Various questions: Wire clips, electrical connectors, horn wire, fan belt
Bryan replied to Bryan's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Thanks a bunch y'all ! Ran out of likes. -
Good you're letting us know. I might be getting there in several weeks. Got to get the engine out first. How did you find out the correct orientation?

D24 1948 Dodge Sedan: Does anyone know a source for (or DIY) for the metal C & S type clips that hold wires to fenders? Also what are the wire connector cylinders shown in the 2nd picture? For the horn wire coming out the end of the steering column, is that hard to thread thru & install? A good source or substitute for the upper control arm rubber bumpers? Are the notched fan belts okay to use? My original belt is solid (5/8" wide at top, 3/8" at bottom of V).

Yeah, I wouldn't chop it.. to me it would look better if they had extended the top back more to the trunk, changed the angle to a little more slope, and changed the back window somehow. Looks too much like a bubble. But any change like that will probably tank the value.

I played with the picture a little..don't nobody laugh..? One just extended the back towards the trunk. Maybe with a better shaped window.

Out most of the day with the wife. Got home around 3 pm and decided to test my water temperature gauge. Took already boiled water in jar from the house and boiled it again with the sensor in it. Seems close enough. Other picture: Found out why I should have jacked up under the control arms also..old rubber upper bumper disintegrated on both sides. Also measuring my fan belt..it measures on the outside exactly 48 inches, not 49 as the new ones list. Wonder if it is like me and shrank with age?

Did you happen to do an underbody wash with it? Wonder if it got into some electrical connection?

Uh, looking at the pictures...how do you adjust the valves with dual headers in the way? I would still suggest getting it running stock, run around a few months to get the feel of it, and then adding hop up stuff later one at a time to feel the improvement. Then you can appreciate the add ons.

From something I've read recently if you take off in first gear with overdrive engaged it will damage it pretty bad. Do a forum search on overdrive. It was someone else's post where he was having problems with it. Thanks a bunch..I take about 5 pictures for about each one I show. Got a lot of the linkages and carburetor. I either put the bolt back in the hole or sandwich bag it with a paper note and taped label. I read enough from other people and sites saying not to force bolts..heat..oil..jiggle..heat til they come out with normal pulling. I'll be glad when I get the exhaust & intake manifolds off and head off. Since its so warm here concentrated on underneath also..don't want to lay on cold concrete. Tomorrows an off day...wife is wanting to get out of the house..

Got the exhaust header loose with plenty of oil, map gas, paint scraper & chisel. Got the temp sender out, carb linkage and fuel lines, part of the transmission linkage.

Yeah, was careful but didn't exactly do it like that. Wish I had read your message first, would have been easier. I was turning the large gland nut and watching the copper tube carefully to make sure it didn't twist. The spiral protection coil doesn't matter if it spins. Flexed the nut back and forth and slowly turned it out with plenty of penetrating oil. When I got the bulb out I cleaned around it with a jeweler's screw driver and got it free.

Can someone look at the picture of the water temperature sender I posted. Does the big fitting come out too? I can't heat it up with the torch too much.

Oops, not the brand name but whether it was enamel, lacquer, or a modern paint.

Talk about a round hole in a square peg... Also what do you think about blocking the auto choke off (father left the wire hanging) ? Mine has a manual choke.
-
Today's work went well..about 75F in South Carolina. Some things I found strange..why did they route the distributor vacuum line under the short hose from the thermostat? The heater hose fitting with the internal tube looks strange. Also, I think my father put on a manual choke and disconnected the wire to the auto choke. Found it dangling, and remembered he always used the manual choke and was showing me how far to pull it out. Testing some of the intake/exhaust manifold bolts..the center ones are in a bad location and also won't move..outer ones I got them loosened.
-
You might have mentioned before, but what type of paint did you use?
-
I just wiggled it back and forth and pulled up. Been spraying every connection with PB Blaster. Just got the oil cannister off and other oil fittings. Used my Map gas torch on the oil line fittings.

Welcome aboard! They look in pretty good shape outside but hope you look underneath. These have 218 or 230 flathead 6 cylinders. Would get them running first so you know what the originals feel like on the road, then later add go-fast stuff. Don't know on the coupe how much it would de-value it to chop the top. Would get it running first.

We had a cart like that when I was very young. It's from the early 60s. Was grass green and chrome.

Ordering more parts, shocks, rubber mounts and took a chance on getting the right starter solenoid..

Little more done today. Got the generator off, spark plug harness and oil vent tube. 35A generator. Spent a lot of time trying to get the fittings loose to the oil filter. Sure don't want to break them off. Loosened a few more manifold bolts. Took more pics than I actually post.. a lot of detail.

If you continue your 27 Sept post it will still come to the top where people can see it and continue comments.
