  1. using a block of wood you most likely damaged/dis-formed the center. when I installed mine i used a large socket that fit the diameter of the seal. your first photo is the correct orientation, raised center out. I also found that soaking in oi land placing the yoke on the seal over night, made the final yoke installation easier

    axle seals

there is a seal in your first picture. It looks like the one I just removed from my 51. The seal in your second picture is backwards. the area where the seal fits is slightly smaller than the area where the bearing fits, so you can not judge if it is correct until you remove the original seal. on further review it looks like the seal in your second picture is the grease seal that fits in the brake backing plate, not the oil seal that fits in the axle housing
  3. does anyone know a reason you could not drill out the rear brake drums and install studs from the inside. pro's /con's?

  13. remember the the cooler integral to the radiator will only cool to the water temp of the radiator. so if your water temp is 200+ you would be heating the oil.
  14. I emailed Rusty Hope. Their response was "their kit was designed for "stock wheels"" . My 51 Cranbrook has stock 15" wheels. Anyone installed this kit, or any other, using stock 15" wheels? ECI gives a diagram showing the need for 16" Scarebird says "will clear"Most" stock wheels"
  15. Just curious what one might expect from a 1951 plymouth. Been to long since I drove it, and at the time it was not a concern. Dad is no longer around to ask. In the process of a full restoration. I know when it is finished it will be "mega grins per mile".
