  1. Any quick tips tricks on removing the doghouse? Whether it's in one piece, or seperate, I'm alright either way. Just want some places to look before I get working on it over the next couple days. Basically, where are all the bolts, or anything else I need to remove the front end and fenders.....
  2. How's it going? Been a while since I updated anything here... A couple months back, we moved into a new place, where I actually got my own 2 car garage all to myself (I told the wife I need the second bay for parts haha). So, this past week, I have beginning teardown... and one thing I am quickly finding.... RUST!!!! I'm really worried about it, and really hoping it's fixable. I don't have any good pictures of it at the moment, but I will try over the next few days as I start updating progress again. As for how it sits now, I have the hood off, and most of the interior stripped. I am having a HELL of a time with 2 bolts in the front seat. I was getting aggravated at it today, so I am going back at it tomorrow. One of the two is almost out, spins freely, but won't release, so I gotta really figure that one out. The other is just in a tight spot, so gotta just squeeze in and get it. Here she is going into her current home: My goal is over the next couple weeks to get the doghouse removed, so I can start stripping out the engine bay. Any tips, tricks? Easy way's to get the fenders off? Here is how it sits at the moment:

  4. Got those pins out and removed the bellhousing, clutch, and flywheel Stripped the engine of all of the accessories except for the exhaust and intake manifolds (Pain in the @$$ to get to all the studs!) Pics of the water holes at the thermostat and water pump... I've seen much worse
  5. So you are saying if I get those 2 steel pins out, the bellhousing will come off so I can remove the rest? How do I go about removing them?
  6. The original plan was to seperate these bolts attaching the clutch to the flywheel, then remove the flywheel bolts and remove it all, but in order to do that, I need the engine to turn over. Pic of the trans: Also, I already pulled this piece out of the bellhousing already:
  7. Here is what I have with the bellhousing: All the bolts should be out: I can get the bellhousing seperated from the block about 1/4". You can see these 2 small pins in between the 2: View from the backside of the bellhousing:
  8. Honestly, I have no idea what pins you are talking about... I will look and see what I can find. I'm not a transmission guy at all lol. This engine came out of a 1-Ton, so it is a manual trans with the shifter on the floor. Any help in guiding me in the right direction would be much appreciated! Also, anyone have any idea of the massive socket size for the nut on the crank pulley?
  9. Alright, so we got the motor in the garage. We tried seperating it from the transmission so it could go up on the stand with only partial luck. We got the transmission off, but cannot get the bellhousing off because the flywheel and clutch will not spin to unbolt it all. So not my next step is start a basic teardown (get the accessiories off and remove the head and start soaking the pistons with PB Blast to hopefully free it up). From there, I can remove the rest of the trans and get it up on the stand to finish the rest of the teardown. Here's the pics I have so far:

That's really funny! Semper Fi! I would love to go more of a hot rod, but at the moment, the funds aren't there to go all crazy. Not gonna lie, I would LOVE to throw a 6BT under there and call it a day, but for the moment, it's going to have to stay a flathead. Thanks a lot! I can't wait to get her going again!
  12. I am a law enforcement officer in a small town in Ohio. I also run my own Amsoil business doing most of my business with pickups and diesels. I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps stationed in New Orleans from 2007-2011 as well. Seems there are a lot of retired guys on here, well, I'm one of the young ones, and just getting started out!
  13. I know it's been a while, and it will probably still be a few months before we can start a teardown, but I do have a couple updates! I picked up a set of Ohio 1948 license plates to run on the car once she is one the road. It's small, but exciting! Also, and probably a little more importantly... I have a friend of a friend who picked up a 1950 Dodge Truck. It has the flathead 6 in it. Well, his plan is to replace it with a small block Chevy and was going to scrap the old engine. I told him I would give him $50 for it and he took it! I have yet to pick it up, or even see it, but plan to in the next couple weeks. Did I get a good deal? What engine should it be? The same 218 like in my P15? Or something else? Here's the truck it's coming out of:
