  1. I have a 12 volt generator, 1956, installed in my 38 Coupe. The 12 volt have a green tag, and the 6 volt have a red tag...
  2. I have a 98 Cherokee 2wd for a part vehicle. The rearend with Dodge wheels is a great fit for my 38 Coupe, 67 inch from the outer edge of the tire tread, to the other side. I recently installed a 95 Ranger rearend, but added 1 inch spacers to get a good tire fit. The Explorers have a very good fit rearend, but my wife would not let me use her Explorer's rearend...
  3. I seen a 27 LED portable worklight/flashlight for $2.79 at the Habor Freight book this week. Would be handy to have a couple in the cars or shop. I bought a couple of 12 volt led lights that go into a receiver hitch. Would be nice to insert them into my Coupe's tail lights, but I do not know how to make them dim or bright, or if even possible....
  4. I have a 1998 cherokee....I measured the rearend with a couple old tires, and wheels, the width from the outer edge of the tire tread to the other outer edge of the tire tread, it near 67inch, which it perfect for my Coupe....
  5. I just measured my 38 Coupe hub, 2.82 inch. My 4x4 2000 Explorer hub measures, 2.82 inch. I believe if the center hole is bigger on the disc, it may move. The lug nuts only keep the wheel center on the lug bolts.
  6. I have ridden motorcycles most of my like. Driving my vehicles defensively, like I ride my mororbike, has saved my life many times. Here in Virginia, this is "tailgate" country. Many times, I have to pull off the road, or move to the high speed lane and slow down, to get someone off my butt.
  7. I would think the rotor would not stay centered... I placed my 2000 Exporer rotor, on my 38 hub for a test fit, it was very tight, I would have to have the exp milled a little to fit. I believe some guys use Crown Vic rotors also....
  8. Yes, especially since the Valiant was the first to "not" have a direct current dynamo...
  9. The original temp gauge on the heater hose line is not very accurate, but only because the unit itself is not accurate. I put the end of the gauge in boiling water, and the needle would not go up as fas as it should...
  10. C38,,,I have two temp gauges on my Coupe.,,,both work ok.... The original is just before the heat control vailve.
  11. Maybe what we need, is to get the electric out of the water. I see on the Auto Parts websites, there are many coolant filters available for cars. These look like oil filter that screw onto a base.. I was wondering if anyone had installed some type of "sacrafice rod" in a radiator, like that in a home water heater. With so many types of materials, steel, brass, copper, aluminum, no wonder the cooling systems get in poor condition....
  12. Thanks Falcon, I am on the hunt for another type trans,,,Mitsubishi FM132, code D 5 speed, that came in 1988 to 1992,,,2.9L 2 wheel drive Ranger..not sure of the gears, but the 4x4 had, 3.769 to 0.812... A friend of mine has a 52 Studebaker truck, all original, 6 cyl, in family long time, has a bad trans . I am trying to help him adapt a 5 speed of some type,,,T5,,,,TK5,,,or FM132, etc....
  13. My setup is with the 3.73 rearend, TK 5speed, the first gear is a little low, would not need much if I lived in flat country, handy here in hilly country.. With a 3.23 rearend, my first gear would be great, but I would not be able to use 5th gear much, a TK4, 4 speed, would work ok.... Keep in mind, My Coupe only has 80 hp....
  14. The Mazda, 4 cyl, 1988 and up, ,,,,,2.9 2wd 88 -92,,,4.0 91 -2000, 3.0 91-up Ranger have the Mazda M50D-R1,,, one piece bell I think. Mazda, 1987 and older, I have not seen info on yet....
  15. I think it is a 38 truck. The axle looks strait accross, the cars had curved axle... 36 cars had square windshiels at the bottom corners, not sure on trucks. 37 Plymouth cars had tilt out windshield, 38s were solid,,,,trucks may be different.. My memory not very good anymore...
  16. Thanks,,,,,I did some searching and could not find anything on 5 speeds yesterday....
  17. We had a little sunshine here in Virginia today, so good time to put on a couple of miles on the Coupe. Ranger rearend, 3.73, is a good addition. Coupe cruising good at 55.... I will borrow a GPS unit and get some RPM, and MPH numbers soon.....
  18. Aerostars did have the Toyo trans also... The gears are,,,3.96 to 0.84 in the 5 speed. 1988 to 1992 Rangers had a Mitsubishi,,FM132 5 speed also,, I would like to get my hands on also... I believe the gears are 3.769 to 0.812.
  19. Nice Bob, That would be a good photo to print and hang on the garage wall....
  20. I can not find the 5 speed thread I started on here. Here is a couple more photos. No adapters are needed. I used a piece of angle iron for the bottom support. Had the trans from cover milled about 1/16 inch, $20. Plymouth pressure plate, Ranger clutch disc. The trans gear ratios with my 3.73 Ranger rearend, is excellent...
  21. Greg, this is the first one I have ever seen... Just came accross it on ebay....
  22. This filter is attached to the heater hose. If the filter would clog, that would be no different than shutting off the heater valve. The newer version is clear, so easy to see. It does look like the new fuel filters, except it has 5/8 connections...
  23. If an insurance company in a "70%" rule state, has a damage claim of say 69% damage of a $20,000 policy, would the owner receive the 69% of the value, and keep the car? If the damage claim of say 71% of a $20,000 policy, car would be "totaled", would the owner have the option of receiving the total value, $20,000, and the company keep the car, or would the owner have the option of keeping the car, (buy it back) for a reduced amount of money. With my friend's Explorer insurance company, here in Virginia, the owner has the options. With my my Mom's Allstate insurance claim, (Ohio) Allstate did not allow the owner the option. The policy have very small print that says the insurance has the options... Good to know if the owner has the options or not....
  24. I run by a filter system for antifreeze, to install on the heater hose. NOS,,,, I found a newer version also...
  25. All insurance companies do not play by the same rules. Last year I bought an Explorer from a lady, that the insurance was paying for a total loss, and the owner was given the choice to take the whole amount, or keep the vehicle and take a partial payment. The owner let me have the Explorer for the partial amount, clear title, which was 15% of the whole amount.....
