  1. A weak battery or charging system, loose conections can make a vehicle lose power. An exhaust problem, such as a collapsed muffler, or stuck heat riser, can make a vehicle lose power, especially going up hill. A dirty air filter, or fuel filter, fuel pump, a tight distributor, lots of possible things to check, that can give similar problems.
  2. It does not take much oil on the clutch disc to make it start losing grip.
  3. My white tach is 12 volt. I do not remember the name. It has a "GH" on the front. It was for a boat, but works good in my Coupe. The only things 6 volt in my Coupe, are the heater blower, and the fuel gauge....
  4. Chet, nice tach you have. Seems most tachs we see now of day, have 10,000 or 12,000 rpms on them. I put a marine tach in my coupe. Something I can read easy. Last week I was doing a test run, since I installed a Ranger rearend. The tach was reading about 1800 rpm at 40 mph. Will do some more test runs soon with a GPS so get a better idea of speeds, and rpms............
  5. I installed the 94 Bronco MC, that had disc in front, drum rear, even though my 38 Coupe has drums front and rear. I plan on later installing disc in my Coupe. The 94 Bronco MC does good with the drums front and rear, and should do better when I install the disc.....
  6. I put a 1994 Ford Bronco MC on my 38 Coupe, and still used the original pedal assembly. 1 1/8 bore. Has been working very good. On my 48 Dodge, I put on a Mustang ll MC... worked good, still used orginal pedal assembly.
  7. Great to see you on here today Bob:):),, Best of luck,,,,,
  8. I am using a 5 speed transmission, 1983 to 1987 Ford Ranger, TK5, in my 38 Coupe, with the flathead. Project was not difficult. Check the thread, "5speed not T5" I am setting up another TK5 onto a 1956 Dodge engine, for another project.
  9. I recently install a 1995 Ford Ranger rearend, 3.73, into the Coupe. I checked the angle on the old rearend before removal. I made up a simple track bar also. I drove the Coupe about 20 miles or so today. Car drives great now. The 3.73 is a good improvement from the 3.90 I removed.
  10. I have been spending a little time on the fuel gauge in my 38 Coupe. My 3 origina fuel gauges, and 2 senders are bad. What I did was use a Ford Mustang fuel gauge, 1978, covered with a face from the 38 fuel gauge, used a 78 Datson sender, about 12ohm - 65ohm. This setup works very good with 6 volts. This setup shows high reading on the gauge with 12 volt. I have an older Toyota sender with about 15ohm - 75 ohm, that works ok, but not as acurate as the Datson.
  11. Welcome,, My Uncle's 36 Coupe had the old style "knee action" type shocks. My 37s, and 38s, have the modern type shocks. A 5speed conversion is a great improvement in driveablility. I am very happly with my TK5 Ford Ranger 5 speed conversion to my flathead Coupe.
  12. There is an A100 on Craigslist $5500, Hiltons, Va, near Kingsport. 423-963.1700 3 speed,,,,,,,,225 six cyl
  13. Same type service here in Virginia. Took me over two hours and several cups of coffee to haggle with a dishonest salesman when I bought my wife a Dodge Avenger. We spent alot of time on our cycle, car shopping. We would leave our information of what we were looking for, and the salesmen never contacted us.
  14. Probably true about the gas back in the 70s. My Aunt bought the 66 new for around $2300, put 10,000 miles per year, about average back then. At the same time, 1970s, my brother in law worked at the police garage. He showed me the police car engines with over 300,000 miles on them, in for a rebuild, with no sludge at all.
  15. I have had a couple negative expierences with 30W oil. After coming home from Vietnam, 1970, I bought a 1966 Plymouth from my Aunt, 40,000 miles on it. The car had nothing but 30W Quaker State oil, at 3000 miles changes. At 42,000 miles, I was changing the oil, and new valve cover gaskets. Under the valve covers was so much almost dry sludge, I could barely see the valve springs. I dropped the oil pan, and the same situation was there. The screen on the oil pump was in very bad shape. No amount of 5w would have broke loose any of this sludge. I bought a S10 truck, 4cyl, 79,000 miles, from an older guy, that the engine had seized up. I removed the oil plug, but no oil came out. After removing the engine, I pulled the oil pan, and over 7 qts of oil came out. The screen on the oil pump was completly cover, starving the engine of oil. Talked to the older guy, he had used nothing but 30W oil from the time the truck was new.. My theory is that thin oil, 5W, will not remove any sludge, and 30W will only add to a bad situation. Everyone to their own opinion.....
  16. I have been using 10w-40w in my 48, and my 38 for many years.
  17. That looks very close to the two day tool sale at the fairgrounds here last weekend. I could not find anything that I would purchase....
  18. Walmart has "micromink" you may be interested in. Check in the blanket section. I use a microfiber blanket for a headliner in my 38 Coupe, looks very nice.
  19. I have been to China 3 times in the past few years. I did not see any kind of old vehicles on my trips. Very few bycycles also. I read that only 1 in 1000 people in China have a vehicle, but that is changing fast. I seen alot of Buicks there , and Chevy and Fords are made there now....
  20. I have had two bad experiences with Sears batteries warranties. Sears would not honor thier warranty both times. Sears said the batteries were ok, and would hold a charge. The batteries would hold a good charge for an hour or so. So Sears is on my "ignore" list. For my 48 Dodge, I bought a 800 amp six volt battery from Tractor Supply. No problems so far. For my Honda Goldwing, I buy Interstate batteries that I replaced at 7 years, each time:). Even after 7 years, the batteries are still ok. I made the mistake of buying a Napa battery that lasted 7 months:mad:, in the Wing. My Wing is a 1989 I bought new. I bought a Interstate 12 volt for my 38 Coupe, and will buy for my other vehicles when need to replace.....
  21. The weather has been great here in Virginia for our Saturday evening cruise-ins. This week I was the only one there with a car, I went on Friday. I have been spending toooooooooo many hours under the car.
  22. I know how you feel, not long ago, I lost my 2 cats that were with me for 18 years.
  23. Emergency or parking brake. I came home one day from work, parked my 66 Plymouth, stick shift, and applied the parking brake. An hour later my neighbor came to my home, and asked if I could remove my car from his driveway. My Plymouth had rolled dowm my driveway, crossed the street, and went about 40 feet up his driveway. I started the car, and it would not move forward, but would move backward. I released the parking brake, and the car moved easy. I had better check out my parking brake on my 38 Coupe today.
  24. I added about 7 inchs to my floor shifter today. It is alot easier to reach now.
  25. The 50 Dodge would be a good addition to your 39, if you do not want to have the 39 engine rebuilt. The 50 should have near 20HP over the 39. I have a 56 Dodge engine, with a TK5 Ford Ranger 5 speed, I will attach to it, that I will be putting into my 37 Plymouth Sedan, for my next project.
