Dan Hiebert Posted November 28 Report Posted November 28 (edited) Thank you, kind Sir, for kicking off the thread! And Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, however you may observe the occasion! Wife has started cooking, so I'm banished from the kitchen except to retrieve the occasional cup-o-joe (no back-story there, that's just how she prefers it). The dog has been taken out for her morning "patrol", nice crisp day out, although we're expecting that winter storm that the media has been touting this afternoon. We've done too much back and forth to NJ recently and are kind of tired of people, so it's just us this year. Edited November 28 by Dan Hiebert 1 Quote
cheesy Posted November 28 Report Posted November 28 Happy Thanksgiving guys. As we are an hour behind beautiful Maine, we have just started moving about. I still have a second cuppa waiting for me, then a light solo breakfast and a quick walk of Buster dog while she who must be obeyed gets things going. I'll then be spending my time messing with an over torqued and damaged lug nut on my pickup until dinner time. It's also just us and the dog this year. We need to steel ourselves for the upcoming Christmas holidays as we are hosting the Mainer branch of the family this year. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 28 Report Posted November 28 awoke early this morning to a downpour of rain...combined driving of 10.5 hours yesterday to travel to the military academy the grandson attends, he got his ring in ceremony and then the parade and he is with me for 5 weeks winter break. Is good, not seen the lad for many years as they lived in the UK and then the left coast. Mums is already busy in the kitchen, I like Dan, am sipping fresh pot of coffee and likely will start the build of a military shadow box for my deceased brother in law, got the last items day before yesterday. Be good to get the layout completed. So a wonderful Thanksgiving to all here....and Happy Birthday to ME! Quote
Eneto-55 Posted November 28 Report Posted November 28 Light snow here in Holmes County Ohio. Too warm to stick, however. Our entire family will be with us for Dinner, at noon. (Where I come from - Oklahoma - the big meal of the day is called 'Dinner' regardless of whether it is at Noon, or in the evening. So if it's at Noon, then the evening meal - if there is one - is called 'Supper', and if it is in the evening, then the Noon meal is called 'Lunch'.) Anyway, it'll be all of us, but that ain't a lot. Only our daughter is married, and they have 4 boys, 10, 3, and twins at around 19 or 20 months. Our two sons are still holding out for the perfect match, I guess. (36 & 31.) Thankful to God for the family He's given us. Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 28 Report Posted November 28 I'm thankful for my wife of 60 years, and our children and grandchildren. Riddle: Our younger son is older than our older daughter. How many children do we have, and in what order? We have seven grandchildren; three of them married, but no word yet of a great-grandchild yet. All of them college graduates, except of the youngest, a Purdue freshmen who is spoiling the curve for everyone else. Then there's Benny- A few years ago, I was in the back yard when my wife came out with the phone: (You'll have to talk to your grandfather.") "Grampa, I didn't have that much to drink .. under arrest . . . send money . . . copy this case number down!" (Classic scam.) "Bennie, I'm outside. I'll have to get a pen." (More sorry tale. Finally:) "Benny, you rotten kid! You deserve to rot in jail! You've caused your parents nothing but grief!". Then he hung up on me! Despite all the crap, life is sweet! Quote
Los_Control Posted November 28 Report Posted November 28 Having a great day here and wish all a great day. I woke up at 7:00 am and went in to get a cup of coffee ... Momma just pulled a loaf of banana bread from the oven .... how awesome is that 1 Quote
Ulu Posted November 29 Report Posted November 29 I barbecued some nice ribeye steaks this year instead of cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving. They were pretty awesome. The girls whipped up some roast vegetables and mashed potatoes. My sister made some fancy pie covered with whip cream and caramelized nuts. We watched Macy’s parade, listened to Vivaldi during dinner instead of talking about politics and the wars, and we watched the big dog show. My dog always barks at the show dogs on the TV. He enjoys the dog show just as much as I do. Quote
