Sniper Posted December 24, 2024 Author Report Posted December 24, 2024 Well I pulled the trigger. Got me a supercharged XF. 35,000 miles. If you see an old fool flying down the highway with a stupid grin on his face it's probably me. 2 Quote

I didn't know they had different spellings based on number of wheels. Whatever the case, F both the cars and the bikes. The cars look like beavers these days (the animal).... Quote
Sniper Posted January 11 Author Report Posted January 11 You know, having driven a few turbo cars over the years, 89 Plymouth minivan, 22 Silverado and a 15 BMW 535i, I love the supercharger. Holy cow, talk about right now acceleration. Now I really know what they mean by turbo lag. Of course, there is the old saying that if you have turbo lag you aren't driving it right. Gonna have to get my HP fix Quote

Sniper Posted January 15 Author Report Posted January 15 You guys realize I also own a beamer and that's how I pronounce it and I don't care what the hoity-toity types have to say about it. 1 2 Quote
John-T-53 Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 Upgrade to a Porsche and avoid the spelling and pronunciation kerfuffle! 😂 Let's face it, a 911 is every BMW guy's ultimate goal, haha. Quote

Ulu Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 It’s kind of funny, but now that I’m old and I can actually afford fast cars and motorcycles, I just don’t want to race around anymore. I don’t want to be in a hurry. I want to be leisurely and take my own sweet time about everything, including driving. Where in my youth it was a luxury to have a hopped up V-8 and go fast, now it’s a luxury to take it easy. 2 Quote
Sniper Posted February 1 Author Report Posted February 1 I feel the need, the need for speed. Sorry I'll always be a lead foot. I put about 50k miles a year on the work truck, company owned, GPS tracked, so I abide. But when I am in my own ride it's A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust, and a hearty "Hi-yo, Silver, away!" Now I need to practice the best launch techniques, lol. 3 Quote
Ulu Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 Perhaps, we’ll start a small bail fund for your eventual incarceration. BTW, I never got locked up for my driving, but let’s just say that I am lucky to have just survived the hot rod antics of my youth. 1 2 Quote
oldodge41 Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 I have been window shopping. Looking for what I would call a Personal Luxury, Sport Oriented ride. I know better, but can't seem to stop myself anyway. Obviously no sense asking for an intervention here, I see how that works out. LOL! I like some of the Genisis models, but like everything here in nowhere land, the closest dealer is 95 miles away. Locally, within 40 or 50 miles, I have BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Audi, Cadillac and maybe a few others. Don't know if I'll buy anything but window, I mean internet, shopping is fun. I blame it all on @Sniper, sorry, but the missus wants to know who I get these crazy ideas from, and its your turn. LOL! Quote

Sniper Posted March 4 Author Report Posted March 4 Well I put over 2,000 miles on the Jag in the first 2 months of this year. All I have to say is woohoo. I've got two issues to fix on it and then it's time for a tune. One issue is that my windshield washer fluid reservoir would go empty very fast within 3 days and me not even really using it. The other issue is I have a headlight fault on the left front headlight well I guess I'm redundant there saying front headlight lol. So last week, my son and I looked at it and we determined that I need to replace the left headlight, you'll note I did not say front headlight. Very spendy since it's LED. Even the junkyard ones are spendy and no guarantee there. I found a place that sold refurbished ones for about $350 but they're out of stock. So we manually adjusted the vertical setup so that it shines down the road properly but what doesn't work is the Adaptive part where the headlight turns the same direction as your steering wheel. I can live without that for now. The washer issue ended up being the headlight washer on the left side is broken so when you hit the squirters it's supposed to pop out and spray the headlights well what happens is fluid goes down that line you turn the pump off and it's siphons the fluid out of the reservoir until it's empty. So we pulled the line and capped it off with a bolt in a couple of zip ties for now. It's my first car with headlight washers so it's not like I need it. I'll end up seeing how much that's going to cost me for parts and then we'll replace it ourselves. I got a couple of other things I need to address some missing bolts nothing serious. Then it's time for some hot rod parts and pump it up to about 480 horsepower. Sad part is that will be cheaper than replacing the headlight. Assuming I have to buy a new one from Jaguar who seems to be the only people to have one in stock. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 one of the most hated words to me.....proprietary Quote

But technology is gone overboard I don't need my headlights to steer. I did put LED headlights on my 51 but it didn't cost nearly as much as they want for the Jag ones. Heck it was less than one refurbished one Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 4 Report Posted March 4 I guess it is the carry over dinosaur gene that is common still my generation, but I see majority of the stuff on cars today dumb down drivers that allow them to focus on a warning beep instead of their own driving skills being honed by being attentive to all conditions. Bells and whistles should stay with the clowns at the 3 ring circus...typically not center ring either. Some features are nice...but as I mention, many now growing fully dependent on them. Back in the old days only one distraction, the carrot hanging in front of the mule's nose. Quote

Back in the old days only one distraction, the carrot hanging in front of the mule's nose. My wife and I discuss this alot. IMO driving skill have gone out the window. I literally see potential accidents every time I go back into the CIty. People just move where they want waiting for that beep or light flash and when distracted....well, they just go there. Last week I was driving and a newer model BMW was next to me and just started to pull over into my lane...I saw the light on the mirror in her car, but she was too busy talking and just went for it. No look, no nothing. Then GLARES at ME as I brake and lay in the horn (when she finally looks). Much less the ads I see now for parking assist, pulling FORWARD into a spot....I just shake my head, how can you not know how far to pull into a parkign spot? Programming the newer car owners for comptures to do it all. 1 Quote
