOVED watching Alfred Hitchcock Presents when I was a kid,and recently wanted them all again on local broadcast tv. He would walk out on the stage and say "Good Evening" and I would start cracking up. Most 50's tv sucks, and we only thought it was good because we had nothing to compare it to,but shows like his and Groucho Marx "You Bet Your Life" will still be great 100 years from now.

So,a 428 Cobra Jet Mustang would be irony?

Teaching a 13 year old boy the value and rewards of work and sticking with something until it is finished is a priceless gift to him. Seems to me most kids these days don't want to work when they get out of school because they have never been made to work before, and have heard nothing but negative things about work their whole lives. I think most of us will agree that the world needs people with mechanical skills and interests more than it needs more 18 year olds who are "too smart to do physical work because I am going to become a millionaire from designing computer games". Most of whom will end up saying "Will there by fries with that?" before it's over.

Code enforcement issues? Please elaborate so the rest of us will know what to be on the lookout for. -
Ahhh, the perfect getting in the way of the practical! It's a old sad,sad story that most of us are familiar with. We all start out with stars in our eyes, but those of us who weren't born into cubic money end up having to face the reality in the end that states "No matter how pretty it is,it's junk if you can't drive it."

Lucky man! The first car I ever bought with my own money that I got to drive was a 1938 Chrysler Royal, but mine was a 4 dr sedan. Not the sexiest vehicle for a 14 year old boy,but it was only 20 bucks and it was hard to earn money as a summer laborer around construction sites in the early 60's. With the help of an older cousin I got the valves unstuck so it would run,and it ran perfectly. Even the radio played. One owner car bought new by a woman that died and left it to her nephew, who had no interest in it and left it parked outside. The upholstery was even perfect. It ran so good my father sold it while I was away from home visiting friends one weekend, and kept the money.

LOVE it! Not everything needs to be restored or modified, and seeing basically stock unrestored cars being drive around will probably inspire some people to look for their own old cars to fix as "drivers". People that just have a casual interest in old cars are intimidated by the complexity, expense, and time of a restoration, but showing them it's ok to just put one back on the road without spending tens of thousands on a restoration is ok,too. Plus, even some people that might prefer a restoration just don't have the tools, the time, the experience,or even a place to work with the room needed to do a restoration may even come to understand a presentable,if not perfect, car you can drive beats the hell out of something you MIGHT be able to drive several years from now if everything goes perfectly. AND....,IMNSHO,it's driver cars that people see running around locally on trips to the store, etc, etc, etc that pulls new blood into the hobby, not show cars at car shows. People that go to car shows are already interested in old cars.

Anyone know of someone that casts plastics?
knuckleharley replied to casper50's topic in P15-D24 Forum
I don't know if this would work or not,but if there are any colleges or universities near you,pay a visit to their engineering dept and see if they will get a student to do it for you as a project. -
Do you do graphic design professionally? If not,you could.

Make sure you replace the brake lines, the brake hoses, and the wheel cylinders. This isn't the place to cut corners. Seriously nice score, though.

Let's see, here. Very pretty young redheaded woman driving a old car. Gee,I wonder if there will be any late teen/early 20's males developing a sudden interest in old cars? -

Some people, by nature, just ain't happy unless everyone wears red and marches in a straight line. It's emotional, and no amount of reason will ever sway them. These are the same people that organize and join Homeowners Association Boards so they can regulate what size and color trashcans everybody else uses, and they just LOVE zoning laws. Anyone that deviates in any way from their narrow-minded viewpoints is their natural enemy and needs to be punished. -

I know this is off-topic so I hesitate to respond, but weren't the gun ships the only C-47's still flying in the 60's? Maybe it would be better for anyone interested in this conversation to send me PM's? -

The old "flying boxcars" of the 50's were called out of the reserves, and the first to be modified into gun ships. IIRC,it's call sign was "spooky". It was slowly replaced by the C-130 gunships as the old C-47's wore out. I knew the C-130 call sign 30 minutes ago,but can't remember it now for the life of me. The 130's even had a 105mm cannon they fired out the tailgate, and they fired both cannister and HE rounds. If you have never seen either working at night, you missed a magic show. If you are on a hilltop and they are shooting around you,you can actually FEEL the ground vibrate from all the hits. -

No doubt about the Mopar suspension being superior. Not in my mind, anyway. The torsion bar suspension was superior, too. The problems arise when Mopar went Unibody, and there was no chassis to swap to. Ford and GM retained a chassis and suspension ;arge enough in the 70's and early 80's that could be used with the older bodies. I have no interest in doing such a swap because I prefer the ride and feel of the older cars, but if someone wants to put his 50 Chysler body with the rusted out chassis on a 72 or later LTD chassis, that's his right. It will still look like a 50 Chrysler running down the road, and maybe inspire someone who sees it to find his own 50 Chrysler to fix and drive, and not even know the one he had seen just had a Chrysler body. -

I honestly can't think of a thing I don't love about 30's to 60's cars. I love the way they look, the way the seats sit, their reliability and how easy they are to fix when something does go wrong. Most of all,I love the big steering wheels with the stylish horn rights, the dashboards with all the attention to detail and the art deco look, and probably most of all,the way that mohair interior smells when the car has been sitting with the windows rolled up. It all brings back good memories. For me,new stuff are just tools. I have a new truck because I live almost 70 miles from the closest VA hospital, and at times I have to drive there and back a couple of times a week. I also have it because I live up a dirt road and refuse to drive my old cars when it's raining and get caked up mud under them. Don't care if the mud cakes up on the new truck or not. Being an Agent Orange vet, there are also times when I have infections and need to drive something with air-conditioning,so the new truck comes in handy for those times, too. I mostly just roll down the windows and drive the old ones in the summer, though. -

Any time you can just start one up and drive it home,it's a victory.
