desoto1939 Posted November 23, 2023 Report Posted November 23, 2023 Thanksgiving has finally arrived. want to wish everyone and their families and extended families and friend a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday. If you are driving to celebrate please drive safe. Today is the time to cherish the time with loved ones and also to remember any friends and family that have departed. Always remember the good times because they out trump the bad times. Today near valley forge park which is basically in my back yard is where General Washington and his troops spent the winter months protecting our future country to insure that we all currently has the rights and freedom that so many other countries do not grant to their citizens. When you give thanks at the dinner table this evening also remember these brave soldiers that help win our freedom from England and also our current soldiers that we have stationed in other countries. Now the hectic season is upon us with all of the purchasing of those special Xmas presents, baking cookies, decorating the house, cutting down the xmas tree or just putting the fake one and then trimming it out with the lights and the garland. oldodge41 Posted November 23, 2023 Report Posted November 23, 2023 I agree with everything you said Rich. Except the part about Thanksgiving finally being here. Seems like yesterday was Independence Day, LOL! It has been a whirlwind year here. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Happy Thanksgiving to all of our P15-D24 friends. 2 Quote
Ulu Posted November 23, 2023 Report Posted November 23, 2023 After 33 years (in which 32 out of 33 we cooked Thanksgiving dinner for the whole family) We are having dinner alone this year. My children have moved to other towns, and most of my grandchildren have grown up, and they’re moving about, and some getting married! My wife is recovering from surgery so we’re not going to travel. I’m gonna take it easy this year, which makes it a real holiday for me. A happy holiday to you all! Quote
Los_Control Posted November 23, 2023 Report Posted November 23, 2023 I have a BIL in a hospital. He rode a bus 3 days from Washington to Texas to hang out for the winter. Been here since the 4th of the month. He has been in the hospital for the last 4 days dying. They found tumors on his brain .... transferred him 75 miles away to a larger hospital. Opened his skull and found the brain covered in fungus and closed him up. He is on a heroin drip to control his critical blood pressure. He is confused and combatant .... wants to walk out of ICU naked with a hole in his head so he is strapped in restraints to the bed. Serious hallucinations ... This Dude is really messed up. Hepatitis C, Type 1 diabetic, high blood pressure, fungus, tumors ..... If one does not kill him the other three will. I think it is sad that he burned all his bridges at home and nobody wanted to help him. ..... Go to Texas and see your sister. He has a father, sister, 2 brothers, his daughter, 2 cousins .... all wanting to get the latest updates on his health ..... We cant do the 150 mile drive everyday to go see a guy tied to a bed sleeping. .... It is $35 each trip for gas, 3 times last week, we will go again tomorrow. On a fixed income we simply cant afford it and our bodies do not allow it. Sure gives me a lot to think about and be thankful for. Being married for 40 years, her brother made many bad life choices 40 years ago ... lived life the way he wanted to. Now he is paying for it. Just makes me think how thankful I am to have made the life choices I have. Everybody will die, fact of life. ..... Seems the older we get, the more we see of it. Sorry for my rant ... I am not really sad at all .... just thoughtful of life. Wife and I have been very chatty while both kicking in efforts for our dinner ... Having a great time. I'm going to enjoy a nice quiet turkey dinner today .... jump back on the 150 mile merry go round tomorrow. Quote
kencombs Posted November 24, 2023 Report Posted November 24, 2023 Thanksgiving is almost over and I'm tired and way to full of food. But, really enjoyed kids, grandkids and greats! I really am thankful for the way things turned out for me and mine. But, like a lot of folks I often forget those who came before, thanks for reminding me. Quote
