  1. I did not use any porportion valve or residual pressure valves. Brakes are working great since I installed the 95 Ranger 3.73 rearend....
  2. Sorry i missed your brake upgrade posts. On my 38, I used an aluminum 80s Dodge MC, the small one, for 10 years. I had to cut some off the MC mounting area to have room for the pedal to go all the way down. I used a Mustang MC on my 48 Dodge. The MC points rearward on the 48, works good...
  3. One thing I noticed about my springs when I took them apart, was the end of the leaf would wear a grove into the spring above it. This could make for a poor ride. My springs had 65,000 miles on them. I ground a bevel on each spring before putting them back together. My 37 Sedan has the original wrap around the springs, I guess to keep in grease and keep out water... I see some modern springs have some type plastic inserts near the ends..
  4. Your new springs look great. Are you using the original bump stop? If you go lower, the axle may get close to the bump stop...
  5. Your truck sounds similar to my friend's 52 Studerbaker truck, barely get 50MPH, with the original setup. My 38 Coupe has a 218, a 1987,5 speed Ranger trans, and a 95 Ranger 3.73 rearend. I am very happy with this set up. 1st gear is a little lower than stock normal, and the 5th gear overdrive is excellent.. I have a 86 Ranger 4 banger rearend, 3.25 ratio, I feel would be to high for my setup.
  6. There are inline filters available for folks that would rather have a complete throw away filter, rather than have to deal with a cartridge type filter...
  7. I believe the Ford fuel gauge I used was from the 1995 Ranger I junked.....
  8. Congrats,,,, I have a 1956 engine sitting in the shop for many years, plan on using it in my 37 Coupe. I believe the 56 had around 130 HP, alot more than my 80 HP 1937 engine.....
  9. You may have good luck with a voltage reducer. I am using a Ford fuel gauge, with my 38 Coupe's face on it, a Datson sender unit, and a voltage reducer to 6 volt. Has been fairly accurate....
  10. In my 38 Coupe, I have been using 10w-40w whatever is on sale, oil for near 20 years, but lately I use Rotella 15w-40w, only because it is free. I use Fram C3 oil filter, from Tractor Supply. I believe the Napa oil filter is a 1080, not sure..... There are several different sizes canisters, so watch which gasket you need....
  11. I can not remember whom this engine belongs too. It sure is beautiful....
  12. Tim, you sure got that right. A funeral home called, and ask when was I going to pay my bill. I told him I was not dead yet, that I know of. Someone with the same name as I, had passed away. The Dodge dealer called and asked when was I going to pick up my new Dodge truck. I told the dealer to just deliver the truck, because I did not have a driver's license. Someone with the same name as I was buying the truck.....
  13. Thanks Wayfarer. I may add also that the 4 speed TK4 will be good also. The 4th gear is 1 to 1 ratio on the 4 speed, and the 5 speed 4th gear is 1 to 1, and the 5th gear has the overdrive, that I do not recall the ratio.... Another big plus for me, was I got to use my original speedometer. There are several of the Ranger speedometer gear drives that can be changed easily to get the original speedometer more accurate....
  14. I started a thread, "5 speed not T5", that was about my install of a TK5 Ford Ranger 5 speed, Toyo Kogyo 1983 to 1987. It was an easy install, is working very good with the 3.73 rearend.
  15. I just used a piece of steel rod I found in my shop. I believe about 9 inch long. I made the bracket out a piece of angle iron.
  16. I believe the joke was, "a drunk goes into a gay bar",,,,,,,,,,,,but my hearing is not very good.....
  17. Brakes;,,,, On my 48 Dodge I installed a rebuilt Mustang II master cylinder, used a longer rod going through the original MC, and made a small bracket....works good,,,,,
  18. The text is ghosty looking, Not easy to read with my poor old eyes...
  19. I spent a year in Colorado Springs many year ago, very beautiful country.....
  20. Those make a very nice ride...
  21. Tim, your firewall idea is very nice. I did a Ranger firewall install that looks very similar, but probably will use the Jeep firewall instead...
  22. My 38 had a 3.9 rear, and would do many RPMs at 55MPH. I installed a 5 speed TK5 Ford Ranger trans, 1987, and the 5 gear was very good with the 3.9, but 1st gear was very low. I installed a Ranger rear, 3.73, now the 1st gear is ok, and 5 gear is great also.
  23. I believe my Jeep 6 has 190 HP, which is a big jump from my 80 HP Dodge 6.......
  24. Dan, this is what I was thinking on the radiator,, was to buy a good quality radiator to fit into my 37, with the Jeep 6. Fan in the front if necessary.
