  1. POS in my book is one that is not worth the effort to bring back to life. Thus a POS in one person's eye may very well be a project car in another's. Most cars in the condition of the black 4 door 53 posted above is a "parts" car as the drive train is complete and stated as running. Being complete and running a loose term I call it a parts car. The boody is a 4 door, less desirable, trim is missing and pot metal beyone salvage for even daily driver use. Floors, rockers, doglegs and roof/pinch wlds shot..trunk floor rot and spare tire well eaten away. Glass cracked, clouded etc. For sure the car can render engine, tranny, OD a plus, rear gear and though the brakes need attention..they can offer up good drums etc. Spindles are nice for trade on lowered unit if you are rodding, intake/exhaust manifolds excellet core value to send off for mod while you continue driving your hoopie. So POS is based on each individual's abilities and money available to bring back to life.. I am guilty of parting out some cars based on the above...and as Ed says, they live on in other peoples cars..I know one parts car I sold to a man here has help keep about 4-5 cars on the road and still has stuff to offer. Parts cars and rodders keep the old iron on the road...we all benefit..then I have use what some has called POS to go tow in some rather new cars...just because my truck is 16 years old and needs a paint job, does not make it a rolling wreck..just an eyesore maybe...
  2. we suffered three severe brown outs over the space of last evening in my area...reasons unknown..actually I personaly think it was load power adjustment via RF signal as the root..these brown outs were about 30 minutes apart..right on the schedule of power grid load management...not good for computer and AC systems...
  3. I have had a many of them as a kid..loved them all..hours of fun..we got the small ones for 5 cents...(not today though) had the movable wing in the slot for loops or long glide...fun was to see who get their plane the furthest... Next in line was kite flying..building your own kite...
  4. Well..you made it and it appears you have arrived in style....I am eligible to walk in less than 90 days...not pushing anything yet mind ya...
  5. For the record boys I have seen this car in person a couple of times...parts car only in my book..again..this is my opinion based on what I have seen in person....I first looked at this car about 8 months ago and I looked at it again 'bout a month back...
  6. According to my book, the 52 was when they put the OD in and the dealer was afforded retrofit to install in all previous sold cars..totally backward compatability as I read it...That is also why some earlier cars were equipted with OD.
  7. I have never had a need to find truck info so am not in the know at the moment. Would feel reasonably sure some enthusiast has this posted somewhere. I sold my 41 Dodge truck before I got internet connected but at the house I have a Dodge history book. Even it does not go into detail as you would think or hope...I also have not searched nor investigate the sister forum we have here for the trucks...have you posted your inquiry there? I would imagine somebody there would have this info compiled and available. Sorry I am not more help to you... PS Itake that back..I made inquiry here to a 1 1/2 ton staker earlier..I had two people here who help with some info.
  8. If this is the early version..the key has a resistor built in..the wire that leads from the ignition switch gets broken due to age...results is no start...as there are but about 8 resistor values..you can read the value of your key..drop the lowr panel..cut the two little wires going to the ignition and solder a resitor of the same value in place. Car will start and run but no longer has the pass key feature...20 minutes and 1.75 for the reistor at about any RS... Now if it is a later version then igonore ALL the above as I have never messed with them....
  9. Welcome...all you want to know but were afraid to ask.. http://www40.addr.com/~merc583/mopar/framesets/referenceframeset.html
  10. is it difficult to sync the dual carbs? Not with good secure linkage and the correct syncro tool...
  11. Greg..I wam afraid that in using Rusltoleum to roll out (or simialr product), the balling will be something that will happend unless the paint is left to hardened real good..probably as much as 30 days depending upon temp and humidity. Now there is a way around that to a degree that willspeed up the process...I have sprayed Rustoleum top coat enamel by thinning with regular enamel reducer..(may be a bit fast dry for rolling) I used Classic acrylic enamel hardner by Evercoat...good stuff..is compatable and I guarantee you ..sanding it off will be a lot easier. You will be amazed at how tough this paint is..and it still is holding up 16 years later. Now I suggest that you try this but on a test surface if you are using the slower mineral spirits as a reducer..you can buy enamel reducer in three grades, fast medium and slow. Use 8 parts of paint and 1 part hardner and thin to the viscosity yu need to work with..I cannot say how the hardner should react with mineral spirits but do make a test roll..a few drops of fisheye eliminator will also help flow... I can say this...it has a tendency to dry quite quick on the roll so anything you can do to slow it...the better as long as you get good coverage without sags or runs..the hardener will make it sandable.
  12. This could very well apply here... You don't know what you're doing..You're bore out of your mind...You need some adult supervision.... "Marcie to Uncle Buck" I guess you have to give the guy credit for following through and offering up a complete vehicle..like it or not...!!
  13. looks like a perfect candiate for the monster truck rally...be fun to see that thing crushed..in all seriousness..that is one ugly car....
  14. Insulting..I'll tell you insulting...Barney Fife..Mayberry RFD...talk about your yahoo hic bragadocious southern redneck..man if we can live with him, surley the cartoon character of Dudley cannot be so bad..at least he was just a cartoon...I refuse to watch the Andy Griffith show just because of him..of course Floyd and Goober were not what you call beacons of light either...
  15. This could grow to one long list..nothing like the stuff they have out there today..poor youth of today..I put on some of my Pink Floyd and my teenager wanted to know what new group that was...
  16. Wrapped in barb wire and rolled down the hill... I love it...
  17. Another fine example of musicians from the past...I still do the oldies goldies when it come to music...
  18. Pete, know your pain..there is no accounting for some people actions..have never really figured out if it is just a inherit mean streak or a sense of jealousy or what...pranks of this nature is not without some malice even if you think you are throwing an innocent enough egg...if not washed off soon enough, will remove paint... Sure hope it will buff out ...
  19. I have used the speedy sleeve a lot when I worked for Ford..seems they were really soft I guess and as such ned them..of course these were on the harmonic balance but same principle...they are sufficient to do the job and easily renewed if needed.
  20. and all this from the Lovin' Spoonfuls...they had more hits than most remember...
  21. that is just too scary knowing you know that....!!! I grew up calling any decorative or hand crocheted protectors a doiley..my grandmother spend her winters doing this kind of work...and the hand embroarded pillow cases and table runners...this era has long slipped by...very few people are SHUT-IN due to weather these days so that pastime is no more.
  22. Lets not forget what our own Larry (knighthawk) has done with his in such a short time also...clean looking chop..not overly done. Second page, post 82 for finished in primer look http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=1397
  23. Justin...when you farm this stuff out...prices go through the roof...again, this hobby is a do-it-yourself and if you just want to hold a car that is concurs..buy one that is in that condition..cost is less...so many times the piece out of this works adds up quick..though over a long time the owner does not full realize the money he has placed in to this car...each has to do what he can do best..oft time with shop space, tools etc etc..farming is the only option. And I know shops are in this business for the money...but some are flat out outrageous in their cost and the workmanship in not near the level of quality it should be...
  24. If you are referring to the mounts on the frame..some of these are bolt on...if you are instead referring to the cross supports that tie the inner rockers togehter and give support to the floor pan..then these can be repaired alsong with the floor pan metal...I suggest you do this in 1/4 foor pan sections to prevent loos of shape and any chance of shifting..I also do not recommend removing the body from the frame till at least the inner and outer rockers are replaced if yours are in very bad shape...this is what holds the door gap and will prevent possible roof buckling. There are those that do put temp braces on the door opening above the sill and go ahead and lift the body..this is also workable...just be aware of the possibilites of further damage if this is not done in one manner or another...
