The Swede Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Hello everyone. In my 47 Dodge there is four holes in the backseat floor. Two on each side. Anyone who can figure out what was mounted in these holes? You can clearly see on the carpet that something was mounted there. I can´t figure out what it was...... Please Help! /Jimmy Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Maybe a planter box? Just kidding or probably seat belts. Bob Quote
RHDSP15C Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 What ever it was those holes weren't supposed to be there. Quote
62rebelP23 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 once upon a time they used to sell brackets to support shelves that salesmen used to keep sample cases off the floor. either that, or possibly at some time this was a police car, and had a shield mounted? they don't look like they're in the right place to be seat belts, but i could definitely be wrong. (when i read the post, before i saw the pics, i thought you MIGHT have a bootlegger's car, which they added drain holes to dump hooch through if they were caught) Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 My 49 Plymouth has a foot rest on the floor in about the same place. It's a thing for passengers in the back seat to put their feet on. Mine is welded to the floor but maybe yours was bolted down. Quote
David Maxwell Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 ...clips that attached to the carpet and then snap to the floor. This keeps the carpet from creeping. Restoration Specialties sells the clips. Quote
David Maxwell Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 I just copied the image of each type they sell. You can look up on their site which is the correct for your car. Been too long for me to remember. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 I think there may have been a trapeeze bar there for recreational back seat events. Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Maybe a planter box? Just kidding or probably seat belts.Bob My moneys on seat belt anchor locations and imprints. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Don't know about the back floor, but I did in high school days read that classic book "Hole In the Mattress" by Mister Completely. Quote
David Maxwell Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 ...will be able to see the clips, their remnants, or at least holes where the clips were once attached to their carpet. I've had 4 of P15s over the years. Each had the original carpet with the clips. The clips in the pic I posted earlier would attach to the carpet by the prongs and then the rounded head of the clip would pop into the holes in the floor. This kept the carpet from working its way forward and pulling out from under the back seat. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Look under the car for large washer marks on the underside of the car- a sure sign of seat belts. Bob Quote
Normspeed Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 Don't know about the back floor, but I did in high school days read that classic book "Hole In the Mattress" by Mister Completely. Go to your corner Bob:D Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 As you know, there are a few more of those books out there.....but guess they will remain un-mentioned. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 It took me about ten full minutes to get that joke. I thought Mr. Completely was some 60s counterculture figure like Wavy Gravy. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 On the way to my parents cabin I have to cross the bridge over the yellow river..... Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 Right, and just last weekend, I met a fellow named Claude who recently had an encounter with a tiger. Quote
The Swede Posted February 16, 2008 Author Report Posted February 16, 2008 Yes I also thought of the seatbelt alternative. Strange is that on the passenger side the hole is drilled right thru the muffler heatshield.... The job of an expert..... or not Quote
Normspeed Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Two of my P24 lap seat belt bolts go right through into the top of the frame. The nuts and big washers fit between floor and frame. I ain't necessarily taking ownership of the work but it does serve the purpose. Swede, here's one, my 86 Bronco has a problem with the right seat belt plastic housing melting enough to sag down next to the console so you can't reach it. Ford designed the bottom side of that retainer bolt right over the hot muffler:D Yes I also thought of the seatbelt alternative.Strange is that on the passenger side the hole is drilled right thru the muffler heatshield.... The job of an expert..... or not Quote
JerseyHarold Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Didn't I.P. Daly write a book about the yellow river? Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 You're thinking of Under the Bleachers, by Seymor Butts. Are you guys sure you wanna start this? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Didn't I.P. Daly write a book about the yellow river? Thought it was I.P. Freely....but I admit I am not much into the classics... Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 I believe you are correct, Tim. I. P. Freely was the author. The book about the tiger was written by Claude Ba//s. Maybe Niel is right. Maybe we shouldn't get started. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Anyone read the book Bad Lunch by M Akesaturd? Neil is right:eek: Quote
