  1. How about now, does it look like the early 1950's?

  3. So the steering column bracket Tim sent fits perfectly (Thanks Tim!), and I'm still figuring out the hand brake. The anchor bolt on the driver's side appears to have a spring (I believe it acts like a lock washer to hold the adjustment in place) which I've ordered from VPW ('appears' to be same bolts and springs for all models) along with an adjusting bolt spring (passenger side) that I'm missing. Once I get all of the parts in place, I'll have a go at adjusting the contraption.

  4. I've been reading your posts. My wife and I look forward to joining you for at least part of the trip. Thanks for the updates and all the effort you have made. Looks like you have a nice trip planned! I'll get an RSVP out in a day or so. Awesome flyer! Scott

  6. I would say that the rubber bumper got old and came off the metal stud an was probably the original bumper. Yes I woudld but in a new bumper when you do the front end. What is left over is probably the metal piece that was valcanized into the rubber bumper. Just my take on what you are showing in the picture. Rich HArtung

  7. I used to run well when I weighed about 190. That was 25-years and three hip replacements ago when I was in the Army.

  8. Several years ago, I bought a hydraulic bender, about $70 then/$110 now, to make my exhaust system myself. I bought "sticks" of exhaust pipe from the local muffler shop. After bending the pipes, I painted the pipes with barbeque grill paint, and installed. Pipes still looks good today. I spent $125 all together, which would be about $200 at today's costs. I did not install a muffler though, maybe one of these days. At 80HP, my Coupe is not too loud for short trips.....

  9. Awww 1940plymouth, that black & white touch up does make it look real "old school." Brings back fond childhood memories of seeing my mom, aunts and their friends making those long strings of tissue paper flowers to run across those early 50's cars for weddings. Tony

  10. Told you that cleaner would do the trick. As far as passing on the 201, when it's all said and done, tally up the money spent on yours versus the 201. I think you'll be happier. Your car looks pretty sweet. I tell everyone mine is a good looking girl in an ugly dress. But when I get to the paint job and the interior, she will be the Belle of the Ball. Joe

  11. I don't think you'll need to redo the bore just from that. Dad and I had one with rust pits in one cylinder that we put new rings in and it ran fine. Smoked a little though I don't think yours is nearly as bad.

  12. To All: Well, I scored another minor success in installing the glass and mechanicals in one door! After reading all I cold find on the subject, I finally (through trial and error) figured out the sequencing procedure for all the components (jamb mechanism, regulator, vent window, front channel, glass run, circular retainer clips, fuzzy strip, rubber bumpers, etc., etc.). I learned that it is helpful to install the clips with the help of a mirror and string light. I also learned that the fuzzy strip and bumpers can be installed after the glass is in, but thin fingers are helpful. In any event, since the passenger door is complete, the other door should be much easier (famous last words). If I have done it correctly, there should be a photo of the door attached. Barry

  13. I will do that! I don't have a filter on mine yet. I guess someone didn't want top pay for the extra option when it was new. I am going to pull my oil pan, just clean everything up. Will make me feel better!

  14. personally I think the many and varied responses is the true rating of the thread...you can give them a score...but lets be fair all around if we have but 1 to 5 to rate a thread.....that is not saying much except all is positive except to a lesser degree.......are we going to be enable to the ability to give it a negative rating...don't see that happening...that would be abused to no end...again, I think the reponses are the true merit of a thread good or bad as readership is up and folks are commenting one manner or another..the star system needs to go away..

  15. With the exception of the Ford truck, satellite TV dishes, and the two story house in the background of photo #3, this photo looks like it could have been taken in the early 50's! nice!

  16. It's a fun read. I got one a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. Especially having had gone through my own Old Dodge rebuild. At times the mental imagery was pretty vivid. Merle

  17. I just ordered a copy of this book here in Oz. The old version of the book looks better (than the later edition) as it has the old blue Dodge truck on the cover. I suspect that I have some fun reading ahead!

  19. Tim, thank you for another great event. It was good to see everyone again. When I saw Jerry I said, it’s good to see you again how are you doing. He replied well we’re a year older. Boy that’s true! Even though I only see most of you only once a year it seems like we all pick up where we left off last year. Tim, I also wanted to say good job on creating the trophies, its’ my first trophy since 1979 thanks
