knighthawk Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 well, I am learning more everyday ! This should be called the ''educational '' channel or thread ! I always just assummed Cananda was Cananda, never thought about it having that much variation in weather . I'm glad I ( we ) got to meet you guys from ''up North'' to show us the facts ......................14 degree windchill here this morning. Quote
knighthawk Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 good morning Cananda ! ......... I hope you are getting some of this nice weather ! Maybe getting close to 70 today here , After serviving (?) that long cold winter, you guys desirve some !! Quote
RobertKB Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Knighthawk, it was about 60F here today and the last of the snow has just about disappeared except where it drifted. Roads were dry so I got the old D25 out of the garage and went for a nice gentle cruise. It's good to get some heat in the old flathead! Supposed to cool off a bit but not bad and no snow in the immediate forecast. Hopefully we get an early spring! Quote
greg g Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Yesterday's high was a new low for March. Supposed to be in the 50's on the weekend. Gotta luv March. After basically no snow through the middle of January, we are now above average 115 vs 109. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 Chilly here tonight, I had to close the front door. They say it will be 90 (F) this weekend. Pretty soon I'll be longing for the California winter again. I hope the nice weather lasts for the Santa Anita show on the 18th. My favorite snow country plant was the crocus. Those little things would poke up just as the last snow melted off, and were the first thing to flower, with a nice little bright purple bud. When the crocus came up, you knew it was just about springtime. Quote

Worked in the garage most of the day with the big door open and in shirtsleeves:D Supposed to last til Monday!!! Quote
knighthawk Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 60's here today.......Afew post back ''Dutchedwards'' from the Netherlands asked if this was a unusually cold winter. I said I think it was normal. A man I talked to from here, said it was the coldest here since '55 ! What do you guys think ???? Quote
Young Ed Posted March 8, 2007 Report Posted March 8, 2007 I think its time for this thread to die along with winter! Quote
RobertKB Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Not just yet! Winter ain't over until it's spring or there's no snow on the ground or I can take one of my cars out anytime I want! Maybe then the thread will die. Personally, I love it! Quote
Dodgefran Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 It was 10 degrees this morning when I let the dogs out. New England is in a world of it's own in winter Quote
55 Fargo Posted March 10, 2007 Author Report Posted March 10, 2007 This thread ain't over til Manitoba declares winter is over and it's time to start motoring, this will be in the first week in July, and we can start this thread over again in August ,hehehehe. Now seriously, my intention in starting this thread was to send greetings to you southern boys, to show you what we endure here in Manitoba Canada in winter, not that some or a lot of you guys don't also endure the harsh winter weather that we do here in Manitoba. Hopefully we can start to have spring real soon, in about 2 to 4 weeks, it is going to be in the 40s on the weekend and Monday were looking for a daytime high of 50, today it was 35. In Manitoba the guys get the classic cars and bikes out about mid April, but the real nice weather starts in May. I am as surprised as some of you are, that this thread has gone as long as it did, for me it kind of helped endure a long Canadian and USA winter, I hope it didn't annoy anyone, it was all in fun. I won't start a "Summer Is Here In Manitoba", as you southern boys have much hotter and longer summers than we do, maybe Dennis Hemmingway in the Desert of California can do that. I hope you can survive without this thread Larry ( Knighthawk), it was nice having yours and others contribution to this OT thread.......Rockwood Quote
Normspeed Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 I've really enjoyed reading along. Truly LOL a lot of times. Quote
Young Ed Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Ok so winter wasn't quite over. We got almost 2ft of snow a week ago. Here's what one of my neighbors did to have a little fun! Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 That's one hell of a snow man. I'm guessing it was carved out of one pile of snow? I doubt that someone lifted those upper snowballs up there. Quote
greg g Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Hey Canadians, stupid question.....Do you folks do the Daylight savings time thing???? Are you changing this weekend like we are down here??? What about the rest of the World?? I know this was Ben Franklin's idea to give farmers more productive time but did it catch on Globally? Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 March 10th--- Mid 60s daytime, mid 40s at night. No snow in the forecast--thank goodness. Here in southwest MO area. Rained just a little last night. Grass starting to get green again. Which, of course, gets to the part about needing a new one of these....got this Troy Bilt job on sale at Lowes. The Mrs wanted an electric start since she uses it more than me.....so that's what we got. Never have had one, so will see how well it works. Quote
1just4don Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Bob T, Biggest prob with that machine,,,it doesnt have a seat on it,,,and no headlights to finish after dark since you have such a large yard. LOL-d- Quote
PatS.... Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 Greg, you guys down south are just TOOOO big for us to ignore the DST thing. It would make things really difficult for us and for alot of you crossing the border and doing business cross-border. We are changing our clocks here this weekend too. Except for the Province of Saskatchewan. They have always stuck to standard time, so they won't be changing. I don't mind DST a bit early. It's a sure sign spring is near. As for saving fuel...who knows. Quote
knighthawk Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 This thread has had almost 5000 people reading it and long as it keeps getting entrys, I don't see why there should be any thought of quitting it ! I could see if no one read or made any postings. Where else can you get almost instant information on any subject, any where ?........ It's been in 70's here in Kansas last couple days, WOW ! what a diifference ! Quote
D25_Steve Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Yes, unfortunately because the US changed their DST, Canada reluctantly agreed to do the same, to stop cross-border confusion. Quote
RobertKB Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Yes, we spring ahead and fall back at the same time you guys do. As mentioned too much confusion otherwise. On the same topic, saving energy, how many of you guys have started using florescent bulbs instead of incandescent. I have about ten in use at present and now that new styles are coming out and some are going to be dimmable I figure I will change the entire house over in the next year. My garage has had fluourescents from when I built it in 1986. Flourescents use a lot less power although they are more expensive initially but I see the cost is starting to drop. Australia is going to ban incandescents by 2010 and there are rumblings in Canada about doing the same. As flourescents use about 20% the power of normal bulbs it will make a big difference. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 I like flourescents in garage and shop areas. Haven't come around to using them in the house. A lot of the hotels I've stayed in recently were changed over from incandescent. I think the bulk of my energy use is in home laundry, electronics and that electric blanket in the dog house. Quote
RobertKB Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Norm, why do you spend so much time in the dog house that you need an electric blanket? I know I will be sleeping in our dog house if I bring another project home. However.......... LOL Quote
Normspeed Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 One of the advantages of the bachelor life is, only the dogs sleep in the dog house! And no matter how late you stumble home, your dog is always still happy to see you. Quote
knighthawk Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 I got flourescents in the garage and shop.My shop is an old horse barn I rstored and remodeled in to a car barn. All flourescents in the work area, office and parts (feed ) room, a pull chain in the hay loft and one in the grainery and chicken coop, just for nostalgia, guess i could put the little flourencents in them. House.....I don't know whats in the house.........some of each, I think Quote
