Fuel Pump block-off plate

[1951 Dodge Dump]

  Want to install an electric fuel pump and I am looking for a plate to block off the mechanical fuel pump opening.  Do not know for sure which motor I have in my 51 Dodge 2 ton dump truck.  Do all 6 cylinder truck engines use the same mechanical fuel pump?  How can I know for sure what size motor I have?

Block off plates are easy to make using the old pump or pump gasket to make a pattern.   Scrap piece of plate steel or aluminum, marker, cutoff wheel or hacksaw, grinder or file, drill and bit ,

do a search and you will find a decoder for the serial number on your block. this has been asked millions of time.

+1 just make one up, do not even have to cut the corners, it can just be a square metal piece with a gasket and 2 holes. Or, if you want to keep things looking original, just take the insides of the old pump out and use it to bypass your fuel line.

   Google “t137 engines” and it will tell you how to use the engine number and the model designation on your drivers door data plate. To narrow it down when there are two engine sizes, you need to remove the 1/8” pipe plug over number 6 cylinder, and measure the stroke. 4.250”-237, 4.500”-251, 4.766”-265c.i. The Chrysler flathead six fuel pump has a staggered bolt pattern.

just pull the pump, use the gasket as a template, cut a plate out of aluminum or steel, your call, drill the holes, make a new gasket and close off the holes...you done...nothing at all hard about this....take it to the buffer and put a high gloss shine on it...you may find one at the BBS but I am not sure of the pattern matching the SBC that is normally stocked...take your gasket and again, do a match.

Some people like to wrench, some - just drive ancient cars without much mechanical engagement 😅

You should've totally painted it the silver block color and used a flat head screw with a non-Phillips groove 😉
