Bingster Posted August 21, 2022 Report Posted August 21, 2022 Every time I get a new battery to start the car, something happens, it sits and goes dead. This time I will start it. I think I got it at one of those tractor stores. Quote
JBNeal Posted August 21, 2022 Report Posted August 21, 2022 Group 1 batteries could be had for $50 in 2007...they were $75 in 2017...now they are $105...not much competition on these low demand lead cells, maybe an online coupon can be had for 10% off somewhere local to ya. Quote
rallyace Posted August 21, 2022 Report Posted August 21, 2022 I got my battery at Tractor Supply 4 years ago and it still works great. Things I do include removing the battery when I store the car and placing it on a battery tender for the winter and I take the time every spring to clean all of the high current draw connections (battery, starter solenoid, starter and engine block to battery ground) as part of my annual 'bring it out of hibernation' routine. I also added an 8 gauge ground from the body to the battery positive connection to assure I had a good secondary body ground for lights and accessories. 1 Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 22, 2022 Report Posted August 22, 2022 If a brand new battery is left to sit idle yes it will go dead and discharge. So as suggested get a trickle chrager to keep the battery fully charged at all times or really wait until you can install the battery and then start the car on a regular basis. Plymouthy Adams Posted August 22, 2022 Report Posted August 22, 2022 suggest if looking at conventional wet cell.....look to a group 2 battery Quote
Bryan G Posted August 22, 2022 Report Posted August 22, 2022 NAPA is often holding a "bucket sale" (buy a 5 gallon bucket and anything that will fit inside is some percentage off.) Their rewards program is also pretty decent. I think you'd get $5 your next purchase given the cost of a battery. Wish my local NAPA store had it's act together... There is a local chain that specializes in alternators/starters and they are very competitive on price. Something to keep in mind: from the photos I've seen of various brands of traditional 6v batteries, they all look to use the same case with a different label pasted on. It is very possible they are all made by the same company these days. Shop by price. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted August 22, 2022 Report Posted August 22, 2022 Rural King has a group 1 for around $60.00 Quote
Bingster Posted August 22, 2022 Author Report Posted August 22, 2022 I wish we had one in Iowa. Quote

Sniper Posted August 23, 2022 Report Posted August 23, 2022 Tractor Supply has them, not sure if it's a deal or not. Napa has them too, a bit more than TS. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/traveller-1-6v-heavy-duty-battery Quote
Bingster Posted August 24, 2022 Author Report Posted August 24, 2022 Thanks for the tip-off about Theisens. Unfortunately, they are about three hours away and the gas would nullify the $70 purchase price. I'll end up going to O'Reillys for $110.00 Quote
