vanbuskirk Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Host hotel info for Detroit Plymouth Nationals: Marriott Pontiac $89 plus tax for Plymouth Owners Club Phone: 248-253-9800 July 28-Aug 2 I registered for the last 3 nights. Make sure that your passports are in order. Bob Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Passports for what? If going to Canada or coming from Canada, you do not need a passort, if crossing the border by road, you can use a birth ceritificate, drivers license etc, it is only if you are flying I believe Quote
greg g Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 New boarder crosing reg just went into effect. Absent a passport or the US Dept of State, passport application official reciept, you now need a picture ID (drivers license) and a birth certificate with the raised county or city seal, a photo copy is no loger accepted. I would imagine the passport will speed the process vs. the other forms of ID. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 If you go to the Post Office to get your passport, go plenty ahead of time as it can be a slow process. We got ours a year ago or so, and waited a bit late......so paid extra $ to have them expedited. (ah, well..Live & Learn) Quote
1949P17BC Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Bob, Greg and all other tailgaters, thanks for the hotel information. I am planning to be there the whole week, first part for work, the second half for play. Are they planning any cruises or do we need to start thinking about where we might want to go. Mark Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 My work schedule has changed and I might possibly be able to attend. Who else is going? Quote
Young Ed Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 I'm still planning on attending. We are taking the long route through the U.P. and coming down to Pontiac. Looks like at this point we'll have a 3 car caravan with my parents in 1, my sis and bro-in-law in another, and me and a buddy in my car. Quote
Furylee2 Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 We plan on being there Wednesday for the evening tour of the Walter P. Chrysler Museum. Quote
Young Ed Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 Ed' date='Why not save some gas money and go the short way, without going through Chicago. Just drive to Milwaukee and take the Lake Express Ferry. Only takes about 3 1/2 hours to cross Lake Michigan from Milwaukee to Muskegon, MI, and you can sit back and enjoy a boat ride at the same time. [url']http://www.lake-express.com/[/url] We may take that way back. We are intentionally taking the longer route along the U.P. to see the sites. And from our map research going down around chicago doesn't seem to shave many miles off compared to going north around the lake. Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 19, 2008 Report Posted June 19, 2008 While vacationing a few years back Lisa and I were driving along lake Michigan north of Chicago when we saw signs for the lake express ferry. We drove down to the dock, paid our money, they drove our car on board, and we hit the water not having planned any of this. Talking with others on the boat they told us they had reservations for months planning on this trip across lake Michigan. When we hit shore our car was the first one off as we were the last one on. It was a fun trip. Several years ago before I was married I ventured out on a motorcycle trip from Ohio to visit a friend on Mackinac Island. I had stopped at a roadside park just south of the island and was adjusting the drivechain on my motorcycle when another motorcycle pulled up. The rider got off and as soon as the helmet was removed I observed this long blond hair and realized this rider was not the guy I first thought it was. Long story short the visit to see my friend was a short one and the blond and I spent the next 4 days riding around lake Huron to Toronto and then Detroit. The scenery was terrific. Wish I could remember her name. Quote
JohnS48plm Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 When we went to the 2000 POC meet in Rapid City, SD we met 4 Plymouths from the east coast at the ferry in Ludington MI. We took the ferry to WI then drove to SD. I plan on being at the Detroit meet on thursday after noon, I'll be ready to tailgate. JohnS Quote
1949P17BC Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 Tailgaters Unite, Rumor has it that Earl is going to brig a dish, but refuses to be seen near anything with more than one carb! We need to surround the place. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Looks like my work schedule will allow me (and possibly Lisa) to attend. Where is everyone staying and when are you arriving etc??? Quote
Young Ed Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 We are staying at the host hotel. Should be arriving Wed 7/30 probably late afternoon. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 I have booked a room at the host Hotel (Marriott Pontiac). We will be arriving Thursday July 31 and will head home on Sunday morning. Quote
greg g Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Still Thinking..................... Who else other than the usual suspects is traveling???? Quote
40phil41 Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 Doesn't look like I'll make it to Detroit Too many family commitments. Phil Quote
1949P17BC Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 I am driving from St. Louis, leaving Sunday am, should arrive by Midday on Monday, combinging work and the meet so I will be at the Hotel all week. Leaving sunday for Chicago more work and back the next weekend. As we speak, I am having a new dirve shaft built, its the last piece to be reworked. Quote
Mr. Belvedere Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 It would be cheaper to buy a house in Detroit than a hotel stay. Found a bunch listed on realestate.com for under $100 dollars! Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 In a sudden unexpected and unexplained burst of energy I completed preping my car this morning for the trip. Oil,filter changed, a shot of grease, and kicked the tires. Still need to give the windows the rain-X treatment. I will now be saving my lunch money for a couple of weeks so I can afford a tank or two of gasolene. The gasolene to get there and back will cost more than the hotel. Quote
