  1. I thought I'd beat you to the punch on at least one post....I gotta admit big guy..you take the ribbing very well.... I will some day have a roll around high amp charger for boosting batteries..had a quick booster smaller charger and let my daughter borrow it..well it went missing from their apartment complex storage area...like I am surprised to hear that...dad's out his good charger...I got a good 12 volt battery today for 150.00..the packaging was the main cost...wrapped in white...
  2. I have never even though about trying to pull a greased string from any a$$..who are you guys?
  3. Don...when you have kids and often a wife or two that are not what you call real keen on turning off headlights...well..cable are nice..plus I often time need them here on the place with various other cars that how we say don't get driven but once or twice a year...nuff said plus I even have a special set made for on the road with the motorcycles..so YES..about 5 sets...now NOrm..I know he don't..and if he did they only need to be a couple feet long..(short driveway)
  4. Oh no the dreaded compression debate on closed throttle/WOT..think it has been pretty much found that it is basically irrelevant on these engines...both yield same reading per past examples...however ..WOT is the prescribed method... If you were within a couple pounds of the 115 either side...run that puppy.,...
  5. A very small hand held spring loaded center punch, less than 5.00 at Harbor Freight will shatter a tempered glass like nobody's business...at least ways the cops told me this is good to carry for that purpose. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91080
  6. more important at this moment is if all 6 are equal or at least a few pounds of each other...
  7. right you are Norm..those things are cheap enough when new..both money and material but I must admit I bought a couple just for mass production of Sunbeam dashboards and they did the job without a hitch.
  8. I knew he was referring to a steel bodied car..it is just the wording..came off real funny when I read it...
  9. now is this an original line or what? BTW, mine is a real Ford, except for the Chevy engine Still chuckling....
  10. guess you could cut a gasket with it..but with the drill bit, I always called these adjustable hole cutters... This is more a gasket cutter I am used to:
  11. Swan neck refers to the design of the stand/post the mirror head is affixed to...as to the position of mounting on these "aftermarket mirrors" is your call..granted the stock originals were mounted on the cowl trim...I have yet to set the position for mine as the seat is still not installed in my coupe...was trying to get an general idea where some people put these in regard to vision and functionality of the vent glass..and overall appearance in general.
  12. This are not expensive..work very well..I used a couple set of these to support my car body when off the frame..looks like a couple stores near you... http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=38846
  13. nla
  14. slammed a tad isn't it? too low for me...however for the look he tried to achived..he attained...looks like a nice swan neck mirror..did you by chance get a close up of that?
  15. Thanks Todd...yes all the 46-48 Dodge was to have the tan column and wheel as is yours...I have not really crawled inside for a super inspection of my black column and wheel but one of our members did and swears that the paint looks factory as even the most obscure screw is not painted black..no overspray anywhere and no tan behind column clamp etc... Glad to see you back on the project...I could tell when at Bob's house you were getting a bit of a fever to get back on the old car. Sometimes it takes a cruise in or tire kicking session to get the blood flowing again. I have gotten a few small items taken care of and bagged away for final assembly since I got back from Indy.. I have boxes and boxes of stuff cleaned, painted etc. I had to build some hanging shelves to store it all. As I had all that unused room in the lift bay with the 13 foot ceiling..I just suspended my shelves..worked out real nice. Right now keeping the lawn tractor up with new blades, blade hub bearings and such plus cutting lawn eats away a lot of my evening time. Maybe soon I can get more time to dedicate to the ole girl.
  16. Margaret called this evening (second wife) she used to travesrse that bridge quite frequent..any explanations on the why and wehrefore yet? Sal has been watching that show on the tube..TAPS (Terrible Actors Persusing Spectres)
  17. Cost you more to ship it back than buying one...good deal....
  18. When I lived in SC there were a number of folks close by with old cars..miss my buddy Greg even though he was a die hard chebbie fan, we always had something to talk about...number of guys I work with are into old cars..as in..I'd like to have this or I ought to buy that..only if I had such and such...always kicking someone else's tires..gets to be a drag after a bit...which is faster, a Nova without an engine or a Mustang without a transmission...
  19. According to the BOOK... rear axle track (ceter to center of tread) 46-48 60 1/8 ratio 3.9 1949 56 (shortest of all, single year item only) ratios 3.73, 3.9 or 4.1 1950-1954 58 7/16 ratios 3.73, 3.9 or 4.1 I do not have backing plate to backing plate measurements...
  20. Don't know what the long term effect may have been but in my youth at the garage a co worker had an awesome 65 Dodge with all the muscle you could hope for..he would polish his car and then pull it into the shop and dressed his wheels every Friday evening before getting off work with a wipe down of brake fluid...yep..made them tires very slick looking...of course the rear tires never lasted very long for some reason the tread never lasted as long as the sidewalls..
  21. Whoa Norm...drive the coupe over....have you consulted Yahoo maps for this adventure? Old cars are a good way to meet your new neighbor..at least you have a neighbor with an old car...
  22. yeah...it really tears up the plastic container they sell it in...its not like you going to plaster a layer on it and leave it there Norm, I guarantee you that Armour All does more damage than this stuff..would not put Armour All on a dead dog's coffin...
  23. A car worthy of about any amount of time you invest into it..R&P. disc brakes..engine upgrade. (I know of 4 with big block Mopars) rear gear upgrade...looks like a nice unit to work with.
